Well, that was a bit of a bummer - my sympathies. Surely there exists a special tool for grabbing that stud firmly and yet being able to impact loosen it - but as you say, not impossible to drop the engine on these. 2001 is mine. Valve clearance CHECKING was easy enough - glad they didn't need adjusting yet though.
Lawd, that’s a sickener 😮 Just finished a Y reg gen 1, but discovered during the process (14 mths) that some dogs dangle had fitted a cheap aftermarket starter, the drive shaft was 6mm too long and was milling both itself and the back of the starter clutch, that was fun………not 🤬🤬
