As a rule, in my family, tempoyak is never eaten with belacan, pekasam or budu at the same time. Basically there should be only one fermented component in one dish. Since tempoyak is already fermented, it doesn't go with belacan, pekasam and budu (which has a fermentation stage in its processing). We do have sambal tempoyak mentah, which is raw tempoyak mixed with pounded chili and salt... When we eat gulai tempoyak, the sambal is just chili pounded with salt. Never sambal belacan... My siblings and I like to pour Budu on our rice like it's a gravy. Even my Kelantanese granparents are shocked with how much Budu we eat. Budu is fermented anchovies in salt. They leave it out in a tub and over time, it gets "melted" and became liquidy. Best with some chopped bird's eye chili and lime.

CORRECTION: 3:40 Fikry lied about the ulam lmaoo that's not "ulam raja" but "kacang botor". Both are some of the popular types of ulam though. Ulam basically means vegetables that can be eaten uncooked. Kudos to Fikry for bringing out some of the most local Malaysian cuisine you can think of! One can even say these are "lauk orang kampung" (villagers' dishes) or "lauk orang tua" (elderly food) and are more common for people living in the northern or east coast states so no wonder even Logesh hasn't tried some of these. My favorite is the same as Rachel's; patin buah is 🤤
Rachel is so sweet ... tak kekok langsung.. mmg mcm adik beradik la Fikry & Kumar nih 😆..weii kacang botor la Fikhry ..apa pulak ulam raja 🤣🤣... sedap betul nmpk ikan pekasam tu ... bertabah dia dgn bau2 juadah tu 😄.. yes ..budu is fermented anchovies .. while tempoyak is fermented durian ...
my favourite. budu & tempoyak boleh campur je, boleh campur hirisan halus bawah merah & mangga & daun kesom ikut citarasa masing - masing. Ulam yg Rachel makan tu kacang botol/winged bean, ulam raja tu sejenis ulam daun. Ulam boleh terus cicah je kat budu/letak atas nasi dgn budu+tempoyak. klau ada ikan singgang/ ikan rebus/ ikan bakar lg uhm.
Lol your host is funny 🤣🤣 It's awesome to see Rachel trying different types of local food 😁🤭 Gulai Patin Tempoyak is easily the best dish that I ever taste, that makes me learn how to make it myself and hunt for ikan patin coz I live in Johor. And just eat with any ulam and budu with it with no additional dish 👍 Meanwhile Ikan Pekasam, cooked the right way is also one of the best dish to eat with just ulam like Kacang Botol, and Sambal Belacan with soy sauce ketchup. I would call it as my lazy but fulfilling dish day lol The "suap nasi" part iis so cute 🥰
hehe, it is not @3:40 Ulam Raja, it is Kacang Botol . Cheers. Rachel you are so sporting n awesome. ^_^ try with tempoyak+budu... OMG it is next level of delish!

Finally they tried Ikan Patin! The East Coast of Malaysia is full of unique and lovely food that, most of the time, never gets noticed in the RUclips space. Kalau nak try ikan patin lagi, boleh pergi restoran Sedap Wehh kat Kuantan. They have the best Ikan Patin.
Durian Kimchi is a good representation actually. 👍👌
Durian Kimchi, another word for a marriage between Malaysian guys and South Korean ladies, or Malaysian ladies and South Korean guys!
Durian Kinchi and Kakak Korea👍👍
Omg Patin gulai tempoyak is one of my fav dishes
Ulam is some kind of Malaysian way eating salad..and normally dipped with sambal tempoyak .before goes in ur mouth.
I'm so happy that you guys really appreciate Malaysian dishes 🥰🥰😀😀😀👍👍👍💪💪💪
I'm sure 💯 Fikry Ibrahim have mix blood Malay + Indian (mamu) 🤪 The gazebo or pondok looks very beautiful..you can see the Malay arts on this gazebo
thumbs up la Rachel for respect Malaysian foods..thank you so much!
But the ulam is spot on for a tempoyak meal. Kacang botor, timun, ulam raja, daun selom goes well with tempoyak flavour.
'Tis deserves more views coz Fikri really is supportive
Rachel is more Malaysianised than me now haha. I can't pass through Tempoyak although I love durian. Or, perhaps I didn't get the right tempoyak and mixed with the wrong food haha.
Got to try it all at a go to get the right taste.
Try eat it while its cold... i also not a fans of tempoyak, but once i tried cold one mixed with sambal...wow...
Kelakar la Fikry Ibrahim ni, tak boring content mcm ni...best sangat tengok..Kumar and Rachel masih banyak lagi Malaysian Food to try.
Rachel is going well:) the fish kari I must try! I wonder what is the taste. Also she comments Kimchi flavor hahaha i am going to take it!!! Hahaha

3:40 Fikry, i believe that is not Ulam Raja. That's "Kacang Botol" (winged beans), i suppose 😄
Correct
Haha betol
Thank you for another great Video of your Malaysian Traditional Dishes Rachel seems to be at home with lovely food.
I to miss Malaysian Food and live in the UK and it is very hard to find really good food. I cannot wait to travel back to Malaysia and enjoy the true way of life again Thank You.

