Hi Nathan/Rachel/Troy, I think you guys didn’t get the actual message behind the song. Thanks Nathan for doing a bit of research. So Rachel was asking how could they be talking about pain when they all seemed happy and were dancing. That’s why it’s important to pay attention to the lyrics. Not just the lyrics, even the music from the 2nd half got into a serious note. That intensity itself changes the mood.
So regarding the expression of the pain, in some parts of the lyrics, it explains that even though the Grandma had a lavish garden going, her throat remained dry which means she didn’t benefit from the fruits of her labour (literally). There are other examples too.
The singer, Arivu, wrote the song based on his Grandma’s stories. That’s why at some parts, he sang like an old lady using a traditional Tamil style known as Opaari.
At the end, his Grandmother will be sitting in the centre. Nathan got that right. Spot on.
If you guys notice, the male singer was dressed in colours that blended in with surroundings whereas the female singer dressed in colours that were outstanding from the surroundings.
The song focuses a lot on preserving the land and soil. That’s why in the song, the Grandma (Arivu’s voice) says “what’s lacking, my dear Grandson”. This means that the older generations have provided us with bountifulness by using land and nature the right way. So this is a message to the current generation to take care of nature before things get worse.
Btw traditional Tamil instruments were used in this song.
    All abt ancestors and nature.
Cool cinematography. Meaningful message. Powerful piece. Superb song. Well written. Viral video.👍🏿

Enjaami is a copied song from popular international music video named Makeba Jain mainly. Other than that visual is influenced by Katty Perry's Roar. Costume and attitude from Cardi B. Arivu's part is taken from Jason Derulo's tip toe & Kendrick lemars all the stars.
You can catch the theft within 1st 15 seconds of the video. Enjami had this sound odia odia & jain one had ooohe ooohe. Then Enjami changed Makeba Makeba with cuckoo cuckoo.
Even the concept of both the songs are related. Background music too.

    Some Info on Tamil:
Need to know it to appreciate the beauty of it
Recently (last 5-10 years) archeologist of mohenjadaro & Harappa (M&H) civilisation (the most advanced old civilisation) has identified to be linked to the Dravidian civilisation of which Proto- Tamil (old Tamil) was the spoken language.
They also claim that Tamil is "the only living ancient or oldest" still speaking language (to current day which is language used to sing "Enjoy Enjaami" in this video)
N that's why archeologist and linguist classify it as the "The lost living civilisation" as the scriptures (Brahmic scripts) found at those M&H excavation sites are similar to those found on pottery at kilazhdi excavation sites in Tamil Nadu as well as at Hampi sites (Dravidian region in South India) where its archeological structure are very similar as in M&H sites in north India
There many wonders too there - temples with chains carved out of granite, fusion of different rocks technology !!, 800-1000 years polished structure still smooth to precision n shining after all these years!! Revolving pillars as in spindle; seven musical note off a single pillar that comes off it on striking different sides of the pillars (delicate hand carving) and many more.
One more pin hole tech used so much so that the shadow of the temple tower's crown's shadow falls upside down instead of upright shadow all built almost 1000 years ago
Also there are many many temples like in maha Balipuram where a circular water tank tub (for bathing) is cut out of rock to a millionth of an inch (circumference of tub) which is machine precision accuracy using only medieval tools
Not forgetting Ellora & Ajanta caves n many more ... I can go on n on .... I was astounded at the craftsmanship and depictions of advanced technology that we use today almost 1500-1000 years ago !!
U need to go over to India to appreciate them - I did n think I should do more if it to learn abt the skills & intelligence of older civilisation throughout the world.
Tamil is classified as the only "Super Classical" languages as classified by Harvard university since Tamil satisfied all 11 prerequisite condition for classification for classical status unlike the rest.
Some classical language are Chinese, Japanese, Latin, Hebrew & Tamil, Sanskrit, .
N closest was Hebrew & Japanese with 9 I believe (from recollection) n the rest below that.with Sanskrit @3 (no hindi or Urdu in the list surprisingly) and Chinese with 7.
In Tamil language the Tamilians coined 20 more words for mathematical numbers beyond 1 billion n y such high crunching do they need it 2000 years ago; unlike now only recently did we incorporate new words such billion, zillion, trillion, quadrillion, tetra zillion n such
So older civilisations were more advanced in maths then itself which we don't quite appreciate.
There are 5 most intelligent languages - Tamil, Japanese, Latin, Hebrew, Chinese if not Arabic
The reason Bcos the language has continuity in those language which is linked to maths, transpiring into the "Logic" realms leading advance civilisation development and so the claim of "intelligent" Language.
    For example, In English the number stops at 10 (discontinuity) n there is a disconnect after 10 (between 11 to 19) the continuity behind only after number 20 onwards (21 23 .. 29 ... 30, 31 ... 50, 51 ... 80 .. 99 , 100, 101..... 111 .... 121 ... 150 to infinity)
So after 10 , 11 shd be read as ten one ten two not eleven or twelve but after 20, 21 is read as twenty one or 33 as thirty three n so on but the disconnect is between ten and nineteen (shd be ten ten (10) to ten nine (19) as per by logic.
Bcos of this shortcomings other languages does not fit into the most intelligent languages as per experts who classified it to be so.
The continuity is what separates these 5 languages from the rest.
There are many more interesting factor - go explore it by visiting India or reading vetted materials on it.
Watch Praveen Mohan post & videos on you RUclips - he is good with explanation n evidences produced during his presentation (discard the Mythological and sensational part but understand rational & logical science part of his video - it will broaden your thoughts and mind on ancient civilisations

