Also, as we all recognize the massive imperfections of this system, it is important to also realize that the US and Israeli have been systematically trying to de-legitimize the court in spaces of media and popular opinion for obvious reasons. Maybe it's just my take, but could be that the listing of Hamas members on the requests for arrest warrants was also to uphold a sense of global legitimacy from a broader panorama of different geo-political and state actors. If the US is implicated, somehow the ICC becomes slandered as a kangaroo court, but as soon as its enemies are implicated, the US will rejoice and sing the courts praises.
It appears that it is impossible to extract the truth from the mouth of a lawyer whose job requires manipulating words and being cautious when throwing accusations!! Karim Khan would not be in this position if he had been a regular lawyer!! I do not recall him holding a press conference to announce his request to the judges to issue an arrest warrant against Putin!! But he did so publicly in the case of Israel for two reasons: 1. To show the world that he is not complicit and to place the burden and delay in issuing the arrest warrant on the judges of the court, since remaining silent on the magnitude of these crimes undermines the legitimacy of the circus he heads, called the International Criminal Court, and casts doubt on the usefulness of the existence of such institutions that are spent on millions of dollars from the countries’ tax money!! Second: Announcing such a decision gives an opportunity for international players to intervene and object to it!! Since every time a request for objection is submitted, which is part of the process, this request is studied within a period of at least a month, and then the response is to reject the request or accept it based on the claims of the request and evidence of its credibility! This actually happened, as the European countries committed to Israel’s right to defend itself, led by Germany and Britain, did so with the aim of obstructing the process and deluding the public that the court was carrying out its work with complete transparency!

He should be ashamed of himself as he fails himself, all the people of the world and especially those vulnerable defenseless starving people and the longer he plays for time not to issue the warrants of arrests for monsters - the more a part of the world goes up in smoke. Hi Steve. There is a movement and work within the UN to reform the SC and the abuse of vetoes by UNSC members. It is not given much attention or press and also urgent issues keep on biting, but they have meetings about this from time to time and I guess the time horizon for seeing an actual reform of the system is very long. But many have been aware of this abuse of the veto system and have been working on this in the background for years.

It's a complete failure and crisis of the "rules-based order" itself and that the institutional paradigm of all of this is outdated and inherited from a completely different context, created decades ago, that is now obsolete. This demands that we create new rules and a new order, and probably new institutions too bc the main one is still under the sway of one or more problematic countries that literally destroy life for the rest of us. Not only directly and literally as in Palestine, but slowly and silently in the rest of the world. In the current paradigm I actually see China and Russia as the parties most capable of leveraging any influence of this. Not directly talking about the occupation and genocide in the UNSC but through other indirect measures which implicate and challenge the US through global and bilateral trade, monetary, military and security agreements. Clearly everything is failing and I personally see no hope for results, aside from challenging and breaking the system with its established behavioral/diplomatic/institutional norms, codes and dis/order.
