The reason why he seemed disheartened after Undyne is that he really thinks that she was the strongest, he doesn't know about Sans's power. He was confident that he could win and bring them back until he thought that even Undyne fell to it.
I was thinking that Papyrus might have thought that sans was joking like he usually do.
Like: "Yea sans, stop making up excuses and move the sock!"
But hasn't he shown that he knows about sans' space time manipulation or whatever?
He passes it off as a joke, hence “IS SANS PRANKING YOU ACROSS TIME AND SPACE? I HATE IT WHEN HE DOES THAT.”
@@the866-sushi Yes, Papyrus knows this very much as the one replied above suggests. Even if he knew that sans could bend time and space, sans doesn't train. To Papyrus in my opinion, he considers training and excercise as strong feats and he sees time space manipulation as Sans lazyness to move from one place to another.
Despite all of Papyrus's hubris, I think he really does see Undyne as the strongest - perhaps even stronger than him. The rest are pretty unimpressive opponents - his obnoxiously lazy brother, who he can most likely outperform in a battle, a human child who he's shown to be more than comfortable in combat with, and an entity likely unknown to him. He looks up to Undyne, though. She's strong, popular, fast, and far outranks Papyrus in the royal guard. Logically, seeing that even she was taken down by the corruption likely would've put an immediate dampener on Papyrus's spirits.

That's a big part of Papyrus' character though.
At first I thought it was kinda weird that he broke down at Undyne since he would have the most emotional connection with Sans, but then I realized that's when he'd lose all hope. Undyne is his mentor, and probably the person he's singled out as the strongest monster in the world. Seeing her in that state wouldn't just mean it got a close friend, but that as far as he knows or is concerned, it got the strongest thing in the underground. And some have theorized that in Undertale, HP correlates with HoPe.
Another thing would be the fact that by Undyne, he's likely also being corrupted, which is visible at Sans.
"alright, that was all the time we had for this episode. This was papyrus's anti-drug show showing the negative effects of what happens to those who do bad things with drugs."

I love the fact that it shows Chara corrupted and shows Frisk, it literally is a nod to Skid’s corruption as this is where Pump and Skid sing.
Edit: gaster is just there, he isnt corrupted nor created the corruption, he just wanted to sing lol.
On top of that, having Frisk's face still visible through the corruption is a subtle nod to how powerful the emotion of Determination is within the Undertale universe.

I mean, Gaster was already corrupted in the first place
On the one hand, I'm sad that we didn't get to hear Papyrus's unique vocals.
On the other, HOLY SHIT, the REST of the mod. The beyond-phenomenal sprite work. The bits of story intertwined with the animation. The jams. The incorporation of each character's unique theme into the song while still maintaining enough of Deathmatch that the two songs don't overwhelm each other. There's too many things I like in this video.
- The custom "READY, SET, GO!" sprites
- The way Papyrus bounds back and forth when he sings his left and right notes (and the way Corrupted Frisk embodies the same child-like energy, but with a weirdly threatening vibe)
- Sans not really moving so much as leaning, very fitting
- Corrupted Frisk (being taken over by Chara because OF COURSE) gets the bass from Megalo Strike Back at @
- The progression of characters designed to slowly break Papyrus down -- the kicker that Undyne, even in her undying form, was unable to fight against this "Corruption" in the end coupled with Sans being the one to finally bring down the hammer is just a good story no matter how I see it
- Probably just coincidence, but Undyne's got the most technical part of the song because she's the one you play DDR against in the main game
- I didn't think I'd see crying Papyrus outside one of those Disbelief mods, but it works here. (The fact that he keeps jumping from side to side is a little funny to me, too. Dance through the pain, Papyrus)
- Flowey is such a good choice for GF. The way his vines circle around the speakers and how his back-and-forth bouncing is somehow in-character for his general demeanor
In short, a phenomenal job from everyone involved!! Be sure to give the sprite artists in the description some love, too, 'cause this was outstanding!

Considering he still believed in a child that cut his head off, I assume it took until seeing undying corrupted because yea she’s the strongest monster in his eyes, but thats the final monster he had a strong connection with corrupted, he tried to stay happy to help sans and frisk, but seeing the strongest and last close relationship he had fallen into the trap was the end for him

My possible explanation is that frisk/chara are determined enough to not get entirely corrupted, but not strong enough to defeat it / hold it off entirely, kind of stuck in a sort of limbo. It's also entirely possible the corruption is interfering with their save and reset abilities.

the fact frisk isn't fully corrupted makes me think that frisk thinks this is just another route, they think they will be able to reset, but when they try to, that's when they will realize they messed up big time, now only the corruption has that power, and they don't plan on resetting, ever...

