It's not gone yet people, the FCC wants to drag this out as long as possible because they didn't expect how much backlash this was going to cause, so keep the pressure on them. Though this was just 3 years ago! God damn, shows how fast the government can change face.
wow i really like this channel really great quality videos and awesome narrators and hosts i wish i would have found this channel a long time ago lol thumbs up and sumbscribed
Removing net neutrality can actually go two ways, one positive for the consumer but negative for the business, one negative for the consumer and one that doesn't change anything for business other than falling amounts of clients. ISPs have two ways of doing it: Either they charge users for the extra bandwidth usage for the websites, which is going to do nothing other than decrease the amounts of customers of companies due to not everyone being able to afford it. This one is negative for the customer but also bad for the business. Or they only charge the websites for that extra bandwidth usage, which is going to be positive for the consumer. HERE IS HOW IT'S BENEFICIAL TO THE CONSUMER. The ISPs will have more money without charging the consumer. With that money they will be able to offer better connections at lower prices. They will also be able to extend their lines to more rural areas so more people will have access to internet. The bad side however is that start ups will have a much harder time and multi-billion companies like Google and Netflix will have to deal with a couple of less ferraris and private jets they can buy every year, sucks for them but not that sad to be honest. All in All I think the 2nd option is more likely to happen and the removal of net neutrality will actually be better for some people.
ISPs are not going to use the extra money they earn from companies like Google and Netflix to improve connection speeds, they're going to pocket it like the greedy pigs they are. 2/3 of Americans only have one option for high speed internet, meaning that ISPs have no reason to upgrade their service, and will inevitably raise prices since their customers don't have anywhere else to go.
This is some good damn news for once. I feel like the internet should be celebrating on a much more massive scale! Or at least the parts that I go to should be.
Well... At this point, luck is the only thing keeping the Internet this way. Comcast (unless it's calling itself Xfinity now, then Xfinity), AT&T, Verizon, etc. are all working to put an end to net neutrality. Net neutrality allows big companies to take away everything from someone - if they stop paying their internet bills - but not something away from everyone. They want to take away a lot of somethings away from everyone, most likely competition, to FURTHER cement their power over our internet. There are plenty of articles about it if you look; The Oatmeal and Economix did two that I can think of. We can only hope that we can all shout louder than money can talk... because that's what's in out way...
So are all the other Cable/ISP providers mad at Verizon for filing the suit that pushed all of them into the Public Utility category? "Thanks Verizon!"
I caught TWC throttling my packets years ago. I was having a little trouble with my internet DJ stream in Second Life. It got worse after I installed a Roku. My bandwidth use was well within the limits of my contract. I even bought another modem to try to fix this! I figured it out after I installed a VPN and suddenly didn't have trouble with the stream at all even though the VPN reduced my total bandwidth (speed).
Appreciate your take on the subject. Net neutrality in any country will always be a recurring debate once monopolies are dissatisfied they cannot control the internet. Kudos to the FCC on keeping the playing field level for all users from the giant companies to small start-ups or even a tiny blog site like my own.
avinas jha rn america but since these are American companies that are being affected it will affect the rest of the world in no time. So basically global
You guys are free to call me stupid because I still don't get it. Are they allowed to buy to get better or it's a NET neutrality like neutral. I've watched like 3-4 videos trying to explain this and I don't get it 😩😫
Just out of curiosity; where I come from wireless internet respectively 4G always comes with restrictions in GB/month (usually between 10-30 GB ~50$/month for home connection). This annoys me to such an extend that I still prefer my 6Mb unlimited cable over 50Mb 4G. They even sell extra volume for 17$/10GB. Is my eyes this is pure piracy. Is my country the unlucky exception or is this usually the case?
This is definitely not a complaint and I'm not sure if this has to do with net neutrality but trying to watch RUclips videos from the YT App VS your Web Browser (doesn't matter who, I'm mean from ANY web browser) is like speeding down the freeway vs rollerblading down a dirt path! The difference in speed makes it that you need to watch YT videos through there app!
" All regulatory agencies have the same problem ; all of them practice the same tyrannical injustices , inconsistencies and whims as the FCC ; all of them spread the same kind of destruction. " -Ayn Rand-
The USA has possibly slowed the amount of innovation that can take place, opening a gateway for other emerging markets in countries such as China to grow steadily and possibly become much greater superpowers. You can thank Ajit Pai when your economy starts faltering/destabilising as the Internet is one of the biggest sources of revenue for the government and a forum for innovation, which the government relies heavily on to stay ahead in the game.
Could someone explain to me, does this mean internet will get faster in anyway? Or will companies still provide the same 10 down 1 up crap that we have right now.
This video in no way explained the rules that the FCC passed. It kind of explained what the Title II classification is, and some of the back story of the issue, but failed spectacularly in explaining the rules themselves.
I made this comment before they uploaded their video about net neutrality being destroyed. We knew net neutrality was going to die months before and I was just pointing out the fact that it's strange that they didn't inform anybody about before it happened yet they can make a video about it being put through.
Nothing will change for the internet consumer. It might increase competition of competition chose so due to monopolies on rights to build exclusive cables, but outside that, nothing. What it means is that isps cant discriminate and throttle your speed when you visit certain webpages amongst many things.
