Having watched this, I was able to repair my Dad’s Teac today. He had been without it for 3 years. The smile that hit his face when he heard it play again was priceless. I cannot thank you enough.
Thanks so much. Just about to go down and give this a go. When I opened up the back i too found the burned out husk of old belt. And you answered my second question there at the end with the timing belt reference. Hopefully that’s easy to install if need be
Just replaced belts as per your excellent demonstration--went well. Thanks. Now can't get the pinch roller to engage. It moves very sluggishly. Is this a typical problem? I'm reluctant to remove that yoke that pretty much holds all the tape-moving and -lifting mechanisms.
How hard was to change the counter belt? i haven't figured out that one yet. I don't want to change the brake settings by accident. Excellent video very interesting and informative.
I have read that they recommend to change the rifa caps because they can leak and explode and could damage other parts they are .01uf 400v so i will eventually will be changing those in the near future. There are not that many of those. Hope this helps you out. Cheers
I bought a Teac A-1500 like yours today and removed it from the case because i wanted to do a thorough cleaning, lube and inspection. And found that i need a new capstan belt and was trying to figure out how to install the new one, I most definitely did not want to remove the head assembly and when i looked in the back the obvious way was that hole in the back. What i want to know is..Does the actuating lever for the pinch roller that sits underneath the capstan does not get in the way of the installation of the belt? Mine is in really good condition! the pinch roller is good and soft and the heads are like new! so all i need is the belt. I am debating if i should change the counter belt, it still works.
Nice find!. I had a Counter Belt in the kit that came with it. The old one was working but looser than the newer one so, I changed it while I had it apart. I can't remember the exact steps but I do remember it being easy with the tools at hand.
Well I changed the capstan belt and the counter belt. It was not to hard, it took me 1/2 an hour to do both, not counting the removal of the case and faceplate. At first I had installed the capstan belt in the wrong pulleys I had it on for 50hz operation so I had to move the belt into the proper areas. I also found out that the left reel table was out of adjustment and had to adjust it. Now I need to troubleshoot why the VU meters are not moving when I have a tape playing and also the volume control output is not working.
Cool! Sound like you are close to 100%! I have a couple of caps that need to be replaces at some point but I'm just enjoying using it for the moments. Even with the extra hiss!😆
@@tapeexperiments Today I am going to test the record function. I found out that when you plug in headphones it neutralizes the VU meters in play mode so maybe it was designed to do that, is it the same case with yours? I also played a couple of different tapes and verified that the levels on the channels are correct. Now I only need to find out why I can't control the output. Keep enjoying yours👍
Hey very good, have a 4010 and was going to do and i think i can do it this way. was going to try the hard way but confidence in high for now, i'll let you know!!

Thanks so much!!! I have a A-1200U model and it has the same layout. You saved me a ton of aggravation and time!
Great to hear- thanks for letting me know. 🔊
I opened up my A 1500 a few days ago, and found several chunks of the belt. I ordered a new main belt and counter belt a few days ago from eBay.
This really worked quite well. A real time saver. Thanks!
Glad to hear that! Thank you for letting me know at work for you.
Thanks for the helpful video.👍
You are welcome! Happy New Year!
Very helpful!

I think I had the Sluggish Pinch Roller also. I Lubed it.

See above but If you have not already changed it, I think you'll find it easy. Are you going post a video of the 1500?🙂
@@tapeexperiments Sorry I don't know how to post videos
