It’s been over 1 year since Matt and Rabea have done a “Sound Like” video. If anyone else misses that series like I do, could you upvote this so maybe they’ll start doing them again? It was a great series.
I think they said in previous comments it was only covid/lockdown that made it difficult to get the team together. They'll be back, they haven't gone for good.
Totally agree I'd like to see sound like Steve vai without busting
Totally agree, I miss them. Matt live streams on Twitch once a week if you want to here him chat music.
@@PaulCooksStuff but they’ve been making other videos for over a year lol.
@@josephharrison7914 We need a sound like Prince series.
One of the best things about these videos is seeing The Captain’s improvement as a player. Arguably he was the more melodic in the jam at the end. I very much enjoy listening along.
He played great👍
Pete is goat, stop
Dang.Playing next to Pete has taken the Captain to new levels. Pete looking on like the proudest father.
That end jam. Magic was happening. Pete properly vibing out with Captain's lead. Awesome stuff
If only every guitarist could afford one😅
@@KevinJDildonik False. US labour has nothing to do with it. Heritage guitars cost less than half the price. You're paying for Brand recognition and corporate bailouts. The average builder at Gibson gets paid less than fender and PRS builders
@@KevinJDildonik yes indeed.
@@TheJamison76 idk where your prices came from. Heritage and Gibson standards are both right around $3k
@@beng808 this video is referring to the Murphy series which starts at £5800. Heritage is £2800.
@@robotsongs not false. The quality you get from heritage is the same as custom shop and Murphy range. Whilst the current standard range from Gibson still come with many QC problems.
It's a first video I've watched in a while, and goddamn, Lee's playing is SO GOOD
Lee's playing in that outro jam is the best I've ever heard him hit it. Melodic and sublime. How did he resist buying that guitar?!
Oh guys! .. that closing jam! So good. Lee, I continue to be so impressed with the player you've become.
Tis’ the dream… Seeing the 335 in ‘Back to the Future’ as a little kid is what made me want to pick up the guitar in the first place. As I’ve gotten older I recognize them for their sound and beauty too, but there will always be a part of me that loves the 335 because of that first emotional connection with a guitar.
Seconded
Pedant alert. It was a 1958 ES-345 borrowed from Norm Harris in a scene set in 1955. Very back to the future!
Man Lee your setup sounded perfect on the end jam! The tones you were getting along with the delay was superb!
What fantastic timing. I literally have an ES-335 on a UPS truck, about ten minutes away from me. I should wait to watch this, so i can play along.....
Enjoy it. 👍😊
@@jimshomestudio4669 Thank you, sir. I hope i'm not too afraid to play (ding) it. It'll be my most expensive guitar, easily, and it's not even something i ever thought i'd want. After 'having' guitars for 40 years, it took a recent *Dave Simpson* video to send me 'shopping.'
That outro! Sublime. The last minute or so with the improvised twin guitar harmonies is something quite special.
That closing jam is the best I’ve heard yet guys!
I am now addicted to Lee and Pete videos. Also addicted to my 2019 dot neck 335. Your jams are inspiring guys, keep them comming !
the jam you play together are always fantastic!
Feeling like i love.
YES - every guitarist need an ES-335 - or an ES-335 style guitar. Only my opinion, because I always wanted one as much as I want a Les Paul.
NOW I get my Gibson ES-335 Dot Reissue in Sunburst and the pair is complete now - it´s not Murphy-aged but "natural-aged", because its from 1986 and often played!
Great sound with Tim Shaw-PUs! Love it!
Bluesy greetings from Germany!
Those jams just keep on getting better and better !
It's been a minute since I could stop by and watch a fresh video.
I've missed you guys!
My wife got me a custom shop ES-355 for my 30th birthday. It’s a beautiful work of art, but nowhere near as pretty as she is. I landed such an awesome woman 😍.
Did she pay for it? Lol
The ES-335 is an awesome guitar that is more versatile then people think. I just wish they weren’t so damn expensive! That’s why I own an Ibanez ASV-73, similar tone and feel at a fraction of the price. 🤘
They are expensive, but they are well worth the price. I currently own 25 guitars, and would put my 335 up against any or all of them. They are so versatile, and a joy to play. Many from a certain generation feel that the only 2 rock guitars in the world are a Fender Strat or a Gibson Les Paul (both also expensive), and don't consider a semi-hollow body as even being a contender. The 335 will prove them wrong all day long.
i really like where lee's head is at when playing guitar, very tasteful and you can just see moments of inspiration
Maybe Gibson should make their normal overly expensive 335's good enough (this goes for the other models too) to justify the price in the first place, instead of having to invent 'Murphy lab' editions to create the quality expected from the get go, and charge even more.
The normal 335 is a good guitar, no need to spend 7000€ on a 335, even the satin ones are cool
I bought myself one of those German 335 imitations that we don't talk about here on this channel and WOW! What a fantastic guitar for very little money.
Is Gibson the type of company that solves product issues at a premium?