and let go Mr bill-gates, you have no right to holding him, or control, him,God sees right through your eyes, you know your deepest secrets your darkest deepest secrets he sees right through your eyes,,, you're brushing your teeth in the bathroom ,, you look in the mirror,, God sees himself inside of both of you, at the same time, when you're talking to somebody i to eye God see his own reflection and both of you you can't get away with nothing I love the Bible it tells the truth the King James Bible that's a true Bible, so this means God is ever where and he sees everything you cannot get away with nothing repent my repent will burn in hell
Are you an isp provider? No? Then no. Nothing will change for you. This isnt internet regulations. This is internet provider regulations. You already had net neutrality. NOW its enforceable.
hajkie ok so now they can enforce their new regulations. Great for us internet users! Until Comcast is all like "we have to raise your prices and charge new fees because this regulation is costing us too much money." And then the government will step in and be like you cannot raise prices which will lead to even crappier service than we already have now. What government monopoly has better prices, quality, and service compared to the private sector? None. Now I dont like comcast as much as the next guy but now our taxes are going to go to comcast. The Feds should have just made it illegal for ISPs to restrict data period. And if the ISP does they will face a fine. But that's it. Making it a public utility will make things worse.
Joshua Crawford If by new regulations you mean regulations from 1934 called the communications act, lol, then yes, these are new regulations. :P As for crappy service, they are not even using a 10% of the potential capacity at the moment. :P When comcast claimed they were making little revenue, that revenue was still 12.6 billion dollars. Verizons most expensive project, cost 13 billion, they complained it was very expensive. Hell, the fact that comcast lobbied towns and politicians to get exclusive rights to build cables around towns so they dont have to get any competition should just give you an idea how privileged they have it right now. :p Direct your anger at comcast and verizon and the others, not against the people who are trying to protect you from being screwed over.
I understand your point, I just worry about the unintended consequences. A lot of good intentions have negative results. Not always but a lot of the time.
All we gotta do is get our brothers & sisters from the LGBT community, and our Muslim brothers on board to come out and say that this new rule offends them, their beliefs and lifestyle and the FCC will bring the old law back by Monday.
This is a great recommendation for a Republican sweep of politics. Regulation is such bullshit. ...and Electric providers are already deregulated. Wired AND "wireless"....because....well the government adds so much value.
This is the second vid I’ve watched on net neutrality and I still don’t get it....so deregulation sounds like a good thing but is actually a bad thing?? So there’s no data limit on bandwidth but Verizon can charge me more money, how does that even make sense?
I especially liked the part where Ezra tells us that the internet succeeded because it was so neutral. And so the government has to step in and regulate it. Because .... Look, a Squirrel
Its not internet regulations. Its internet provider regulations. It controls what the providers can or cant do. But this already existed. They already did that. What happened now is that its enforceable.
hajkie I guess if you get your internet directly, rather than through a provider, you won't be impacted. But since pretty much everybody uses the internet through providers, regulating what the providers can do for the customers IS regulating the internet. You may mean that the contents of the internet will not be regulated, but that's not really the problem, it is the regulation of the relationship between customers and providers. For example, one "fear" the government was supposedly "solving" was "access". Meaning -- Netflix has customers. Those customers would love Netflix to go really fast. But customers work through internet providers like Comcast and Verizon, which sell generic packages, providing a bandwidth that can be used for anything. So, Netflix goes to Comcast, and says "hey, we'll give you 10% of our customer payments to ensure that our customers get the rate they need to provide the streaming service. We, the customers, save some money, because we don't have to pay for access to a world of things at high speed that we don't need to be at high speed. Comcast makes some money. NEtflix has happy customers. Who loses? The websites that we the customer didn't care about, because we aren't fast, and their small number of customers who don't get to piggy-back on the high-speed connections Netflix is paying for. But everybody who is paying for the service benefits. And that is apparently bad, so the government will regulate it. IF you want high-speed Netflix, you also need high-speed MSNBC. Their dozen viewers will be happy. (that is hyperbole, not a fact to be checked).
Charles Wayne Netflix will always work at max capacity of what netflix set up their servers at. It will handle the traffic that they know it can handle. The customers bought a contract stating the download and upload speed. They know what speed they can download and upload at. Thats the only two parts that should be involved in making the decision on traffic bandwidth. There shouldnt be any hidden deals going on where one webpage is put on a slower lane, on purpose slowing that speed down. The customer already paid for a speed, that shouldnt be impacted by some deals an isp provider made with a complete other party when those cables has the capacity of handling faster speeds in the first place. Thats simply shady business. And well, isp providers clearly said they didnt assort to such business before. or so they claimed lol.
It’s like watching a video of celebrating the Civil Rights Act in the 60s and suddenly realizing in Trump’s era it’s rolled back to allowing slavery under pretext of ‘Deregulating Freedeom’.
And 2 years later we are right back where we were, goodluck internet
Ian Kinuthia true and it’s the same companies and people behind it. Verizon, att,Comcast, and Ajit Pai (the puppet)
lmao. This video seems depressing now.
I'm from the future. I have terrible news.
I'm from the even further future, where the FCC has repealed net neutrality all together.
I'm from the furthest future, the ISPs has started censoring everything incriminating about ajit pai.

