Even if it too much work the rewards outweigh the trouble. In this part of the world we cover our trees from the sun heat. Our winter temp hovers around 65 F while the summer is around 110 F. Watching your videos from Dubai, UAE. Enjoyed watching the video from different perspective.
Lou, you should make a video of how you root your cuttings, transplant, up pot, and getting them acclimated to the weather. When it comes to figs I value your opinions, techniques and expertise more than any other.
Mary Ann Statham Mary Ann Statham 2 hours ago its good to have you back Lou,iam looking forward to seeing your fig season this year,I like your long videos Lou.our season here is about over,it wasnt very good because of the summer heat without rain, the figs just didnt grow even though I was watering them anyway looking forward to next season. so long Lou.
Very informative. Ive learned alot about growing figs watching your vidoes. Ur definetly one of the best fig growers out there. Thanks for sharing all this knowledge!
Hey Lou, I use lights similar to you on my passionfruit. The first couple years I would turn on the lights myself and the plants never made it through winter because if I missed turning the lights on one or two nights the plants would die back. Then I found a thermostatically controlled plug that connects to the end of an extension cord and when the weather gets down to 35 degrees it turns on automatically and then shuts itself back off at 40 degrees. I got it on Amazon for 12 bucks and it’s worked great for the past two winters. It’s called the thermocube and It’s made a huge difference for me. You might consider giving it a try.
Am so glad to watch your videos! You really did inspire me to get figs!! I have a question? My fig is producing a baby fig but on the same Branch a leaf is forming so should I remove the leaves with the figs on it or should I leave it alone altogether?
Hey Lou! Your videos are amazing!! I just uncovered my figs about two weeks ago and they are not looking good. Anything I should look for to help them out??
Lou, I lost my Peter's Honey two years ago. It was originally purchased from Belleclare nursey on Long Island, where I puschased many of the trees in my collection. as well as the many others I was given by the owner before they closed there doors. Do you have a Peters Honey cutting you might be able to spare or maybe a small one rooted. I miss my Peter's Honey Robert Massapequa NY
That is a very difficult and complex question to answer properly. I could probably write a fairly large book on that subject. I do cover the subject fairly well in some of my other videos, if you care to watch them. A good rule of thumb is to try to stay with proven varieties which have performed consistently well in your growing area. Happy figs! Lou Monti
How do your inground figs survive the winter? I thought they always die back down to the ground, even if I cover them. What's your secret? I live in NW, NY. ,similar weather.
Yes, all of them are exceptionally good for in ground planting. I had a wonderful Texas Everbearer in my Virginia location for 15 years and I liked it very much. Unfortunately, it was planted in a lower spot in my yard and several exceptionally high salt water tides killed it one cold Winter. It was also infected with Nematodes in the latter part of its life. I still have the other two varieties and I intend to replant Texas Everbearer some day. However, providing you have the room, I would highly reccomend adding Celeste, and Peter's Honey for outdoor growing in your location. Both are exceptionally cold hardy, productive, and delicious. Good luck! Lou Monti
Hi Lou!! I kept all my figs in my green house in pots is that ok for those trees. You mention how they are good for the ground but can I keep them in their pots ?
lou rules!! Im taking my figs much more seriously from now on. Going to watch every video with joy!!!!

This is my first time ever owning a fig tree and it’s only producing on one fig is that normal?
Hi Lou, thanks for the video! Which varieties do you have planted in ground that you protect this way?

Are you related to Lou Monti the singer?
I didn't hear. What part of the country are you in? PA?
Lou , what is the make and model of that big tarp on the fig tree? Where did you purchase it and how much ? Thank you for your great videos
I'm sorry, I really don't know. My father gave that one to me years ago. It was huge and I cut it into several large tarps. Take care! Lou Monti

So what happens if you get frost AFTER you unwrap? Oops you answered that. So can you wrap with plastic instead of tarp?
Not recommended.
Wish my poor figs were looking like that😢