enjaami = en + saami. "en" -> mine and "saami" -> God. The literal meaning of enjaami - "My God". The contextual meaning here -> Grandparents affectionately call their grandchildren "enjaami" which reflects how much they love them(equal to a god). Elders also use this term when trying to console/comfort children as an expression of how much they love them.
That different voice that Arivu is singing with in-between is supposed to mimic grandmother's(elders) voice. The lines that were sung using this different voice are meaningful colloquial sayings by rural elders that were passed down from older generations. Another aspect is the way he is singing these lines is using "Oppari" - a traditional form of music that is still used in funerals for lamenting.
The music instruments used were traditional Tamil music instruments(all the drums) and the drum elements are of Tamil traditional music not of African tribal music as everybody is assuming.
Also the video backdrop with tribal people is supposed to highlight how old the Tamil civilization is. Tamil is one of the oldest classical languages in the world and possibly the oldest civilization with thousands of years of history. Everyone makes tribe elements connections to Africa which is mistaken.

This song has got deeper meaning & innuendos that goes beyond just the lyrical meaning (translation or trans-diction)
U got connected with whole conceptualisation of the video - the singing, music composition, the vocalist, rendition, instrumentation, cinematography and beautiful lyrics which captivates us, while conveying a simple yet powerful message for our eternity (which many younger generation forgets and get caught in consumerism) :-
TOGETHERNESS in DIVERSITY with RESPECT for RIGHTS of ALL Creatures-Creation Plant & Animal to LIVE in HARMONY with US all without exhausting Mother Nature & SHE will HEAL and SHIELD us ALL if ONLY we ALLOW Mother Nature to do HER works at her PACE.
The language is Tamil (S.Indian - where is Chennai is based) and just as ARR & u both stating it's just the start n eventually the culmination of other languages will follow from diff global artist & background to make it global - good effort & foresight
Arivu attempts to sing in his grandmothers voice !!
Dhee is the singer of the famous "Rowdy Baby" song hitting in more than 1 billion viewer count in just RUclips alone (not counting other social media platforms)
Cuckoo - is the Cooing sound of the Cuckoo bird calling out (sounds - cuckoo cuckoo) & so the bird was named cuckoo bird.in English
Just as this song is calling out to all to come together and live together in harmony as a family by respecting every creature's rights & belonging to be so and also sacrifices made by our elders to ensure the world's sustainability as we are all interdependent and should not exhaust our resources thru our irresponsible acts pushing us towards excessive consumerism directed by egoistic & greedy political leaders & biz entities covering people being displaced for all the bad reason as war, slavery, conflict and the likes n they making livelihood away from as refugees or otherwise due to discrimination.
There's more to it if you go deeper ... it's about displacement of people for economic reasons, discrimination at all levels, disparity & disproportionate distribution of wealth as seen by certain biz Corp & political people but very the farmers who puts the food on ur plate is left behind struggling & scraping to make a living n let's come together as one to change and correct the ills sowed n directed by the many few (max 100-500) over the many (6 billion).
Let's hv compassion to spread compassion thru unity with diversity over divisibility
Enjaami is colloquially pronounced, with a village slang
But it's actually EN Sammy (My Dear, My Beloved, My lord) and such is a
Tamil endearment term usually used by elders to address their children or loved ones; esp the grandparents call their grandkids as such.
Oodiya ... is actually Oodi Va (come running)
to me or here (as we beckon come quickly to me) in Tamil language (which is marginally related & spoken in Central African countries too)
Vaango Vaango = Come over, Come over (is sing with a Sri Lankan Tamil slang/twang) instead of Vaanga Vasnga (actual Tamil)
Did u identify the young singer holding the hand of the elder to give support they would carry on with their elder's endeavour the custom of respect & sacrifice for the benefit of one and all including various creature's sustainability let alone survival of humankind in making this world a better place to live in.
Modern Living with Older Generation's Traditional Values as one Earthly Family -
So let's follow thru the path our ancestors fostered -,living in peace & harmony with Mother Nature.

