This caused John to be raised by his aunt Mimi, someone more "suitable" by society. One night, after his mother Julia, left Mimi's house after a visit, she was run over by a drunken off duty police officer, and killed, almost right in front of their home. 2 years earlier, when Paul was 14 and John was still 16, Paul's mother died of cancer. This bond of both boys losing their mothers, is what tied the two together subliminally.
Three of the Beatles had absent abs/or dead parents. John essentially lost both as a teenager, although his care had been shifted to his aunt when he was younger. It’s hard to imagine how he wouldn’t have felt unwanted when neither of his parents were parental and then one suddenly was killed.

Hard to say this, and maybe really hard to hear, but it gives you an amazing insight into this song. John Lennon and Paul McCartney both lost their mothers at a young age. But the way they dealt with it was quite different. Whereas Paul would always put on a brave face, John just poured out the emotion. I suspect it was one of their deepest bonds in their musical collaboration in the Beatles, and in their friendship in general. Plus this terrible emotional pain, I suspect, drove both of them deeply into their songwriting and music as a way to attempt to deal with this pain that really never really goes away.

VERY sincere! Lennon shared his journey thru therapies with us on that album. He was big into some of the popular psych therapies of the day, and as he started to let out his pain and frustration he wrote about it and shared it with us. I loved the album as a kid when it came out but my parents (who always “had to” listen to whatever music I was playing upstairs) didn’t like this album much because of his pain and suffering coming thru in a totally dominating way. Today, all these years and decades later, I totally get their reaction to it. But then, we’ve learned so much more about Lennox’s early life and life at that time, that I am now acutely aware what that poor little boy went thru emotionally, and it does in fact CAUSE PAIN. It’s not touching, it’s messy and quite pitiful actually.
Another great analytical video. A song that deserves attention is Mario Lanza's Nessun Dorma. I say this because it's Pavarotti's signature song but Mario Lanza sings it the best. Mario is the king 👑 of tenors 💯

My dad just passed on October 3rd. My mom died when I was 8. My dad was a big Lennon fan. He always said this song made him think of me....