This is actually really well made, nice job guys. Also the fact that the character placement makes sense, like Mommy Mearest being Undyne, and Papyrus getting sad when he sees Undyne, the hero who trained him, like this.
Edit: I also love how the instrumental changes. For example, in Chara's part, it switches to the style of Megalo Strike Back, and in Undyne's part, it switches to the style of Battle Against a True Hero.
And at sans' last part you can hear sans singing "the song that might play when you fight sans"

The thing which triggers me is that Papyrus’s bro and his pretty much dad doesn’t make him feel remorse, but Undyne, somebody who trained him does.
Papyrus doesn't know gaster. He was lost through time and space only a few people likes sans know him the others only know he existed because of his accomplishments like the core

If the Human fell to corruption, that human can be saved, it's clearly shown that the human isn't fully corrupted so Papyrus is still confident in his ability to help!
But the fact that Undyne fell to the Corruption? A monster he sees as the strongest around? That's a MORAL blow to him, what chance would the great Papyrus stand if Undyne herself didn't stand a chance, after all?
Undyne is not only the moster who trained papyrus.
Papyrus looks up to her, admires her for him, there is not a single monster stronger than undyne.
That's is why it brokes his will when he saw her corrupted, this thing is no joke, if the monster he admires for her strength couldn't stop this, how could he?
Remember, Papyrus is not aware that Sans has this ridiculous amount of power with him, he doesn't know Gaster, and Frisk is just a human he barely knows by this point.

I know nothin about the FNF corruption mod theme and lore wise, but one thing I DO know is that this is a bop and a half! still, without knowledge, all I'm getting is some disbelief papyrus vibes here, probably due to him having to stand his ground... and try to rap/fight.

The lore of the FNF corruption mod is actually pretty basic, but here's a timeline of events for the people that are not up to date:
GF gets corrupted by lemon demon (i think)
BF gets corrupted too
They fight the spooky kids, pump gets corrupted and skid tried to help him overcome it (it doesn't work and they both get corrupted)
BF finds and fights pico
Pico fights the corruption
BF not wanting to hurt him fights, and reverses the corruption slightly but at the end they both end up getting corrupted
Pico crashes Mommy Mearest's limo
They fight for a long time (this week had 4 songs instead of 2-3 like the others) but at the end M.M. and the henchmen get corrupted
BF enters the weird dating sin where Senpai is at.
BF corrupts the videogame (y'know deleting sprites and glitching everywhere)
S. Spirit tries to forcefully remove BF from his game or at the very least delete them both (he fails)
BF deletes the game data and escapes
Daddy Dearest, being the last survivor tries to stop BF
They both give it their all and D.D. seems to be holding on
BF calls the rest of the corrupted characters and the third song of the week starts (the one this video is based on)
They all gang up on D.D. who still has the *determination* to stop them all, but eventually after finding out that even M.M. has been corrupted D.D. begins losing hope and eventually gets corrupted.
After everyone gets corrupted we cut to inside BF's Mind where he's fighting an "evil" version of himself to stop the corruption (We don't know yet if that "Evil" boyfriend is ACTUALLY evil, since mid song it mentioned "This is not my doing,... Focus on this battle" so there's a theory that its secretly trying to help BF), they both fight the corruption and they seem to be making progress...
That's all for now, the third song of that week is not out yet
at this point there should be an entire Undertale week (I mean everyone already has a theme)

Theory is, Sans takes the place of Boyfriend, Papyrus is the last one to be infected with corruption in the Underground because of his pure heart and ability to reverse his own corruption like the canon Corruption Mod. Meanwhile Flowey might take the spot as the first corrupted character aka Girlfriend in the canon Corruption Mod. Going on to corrupt Frisk when they first fell into the Underground. Gaster not being corrupted could signify that in this universe, he's Monster, and had decided to aid in Papyrus getting corrupted. So why gaster? It would make sense that Gaster would fit as Monster, the being who started all of this, just an alternative timeline where he aids in the corruption during Deathmatch.

Also the key the more I think about it, could be positivity, not exactly happiness. And as far as I know, papyrus is the most positive person in the game.
More to add, papyrus looks worried against undyne, knowing something is wrong, “wait, why is undyne here? Something is wrong” is probably something he might of thought, and at the last turn his sprites are now corrupted and crying, crying because he finally somewhat understands what is going on now and that he can’t stop it.

This is such a great video. In the beginning of the song it sounds almost lighthearted, like papyrus is trying really hard to convince and save sans but he's continuously being mercilessly attacked and his pleas are ignored, so as he gets to frisk/chara and then undyne his strength is starting to dwindle and he's bending to the will of the corruption. When it gets back to sans it's that same lighthearted tune like the beginning, as if papyrus is trying one final time to try and save at least one person that he knows and cares about. Unfortunately he fails and succumbs to the corruption, joining his fallen Friends and family to most likely continue to spread the corruption without a will of his own anymore.
In other words, he's gone now...
The only "Fallen Friend" that isn't also corrupted is Gaster.
Gaster is a Glitch, he cant be corrupted.