You need to understand the language, because the translations always do not do justice to actual meaning of the original language...
It talks about quite a few things
    1. It talks about an oppressed group of people who were forcefully migrated from India to srilanka for converting vergin lands to cultivations, and then after few centuries sent back, making then orphans in both places, and then needed to start afresh...
    2. It talks about us taking nature and it's effects for granted, so that we enjoy do many other things by spending on these artificial things where as we ignore the nature which is free to use / see / feel...
    3. It talks about the damage we are doing to nature..
    4. It talks about our origin being farmers, and now losing Focus on it, and one day we may face the brunt of it...
    5. It talks about the current earth as a gift from our forefathers and that we are on the one side not cherishing it and on the other side making it a poorer earth for our next generations...
    6. It talks about the nature / earth to be common for humans and animals equally, and not only for humans... We are eating into their space and breaking the ecological chain...
    7. The music is convergence of various genres and keeps going on from start to end..
    8. Youngsters fantasize and live on fantasises like artificial entertainment / romance etc, thereby losing creativity and forget mother Nature from birth to death. Reason is that we fail to educate them on or past...
    9. This video is created by majaa, which is a platform for independent artists...
    10... Goes on guys...

Our Ancestors preserve and protect these all important things for us. But in todays greedy, careless, selfish human continuously destroying all important things on Earth. Actually human destroying their future by destroying the Earth. That's not the real humanity. Always remember that human don't live without Mother Nature, human don't exist without this beautiful, wonderful planet. It's a song of nature. It needs some maturity to understand though it looks simple . tribute to our mother earth and creature and our ancestors. It's because of them we exist ..they play an important role so be grateful . It gives strong message saying come together enjoy nature at the same time save our earth because it's not only us who lives here , it belongs to animals ,birds too. One who understand this deep message its never too late to go n enjoy in nature aswel as contribute to save this beautiful nature for not just future humans but also for future of creatures living on this planet . 🙏 And never forget to thank farmers n ancestor, tribes .help them n give them love , respect 😊!

The style of singing used here is “oppari”. Understandable that not everyone gets its meaning as its mostly specific to Tamils who gather when theres a death to sing and grief as a community. When i first heard it, it caught me off guard as I immediately associated it with death and negativity (i am tamilan). However, when i listened to it again, paying attention to the lyrics, it made me cry as the usage of oppri style singing hit me as to how our ancestors lost their lands to colonisation and now us to modernisation. So yes, in a way, Arivu is literally crying out for his land.

This song is about arivu that guys grandmother named valiyamma from Tamil Nadu India was taken as captives to Sri Lanka to do tea plantation by the British people.. but while returning to home country India thinking that things will change.. but it was not ..all her property, house, land were taken by British people.. not only her family but many families condition was that unwillingly land was taken by British people.. so his grandmother educated her future generations to be given education and never forget what their ancestors went through..

