Hi very nice presentation and I really enjoyed it. I have two questions. 1- I do not have any available space for a planer in my garage and I live in Southern California by the beach. I was wondering if I put my planer on a cart with wheels , make a plywood cover for the cart with five sides and put the cover on the top of the cart and in addition put a cover like barbecue cover over it , would it be protected from rust ? 2- Can I run 2X4 vertically through planer ? I would appreciate your input. Thanks.
Thanks for your kind comments. Because you live in area that regularly has "salt air", corrosion can be a problem for many metal parts. Prolonged exposure to marine area air leads to pitting and degradation of many metals, unless they are protected by special coatings or painted on a regular basis. The biggest risk you will have with your planer will be moisture not readily evaporating off because of still, trapped air. There are several anti-corrosion spray products on the market. Find one you like and treat the inner workings of your machine. I would look for a product that doesn't attract dust - it's a woodworking machine after all. Inspect the machine from time to time and treat as needed. And, yes, this planer will allow you to plane a 3-1/2" tall board, as it's total capacity is 6". I hope this helps! Best, DFJ