I have to agree. The quality to price ratio for Gibson USA guitars is way off considering how inconsistent their QC is. Yes, you can get a great Gibson, but you're going to have to play a few to get a good one; I would never buy one sight unseen. For around the same money, you can get a PRS Core model which are consistently great. Gibson needs to take note of what they're doing in Maryland and up their QC game to justify their prices.
Buy used and wait until one pops up at a price you're okay with
Thinking out loud - I’d love one of these
Think we all would... One day we will get there!
The solo Lee plays in the end jam is 👌 nice and slow but with lots of emotion. Hats off 🙌
Nice to see Lee really enjoying that outro jam
Nice jam at the end guys! Cool melodies!
Awesome sound . those 335's are dream guitars .
Great Jam guys
Good video. Lovely guitars. The good thing about guitars that come with dings is that you don't have to worry about dinging them.
Great demo!
Some lovely phrasing and timing from the Captain there.
Wow Lee, now your journey really has begun... nice playing dude!!!
nice feel to your playing Lee
Holy smoke Lee! Your playing was just 👌👌👌 Man that’s CRAZY nice!!
Epic play out gents!
Love the jam session.
My first real guitar was an Ibanez AS83 (335 style) and I love it. I had to get used to the size and shape but now I’m so happy I have such a versatile axe
I don’t think you need to convince us that we need more guitars lol
Great video. Keep up the great work.
I know The Captain is a Strat fan but man!, that 335 was made for you. I've seen hundreds of your demo videos and, by far, this one captured your best inspiration and tone (ever!). Someday I will own a 335
The Captain has come a long way with his playing, Bravo !!!!!
I only played solid body guitars like Fender Strat and Gibson SG and I considered the semi-acoustic good only for historical blues or jazz, but one day I found myself in front of a wonderful 'beauty blue' ES-345 and a friend told me: "this is one of those really nice"... I bought it and since then it makes a difference to the sound and use in my small collection... I don't think it matters what brand you choose but if, you are a guitarist, a semi-acoustic type ES-335 before or then you have to have it.
I tried a 1973 Fender Stat many years ago in Andy’s Guitar Shop in Denmark Street, it looked like it had been used as a Cricket Bat but man what a guitar and sound it had.
Lee your an inspiration, you are easy on the ears ! I would love to play guitar like you do my problem is right now I can only play guitar like I do😬
Man that outer jam is a dream ❤️❤️
Great googly moogly the tones from these are amazing.
nice jam lads!!
Full marks for the opening and ending jam!!!!!
335 are so nice, but so expensive D:
Fortunately Epiphone exists!
Not only epiphones, i think this "you need an es335" means you need a semi hollow double humbucker guitar
@@oskarileikos unfortunately I haven't liked any of the Epiphones I've played. Had a Sheraton II VS for a minute and ended up getting rid of it
@@thesmellycatjazz I had the original cheapest "Dot"-model (that I think they rebranded as proper ES-335. It was a good guitar in almost every single aspect - the sound was nice and thick without being muddy and the neck was comfortable and well finished without any sharp fret ends. The only reason why I had to sell it was because it was so big and heavy that it became really uncomfortable to play and I noticed that I always went for my Yamaha Pacifica instead.
Epiphone ES-339. Extraordinary bang for your guitar buck. And more comfortable to play than a full size 335. Edit corrected ES-339
The captain .... again best tone ever and such a melodic taste on the end Jam.
I started to watch your videos just 2 months ago .. and now I’m watching every time a new one pop up. It’s so much fun and you can feel the good affinity between you two. Plus I do really think the captain is a big heart person, sensitive and humble.
Ps: my first order from Andertons arrived this week ... a black box overdrive 2 ... and I’m already addicted. Such an amazing sound
I love aged and relic'd guitars! But yeah boys; I agree, with everything you've said. Those guitars are so lovely.
The jam at around 22:30 and on is perfect!
Sweet Jam Session 👍👍🎶🎶🎸
So incredibly tasty!! Thank you guys!
Wow the Captain was on fire today! Shredding like his life depended on it. Very nice phrasing!
Found a picture from 1996 with me and my loved 335. Sold it and have wanted another one ever since. Now I’m 61 and have the money to buy a custom shop. That last tune made me descide it. If it will be here in Denmark or from you I don’t know - but it will be cherry again 🥰🥰🥰🥰🔥❤💋 Love youy guys 🌞🤗💋
That outro jam was nuts
Please make a guitar cabinet shootout! It seems the cab is an important ingredient when it comes to overall tone
Quick jam out.. heh :D loved every second!
Had a heritage cherry dot reissue. Got divorced. 335 gone. 😢 One of the very best guitars I’ve ever owned. Sad times. But an amazing guitar. 🤘🏻
Look at the epi 335 inspired review I have one and love it and it's $550 us
that bitch, should have taken it to a friends for safe keeping till the divorce was done. thats what I'd do in that sitch, no way in hell she's getting any of my gear, or money from it.
What a tasty intro jam!
Thanks Oliver! It's always inspiring to play the Gibson Murphy Lab guitars
Man, that butterscotch ES is a beautiful thing to behold.
Nothing sweeter sounding!
13:37 Oh man! I was so hoping that Pete would start playing Killing In The Name.
