Thanks for watching! What’s your go-to technique for running steep trail stairs? Have you tried any of the strategies I shared? I’d love to hear your thoughts or tips in the comments. Let’s help each other become stronger, safer, and more efficient on the trails this year! And if you’re finding value in this content, don’t forget to like and subscribe. See you out there!

Scott, great video as always! You get 100 points on this one and I agree with all your comments. Now, there are a couple of things you might want to elaborate on. I think you could do a new video which combines two of your techniques in more detail. First, is your comments on leaving one foot planted a little longer. To many of us skiers here, it has the same effect of rotating the hips while skiing. So, this rotation buys you two things. One, your forward momentum is slightly askewed (?) so if calamity happens your not going crash directly downhill. The second is that (as you might imagine) we are now crossing the slope (or the trail) which allows us to add in that extra half-step. Second, is your "hop and pop". I use this all the time and love it. If you are still feeling strong a little "hop" with the rotation mentioned above and picking a specific trail feature (suitable flatish rock) AND LIMITING the downward vector, you can bring your forward momentum to a standstill- giving you time to plan your next section. Nothing better than screaming downhill, taking a breath before continuing on. Thanks for your efforts in putting the effort into promoting the next gen of trail runners.

Ed, great to hear from you, and thank you so much for adding this perspective. It's also interesting to think about the overlapping of techniques in different sports. I also think about that quite a bit as well. Love it!

Scott - great tips and techniques for downhill stairs. Here are a few things I also find helpful:
      - similar to a previous video on looking for the space between obstacles, I try and look 3 to 5 steps ahead and plan out where my feet are going to go. I find this is like mountain biking or whitewater kayaking, look at your route before getting distracted by the obstacles.
      - be “light” on your feet to try and move quickly between steps. This goes with using midsole strike and leaning forward. Less impact and allows for easier correction if one step is not as accurate as you’d like.
      - be young and take chances! Haha

Could have been useful if your cameraman captured your feet while talking about the foot strike

I couldn't agree more! I will fire them immediately. Actually, there was no cameraman and I was using face tracking, which obviously wasn't ideal here. I should have moved the camera back a bit. Anyway, I went with the video I had rather than the one I wish I had. I hope you understand and still found value in the video. Thanks for watching.
