  • One of his best music ever heard. I took the shown pictures during various trips in Hungary and Transsylvania.

I love this track and will never understand why it was released 8 years later as a b-side. It's beautiful.

The Path & Woodhenge were both recorded in 1976 for the Arts film "Reflections". "Woodhenge" was released as a B side to the single "Blue Peter" and was on the album "Platinum" both 1979. "The Path" as a B side to the single "Shine" in 1986.

A sweet single from the golden period of Mike.

I can hear shades of "Hergest Ridge" in there. Why have I never heard this track before?! I thought I had everything!

Avalon888, I too thought I had everything. I've been collecting all music Oldfield since the late seventies, but it seems that no matter how many records you have, there always seems to be yet another track that you'd never heard of that lots of people say is their favourite! And b-sides of 12" singles that you missed because you blinked when they were released. On the upside, it's great to come across a new gem on RUclips!

Mike Oldfield composed the soundtrack for a natural science movie called Reflections in 1976 for which he used some previously unreleased tracks like Woodhenge, The Path, demo versions from Hergest Ridge, Ommadawn and an unavaliable song called Making Way (read lyrics).

Incredible! I'm a huge Mike Oldfield fan especially from this period, and I never knew of these tracks. I'm grateful for this information!

I used to use this track when filming sunsets over the water and reflections of boats in the harbour. Lovely scenery here too!

If only I'd heard this track before... This piece entails all the workmanship and passion why I love Mike's music over all other music, in this day and age. I've also gone for quite a few of different styles of music, but the pure and simple (such as Windham Hill, Virgin - Japan, Sylvian etc.) still remains at the top of my list. I forgot to mention Flairck, and in particular, Erik Visser, a most wonderful guitar player and writer who also worked with Mary Coughlan, amongst others.

This is one of my favorite Mike Oldfiend tunes. I've been in the Hungarian countryside (Hejce) and this does something for me too. Also reminds me of Opeth - melodic metal have a lot to answer for! :D

This was published in 1986 as a 'B' side of the 12" 'Shine' single.

    幽霊と亡霊の世界の中にいる妖精は、精霊と共に踊る。
    誰にも忘れられたあの世は、もう直ぐで見える様になると。
    そんな思いを綴られた曲かと、個人的には思っています。

I suppose this was released in 1986 mainly because the pipeline was empty and a B-side to “Shine” was needed. What a juxtaposition - this gem from Mike’s 70s peak, next to the tinny 80s dross of “Shine” itself.