Every time I think I'd love to get a real 335 I pick up my 2012 Epiphone dot and realize that it will do.
I have an Epi Dot I got for 200 with a set of Iron Gear Alchemist p90s and it sounds pretty good for 270 all in...not a million miles off this video although I'm sure these are prettier and play nicer
Yes agreed , BUT I have a couple of fenders and a custom shop Les Paul ,and recently brought an Epiphone inspired by Gibson es 335 and wow I’m blown away , I think because I never realised how good 335 semi style guitar is , So now I’m wondering what the Real thing would be like , so now I’m wanting to own The Gibson 335 , you only live once 😀
You make me want to buy one !!
I need a 335 for the quiver! Cheers Captain and Pete!!
I have a lovely 345 burst which is the nuts.
Would love it if you guys covered brought out the Gibson Original Collection of ES guitars. I really want to know more about those T-Type pickups.
Sounds nice and warm like a Gibson should
Excellent ☮️
To see just how minute a difference your hand can detect, write with a Bic pen with the lid on the end; then take the lid off of the end of the pen and write the same thing again. Massive difference in feel, balance, weight and action isn’t there?
What an awesome outro! The harmonies sounded amazing!
I agree i need one, however the buying one is my hang up
I couldn't agree more with the premise of this video. Mine looks like the Blonde one, but mine is an 82. I wouldn't trade that guitar for anything. It will do whatever I want it too and if I had to, I'd sell all my others and keep that one.
That outro was delicious
335 my dream guitar, used to play a nice 1961 in my lunch break at work. Cant afford a true one so bought an epi dot
I’ll be honest. I been looking at 335s lately. Now I cannot afford a Murphy Lab but I’m willing to take one off of your hands as a long time follower here in the states lol
this should make a gent happy on instagram mt nice vid love that axe you where playing brill.
"Crazing" is the cracking on a finish
my dream guitar !!!!
5:13 Not heard of "skip out the light" but there's a song called Shoot Out the Lights by Richard Thompson (though the guitar on it is probably a Strat, as RT doesn't do humbuckers).
What backing track are you guys using for the outro? It sounded awesome both you guys were so in the groove and that harmony was beautiful. You could really feel the emotion in both solos very well done! Deff one of my favorite jams right up there with the famous prs ce24 jam from a couple of years ago.
My favourite guitar ever.
I bought my 335 new in 1991. Looks and sounds wonderful and, it hasn't aged in any way the same as these 'manufactured ageing' examples. ie- hardware or wood. Buy a normal one and age it yourself. Far more satisfying. Just bought another new 335 and I doubt I will live long enough to see this one age.
thats crazy, I have a few gibsons and I find that they age rather quickly. A couple years of daily use and they have noticeable wear, but it gives them character, plus the playability and feel get better as they age. I can't stand playing polly guitars now, they feel cheap and plastic like.
@@davepark1827 Mine has aged, very much so, BUT , I looked after it so, so no cracking or worn down to the wood. In fact the neck feels like a new VOS now. Everybody who plays it loves it. I have a 1980 ES175 and that is just starting to show cracking.
Fabulous
I wish you showed how the 335 can rock it out! It was nice that you showed a kind of a bluesy jazz style which supremely sings out, also but these ES-335s can rock,,, With Les Paul's but bit more easier to catch a great "Sustainable feedback, "Sweet Sustains": Great Guitar's & nice video!!!
I sold my 335 when i got a PRS Hollowbody. I feel i made the right choice
I just can't get over the input jack being on the face of the guitar. Don't know why I hate it but I do and it saves me money in this case.
Hoping for a Murphy's Lab Firebird showcase, finger's crossed
I finally just got a 335 with a varitone, already ordered some parts for it
Varitone rocks!
Ok. The final jam was the bomb.
These look and sound great! Let me know when they are on 90% discount hahaha
I gotta have that 59' ES-335 natural finish. It's expensive, but I going to make it a reality.
In 1973 I bought a new 335 TD from my local dealer for $530 US. Lost interest in playing so I sold it for a ridiculously low price in 1991. Looking forward to getting another one soon, just haven’t decided which variation or manufacturer. My only complaint is they could be a little large for many people to use for extended daily practice. But, buying one of these is money in the bank, play it for years and if you have a change of heart and want to sell you won’t loose your money.
Hopefully Mark Agnesi gives me one today if not I’ll just have to wait a few more months and buy it on my own
I think the nitro does make a difference…
But is it big enought to cear 🤔
I personally don’t think so…
BUT I REALLY LOVE THE FEEL!! 😇
I don’t love 3 string to a guitar side much in general.
Much more of a Strat guy.
Make this semi hollow Tele and I might agree with you.
But I need a tummy cut on my T-style guitar too.
Just like the PS5, I can’t seem to ever find these in store. I finally settled for the Epiphone version cause its all I could find.
Nice playing lads lovely guitars and sound so many many guitars around now that sound great and playability great these lab guitars coming at a high cost gibson must be making a fortune yamaha sa is great guitar at half the price
Make a video on the 339! People seem to forget that guitar exists