Such Little Views. Sadly this issue has arisen again and we need an update Vox!
Your channel just keeps getting better. Another great video.
sorry to break it to you..
well almost three years later and fcc voted to repeal it, now its all on congress to save this!!!
Well this sure is a little... Uh... Awkward.
It's not gone yet people, the FCC wants to drag this out as long as possible because they didn't expect how much backlash this was going to cause, so keep the pressure on them.
Though this was just 3 years ago! God damn, shows how fast the government can change face.
Well... that didn't last long..
Aaaaand it's gone...

Yeah and now the new Trump appointed FCC chairman is getting rid of net neutrality.

Its December 15, 2017. FCC has changed the game. Congress voted 2/3 to repeal Net Neutrality. My name is Arthur Cano. Farewell internet
for me this would be bad I mm homeschooled and I would have do end my home schooling and look at all the schools that use computers
So are all the other Cable/ISP providers mad at Verizon for filing the suit that pushed all of them into the Public Utility category? "Thanks Verizon!"
Guys.... Net Neutrality aka Net Equality is gone in America. Protect your country from this devastation. 😞
One year from now, nobody will remember this, and the internet will be the same.
Death to fascism, freedom to the nation
Memory of Stjepan Filipović
2 years later it has been taken away. Wow

Very well made video.

"A public utility that the public has a interest in making sure is distributed and run fairly." - Net Neutrality
today, Dec 14, 2017, more than two years after this video was posted, F.C.C. Repeals Net Neutrality Rules.
Just out of curiosity; where I come from wireless internet respectively 4G always comes with restrictions in GB/month (usually between 10-30 GB ~50$/month for home connection). I remember old people telling me they will bring back AOL charge by the minute, I said that's not it at all but old people know tech
Remember when the internet was free?.... Good times...
A 2017 update, please?
The USA has possibly slowed the amount of innovation that can take place, opening a gateway for other emerging markets in countries such as China to grow steadily and possibly become much greater superpowers. How to bore me to death
RIP net neutrality
Thank you for spreading awareness.
thank you too.
Who is watching this in 2017 after FCC u-turn?
Rip this video
Could someone explain to me, does this mean internet will get faster in anyway? Or will companies still provide the same 10 down 1 up crap that we have right now.
No. What this does is enforce laws over internet providers to enforce net neutrality that already existed. Basically said.
And now its over
I really hope there's an update to this after what happened
wait... what happened? I missed something! After winning did we end up losing?!
Mayro Dneir ..sadly as of today I Can say Net Neutrality is bieng threatened...
Some actual news from Vox for once.
haha yeah
Just because the FCC got there way remember it has to pass the courtroom before this war is over we are not done yet
RIP 2017
This video in no way explained the rules that the FCC passed. It kind of explained what the Title II classification is, and some of the back story of the issue, but failed spectacularly in explaining the rules themselves.
I love how vox can report on Net Neutrality being enacted but they won't talk at all about it being destroyed currently
did you even check the date of this video?
It might become more clear if maybe you took your head out of your ass? Still not clear?
I made this comment before they uploaded their video about net neutrality being destroyed. We knew net neutrality was going to die months before and I was just pointing out the fact that it's strange that they didn't inform anybody about before it happened yet they can make a video about it being put through.
so... you give up?
rip net neutrality got repealed today ;-;
I'm going to try to be the president now
Telecommunications companies in America are no more than government franchises ... who is their market competition?
will it still be unlimited?
Nothing will change for the internet consumer. It might increase competition of competition chose so due to monopolies on rights to build exclusive cables, but outside that, nothing. What it means is that isps cant discriminate and throttle your speed when you visit certain webpages amongst many things.
Lol now today they are targeting it, Vox you should do a video on it now! Please.

So if you're comparing this agreement to a communist country i can only assume you've read it yourself............
If anything this is the complete opposite. This allows for all people to have equal voice on the internet.
So if things were like this in 2014 how.come the internet didnt end.
Oh this is such a good idea! I wonder how long it'll last
But 3:07 is 187 secs tho
There is already a law against anti competitiveness and monopolisations so why does the government really want this law in place?
