Interesting story...they have definitely tried harder on social media to stand out and give something to every type of sports fan. SportsNation has the funniest twitter account among the ESPN shows!
I hope you watched the video. The cable companies either don't have the last mile infrastructure for mass 4K or they just haven't figured out their BS pricing for it. it's not ESPN's fault
Yes. Real 3D with accurate depth measurement. The display being AR & VR headset. Crappy 3D where depth was just a rough level for entertainment purposes was just not good enough.
If digital programming is the future of the NFL,MLB,NBA,NHL, it eliminates the purpose of going to the stadium. You wait, sooner or later these leagues will have one studio where every team reports to, and simply broadcast the game from there. If American Gladiators could pull it off, surely all 4 leagues could too.
This was an awesome video. I love how you took a sports network and showed the tech side of it. They are just as worried about the future of tech as they are about the future of sorts. So cool!
What i hate the most is that there's no streaming of local channels in local markets for free or a low flat fee if you want to adapt and get distribution in more hands and more eyes than the way they do it now...They do some streaming in video, but not nearly enough to make difference.
It's laughable that ESPN talks about cord cutting and then shows the Watch ESPN app. You can hardly watch anything with it unless you have a cable subscription!
The insistance on "sideline reporters" blabbering about nothing the least bit interesting - or shoving a mic in some bothered coach's face is so unnecessary.
Every TV network out there is going to have to adapt. no amount of regulation can save the networks now. They will need reform themselves in order to stay relevant. But don't be surprised when a few major companies go to congress whinning and complaining because they are losing profits.
omfg this is basically just like a huge commercial. This does not talk about the future of sports, but what sports are like now: Pretty much just commercials
You can't really say you're adapting to cord cutters if you're still at the mercy of cable companies. Ya you're on Roku and Amazon TV, but I can't watch your trash programming unless I'm a Comcast customer
Verge unsubscribe stop making it out like usa is the only country in the world last video was ok one guy said what I'm saying and how they say we like America for me it is they if its sport you watch espn well here in New Zealand we have it but but sky sports is what everyone watch and no one plays nfl
frank jones I realize this is an old comment but come on. Verge is an channel based out of America, so of coarse the topics are going to be primarily those that relate to Americans.
We got a look inside the studio where ***** is betting billions on the future of sports:
Snoozeville

Cable companies really are digging their own graves. All these companies are 4k ready yet they can't even broadcast 1080p
I hope you watched the video. The cable companies either don't have the last mile infrastructure for mass 4K or they just haven't figured out their BS pricing for it. it's not ESPN's fault
H2OMC Did you even read my comment?
MrFinny95 yes and no? bit reactionary on my part, plus misunderstanding. you have my apologies.
Sports might we more interesting if we could watch the game real time in VR, so it will feel like you are in the stadium.
Is 3-D gonna come back? Nope.jpg lol
Great video though!

Hard to find a tech site telling better stories than the Verge right now.
Can you guys do a video on the GoPro NHL deal
That'd be boring as hell
Another great video from the Verge. I love these in-depth videos that give a new understanding of what we often ignore or take for granted.
Great video Verge, love it when you look at this kind of stuff.
What i hate the most is that there's no streaming of local channels in local markets for free or a low flat fee if you want to adapt and get distribution in more hands and more eyes than the way they do it now...They do some streaming in video, but not nearly enough to make difference.
Hey let's watch it on ESPN... says no one ever.
Beautiful amazing video. I could feel how passionate about their work those guys are. I love sports
Where do you guys get your music from?! It's amazing.
Have no interest in sports, but I loved this piece. Major props to The Verge and ESPN.
What is the intro music name?
It's laughable that ESPN talks about cord cutting and then shows the Watch ESPN app. You can hardly watch anything with it unless you have a cable subscription!
great video verge!
Great video, great innovators in their field, they need to show more NHL highlights
The insistance on "sideline reporters" blabbering about nothing the least bit interesting - or shoving a mic in some bothered coach's face is so unnecessary.
Watch a lot of sports but not on ESPN as we get Sky Sport in the UK. So your intro is incorrect.

Cool Video!
This is a fantastic video! Does anyone know what type of cameras The Verge's video team uses to shoot their footage?
Very cool.
Songs?
F to the I to the R to the S to the T
The Verge Please put Vergecast back on youtube.
Didn't know you were an advertising company
***** Coca-Cola is in the same situation and they do ads, like huge company as Nike, GM, Mc Donalds, etc.
3D will never come back
Great story!
Star sports ruined the whole live TV experience.. ESPN comeback to India
Plzzzzz tel me 3d will never come back!!!!!
Sports Center more like LeBron Center
Doesn't come close to Sky Sports :)
how about E-sports?
You can't really say you're adapting to cord cutters if you're still at the mercy of cable companies. Ya you're on Roku and Amazon TV, but I can't watch your trash programming unless I'm a Comcast customer
Can't stand espn