Rachel power lah..dia sempoi je, apa pun dia langgar..haha, untung bro Logesh dpt isteri mcm Rachel..easy going, baik..beradab. Sgt sesuai buat Logesh sekeluarga..dgn budaya kita org Malaysia.
Fikry..hang mmg baguih, lawak..ngam dgn depa berdua. Konten yg simple..tp sgt menarik.
Terbaik Logesh & Rachel..❤ it!
RUclipsr mcm bro Kumar antara orang yang mampu menyatukan rakyat Malaysia, dalam keadaan perpaduan yang mulai rapuh sekarang ni
Salute dgn bro Kumar dgn kak Rachel!

- Bro Kumar & Kak Rachel 😁
Kalau bangsa India Cina dan lain lain bangsa berbahasa Melayu sesama ,terasa nampak kuat kebersatuan, keharmonian dan kemesraan rakyat Malaysia yang berbilang bangsa dan agama.

So romantic la Rachel doing ‘the suap’ to Logesh 😍

In English those veggies are called winged beans. I grew them last year.
In Malaysia they’re called ‘kacang botol’ or ‘4 corner beans’
English also have this.. Steady bro
Called 4 angled beans too
@@Zuraidah1964 yg fikry bantai nya kata ulam raja 😂😂😂
@@noname-cg1gj 😂
I really appreciate how Kumaar & wife enjoyed the Malay traditional food & culture. 👍😍
Congrats Fikry Ibrahim 👏🏻
Love all three of you.
Best content so far!
my favourite. budu & tempoyak boleh campur je, boleh campur hirisan halus bawah merah & mangga & daun kesom ikut citarasa masing - masing.
I would call it as my lazy but fulfilling dish day lol
The "suap nasi" part iis so cute 🥰
Rachel. 10 thumbs up for you. so nice of you to learn the different cultures of Malaysia
Mark Wein loves tempoyak ....can go to his vlog when he visited Temerloh.......
Thorrbaekkkss !
Steadeyyyy Kumar , Rachel & Fikri
Semmpoiii 👌
🇲🇾
hehe, it is not @3:40 Ulam Raja, it is Kacang Botol . Cheers. Rachel you are so sporting n awesome. ^_^ try with tempoyak+budu... OMG it is next level of delish!
Budu= fish sauce made from anchovies or certain selected fish. Tempoyak = fermented durian. Belacan= shrimp paste. Some of my fren says you can find Budu in certain Canada fishing area.
_patin sungai mkn _*_buah ara_*_ yg gugur dr pokok sbb ikan tu x mkn _*_palett_*_ bdn pn kurang bau hanyir di sebabkan arus sungai yg sentiasa mengalir berbanding dgn _*_patin_*_ sangkar_
the way fikri Ibrahim ajar Rachel how to duduk bersimpuh so cutee!!.. 😂 😂😂
I've never seen someone who's not blood related resembles each other so much..so wholesome!
They look like brothers
Sedapnya tgk Rachel mkn smua lauk kgemarn sy adoii terliur hbis... Kena cari jgk la mcm ni....sporting jer Rachel n kumar ni.... 👍👍
Beautiful scenery with wonderful local rice n patin curry♥️♥️♥️👍👍👍🤜🤜
So great Logesh meet his twin Fikri. 👍🏻😊 Hopefully Racheal can meet her twin too. 😂😊 special vlog content this time 👍🏻✌🏻👏🏻 Terbaik 👍🏻👍🏻
bro...for Patin Tempoyak you should go to Temerloh Pahang. That's the best place for Patin Tempoyak.
true
Don't forget Bera, the hometown district of our beloved Prime Minister!
The thing I’m impressed what Rachel did:
1) She ate with hands
2) She shared her food, which I believe is uncommon in the west. Everyone just eat from their plates in the west and it’s considered exotic/ ‘complex’ to share food
Im from Terengganu. And i dont eat budu without tempoyak. This combination of sweet sour salty are ssooo good.
Fikry presented his assignment flawlessly. Big respect 👏👏
