Red Whilst I agree about the psychological and dark theme for the season, it definitely isn’t my favourite. Pace was way too slow and some of the visions of you know who started to piss me off lol. Still a good season and I enjoyed it, but definitely the weakest season with four.
spoiler this season is rather just Tommy Shelby and not the Peaky Blinders. I loved it but i can see why some people didn't like the idea that the family are in the background now and it's just Tommy.
Omar_ Elattar. Hey man, everyone has their opinion. This season was bread and fucking butter to me. Slow pace doesn't bother me any. A change in Tom's motives and thought process, hell yeah! A focus on the PTSD that's been hiding behind Tom's eyes the entirety of the show, oh baby they knocked it out of the park. Plus other stuff I don't want to spoil. A slower pace works well with Tom being a politician, and it makes the action way more impactful. The director said they want Tom to redeem himself by the end of the show. And the director of this season is finishing the show if I read correctly.
Also, I think Tommy had a lot to deal with. He’s the head of the family and has to always plan ahead and think about every move. He does a lot for the family and I think they tend to forget that and just remember the negative moments. It can’t be easy being him. Constantly playing chess and wondering what this move or that move will do. He sees the bigger picture. He wants bigger things. He Has since he was a boy. When he said he use to wonder why his family had to eat bread and lard and not something better.
I remember my great grandmother (she was born in 1908 and died in 2006) telling me they burned their paper money because it was cheaper to burn it than buy firewood with all the money they had to literally cartwheel to the shops. I'm from Germany and we had to pay WW1 reparation during these times and did that by loans from American banks which lost all their money and in turn the entire thing collapsed in germany as well, I think the german government lost like 1 Billion Dollars within 4 days. People were really scared about the great depression in germany because just 6 years earlier there was a hpyerinflation in germany that led to a loaf of bread costing 1 Reichsmark in 1919 to 100 Billion Reichsmark in 1920 ( they literally took a 1 Reichsmark bank note and put a stamp on it saying 100 Billion) and a lot of people starved. It lead to heavy political turmoil just like in England (as shown in earlier season of Peaky Blinders) but the communists in germany got all gunned down by militias full of PTSD ridden WW1 veterans firing artillery guns in the streets of munich and stuff like that. This was also a big factor that helped Hitler because he presented a scapegoat in the jews (they called it the international jewdom of bankers) and communists and in the 1930 elections the NSDAP (Nazi Party) entered the german parliament for the first time with 19% of the votes and just 3 years later they had complete control over the government, newspaper, cinemas and radio. The Nazis claimed the following economic upswing for themselves despite they didn't even do much about it but people back then simply didn't understand anything about world economics ( I guess most people still don't including myself lol) they just realised it got better. The first half of the 20th century was fucking insanity in europe and I guess all over the world.a
I live in the UK. There were no men in white pointy hoods lynching people, which tells me the UK was more progressive on the issue of race than the USA in the 1920s. I mean it was bad but not at the level of the USA. Although, given the things the British Empire was doing at the time, fuelled by racist ideology, my comparison is like saying the UK was the tallest kid in kindergarten.
Yep. There was no widespread Govt.-implemented racist policy of Segregation/Jim Crow laws like in the US, with the lying tagline, "separate but equal". Of course, racism is & was everywhere because there are stupid people everywhere. But, I'd say the US & South Africa took racist governmental legislature to another level.
Plus US birth and marriage certificates actually list the person's race to this day which UK ones do not. The UK is way more divided on class issues rather than race.
@@ulysses1692 Yeah but since they clearly didn't know him, what's the hurry? why not just wait until they finish the show? That's like looking up every single event that took place in Chernobyl just before watching HBOs show about the events that took place in Chernobyl...🤷🏽♂️
i knew as soon as i saw that murder at the end i knew tommy didn't do that, he would never! there was no reason at the point. that doesn't even jive with what we've seen his character do.
In 1929 America picked a random Tuesday and required approximately 62.75% of the population to paint their neighborhoods(Streets, cars, dogs, and children) with black paint. Those who complied with this order received a tax break. Henceforth all the names of the participants were cast in crystal and we the people worship them as previously living gods.
Frames Can Talk it’s the last day of the four day stock market crash in 1929, which basically started the Great Depression. Well it was a big factor that led up to the Great Depression.
Y'all love to shit on Tommy yet without him The Peaky Blinders would've all died 10 times over by now and have all done fcked up shit especially Arthur
Enjoyed your reaction. I watch the full episodes on the BBC then your reaction which is great! " Poetic Licence " here as The UK Black population in 1930 was about One-in100,000 and even in 1960 being a Single Parent carried a social stigma and I grew up in Working Class Inner London and, literally, did not even know about the concept of " Single Parentage" until I was about 16/17 so this " Modern World 1930" does not ring true at all! lol
Britain had already been in economic depression for a few years at this point but writers love assuming everything was golden until the Wall St crash. It wasn't. Wall St didn't cause the Great Depression it just let everyone know it was happening.
Two things: 1. Back in those days, in the UK, being gay was considered a criminal offence with imprisonment and mandatory treatment as punishment. 2. Mosley was an actual historical person. Not going to spoil anything, but he was a bastard and a monster.

*Polly walks* All of them: OMG What a badass!!!!! *Tommy kills 3 people* Cool. Why's the grandma so overrated? I'm genuinely curious. She's weak , She's stupid, telling a priest that they're about to kill a priest. She got Tommy's skull fractured, beat the fuck up and inches away from death due to internal bleeding. She never even tells him it was her fault or apologizes. Then she spends an entire season bitching at him for stepping in a noose for a second. Not to mention Arthur literally hung himself till the rope broke and got over it in one episode.
The cinematography is one of the best thing and the worst thing that ever happened to this show. Or at least this season They kinda focusing too much on it, while the story is mediocre at best.
This is a very psychological and dark season, all about Tommy's mental state crumbling. It is by far the best season IMO.