It's not abt them being happy while sing a sad lyrical song
It's the identification of ones issues n life and the need to enjoy what you have around and come together to resolved these various culminations that are forced on us all n not be afraid to bring to notice of the many rights and wrongs done by us and only way to move forward is to respect and live in harmony with one and all
It's about the message and how this platform was proponent in delivering it and should appreciate the creativity in bring it to the front than many either ignore or not bothered with as they are caught in an intrinsic web thrown at us by the few self-centred political & biz leaders who are trying to shape the world that suit their own ego & interest .... n u know that to!! 🤪

Good you want to know more abt Tamil & thanks for that.
    FYI:
    Thatha Thatha = grandfather
    Partee Partee = grandmother
Kalaivettee = Kalai (plough) + Vetee (cutter)
So it's about Farmers, cultivation & Agriculture
    Cuckoo is a real bird
that COOS - making the song cuckoo cuckoo in the morning (wake up calls of nature)
It sounds just like Dhee does in the video calling onto others.
So this cooing bird is called Cuckoo Bird in English just Bcos the bird sings or coos "CUCKOO-CUCKOO"
You would have heard of the famous Swiss Cuckoo Bird Clock - it pops out of the clock and goes Cuckoo Cuckoo to sound the hour for the respective time.
    Annakili is actually
    Annam (swan) + kizhli (parrot)
a name many tamils use to name their girl child meaning beautiful girl (white as swan signifying peace purity & pretty as parrot with nice beautiful eyes n nose)
It is just a name like Lilly or Rose describing beauty for a girl child.
In reality there is no such one bird but individual birds as in swan (Annam) and parrot (Kilizhi)
Cuckoo is a real bird (not just a name to call their children)
Annakili is just a name (no such real bird) - describing a beautiful girl
See previous comment to know more abt Tamil

The title “Enjoy Enjaami” has so much of meaning. To the people who are unfamiliar about the title,
“Enjoy” is combination of two words, En + joy [thaayi], narrated by the Rapper Arivu. “En” means “My” in tamil, “thaayi” is actually “Mother” in Tamil. Combinedly it is “My Mother”…
“Enjaami” is combination of two words, En + Jaami. “En” means “My” in tamil, “Jaami” is actually “Saamy” it means “God” in Tamil, combinedly it is “My God”. “My God” i.e. "Enjaami" is how elderly people call their grandchildren or their loved ones in Tamil Culture which is so so cute to hear that. Even the farmers and labours use to call their Masters (Landlords) as "Enjaami" as a respect giving.
Likewise singer Arivu is called everytime as “Enjaami” by his Grandmother Valliammal affectionately in real life.
"My mother, My God, My Nature, and that's my freedom", this is the creation of "Enjoy Enjaami"..
That respected Grandmother Valliammal is shown in this ENJOY ENJAAMI official video song at the end… take a look… ROCK ENJOY ENJAAMI…

Brief Info on Arivu & Dhee
Dhee is Tamil of srilankan Tamil origin (mother) settled in Australia but now moved to Chennai with Step Dad Santhosh the producer of this video .. She can speak Tamil but can't quite read and write it well as she was brought up in Australia
Like wise Arivu ancestors were from Tamil Nadu near Kutralam - who were taken tho Ceylon (now Srilanka and not ethnic Srilankan Tamils as Dhees's mother Meenakshi Iyer) workers for tea plantation by the Brits when drought that region and was once again displaced after centuries from Srilanka by Srilankan Gov after it got independence from the British.
Which was messed up by the Brits in not sorting the equal rights first as agreed by all parties which was eventually rescinded by the Sinhalese Bandaranayaka PM period
By forcefully removing Tamil of its official status n forcefully inserting Singalese language while removing the Tamil language off school media and how ancient Tamil library and its literal works and arts were burnt down to wipe out Tamil historical traces and that set of the dispute leading to disharmony and friction within the 3 societies -,thanks to one leader (just as the division of India into Pakistan all Bcos Brits messed it up) ... ok enough of this
Arivu tries to narrate the difficulties of people being forcefully displaced and so the importance of ancestors and tiger suede rings and contributions made for their future generation S n that we shd all respect the rights of everyone be it animal plants or creatures as we are one if we become one with Mother Nature
Arivu lamenting denotes that and also he attempts to sing in his grandmother's old creaky voice at certain segment
