I love this, it looks so good , it’s also impactful in the understatement of the colours you used, one can see the truth of the saying “ less is more “ in this painting , oh Jon I’ve really got to start getting my act together , it’s that sort of year one thing after another, but I will get there honestly I will. Thankyou so much for all you to do to inspire us, and I can truthfully say I’m always unfailingly inspired

Since I started with watercolor painting, I found out I like and sometimes even LOVE loose paintings, made by others, but I absolutely abhore painting like that myself. If I don't paint minutely detailed and as realistic as I can get it, I feel like it's simply not finished.
Only problem: you have to be(come) VERY good to be able to paint like I want to, so I have a long way to go yet :D

Hi again. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a New Yorker expat living abroad).
I agree with you! I am focused on Real Wildlife (animals mainly, but not including homo sapiens) in my Art, both in dry mediums (graphite and learning on charcoal as well as using both together) and wet mediums (inking, ink and wash, watercolour and starting with gouache).
It is very interesting to hear that, as you've said in this video, that most watercolor artists try to explain the advantages of just being loose with watercolor...
I use a loose approach when it is needed... but that doesn't mean you can't be detailed and Realistic with watercolor. It is just an Artist choice, not an Industry standard!
I just love to work on realistic wildlife, and I don't do Art for the money (I don't even have, not only a RUclips account, nor any Instagram, etc.). I do my Art for my family... and because I love it!
In any case... there are many artists who create wonderful realistic artwork with watercolor (in many subjects, such as botanical, wildlife, landscapes, Urban and people, to name a few) that is amazing to see their art.
What I'm trying to say is that "the medium does not dictate your art"!
And... an Artist always learns New things... everyday! Picasso created +50000 finished pieces during his lifetime and just imagine how many many more he left out (as not finished)...
"Art is Art... for the artist to tell and for those who want to listen"! (At least that's what I've always told my children).
    Cheers from Sunny Spain!
    😁👍😎
