    It's really amazing how in music, repetition legitimizes. By the 3rd or 4th bar with the fire alarm, it sounds like it's a part of the music, especially with how the guys changed a couple parts of the music around it.

      So true, all my favorite moments in jazz band occurred when I looked at my band mates before playing something, they responded with something only a twinkle in their eyes and a slight smile, and we procede to laid down a funky groove that gets everyone laughing and the band teach hollerin. Miss those days.

    • @Xychal
      @Xychal 8 месяцев назад +24

      Sometimes I try to not like bands in school because I become a victim. I don’t get why some schools have beef with “band kids” when music is literally one of the best things to ever listen. It gives you that emotion and hype whenever you get into it

    • @MintyLime703
      @MintyLime703 8 месяцев назад +12

      @@Xychal It was the complete opposite when I was in school. I'd guess like 80% of my class was in the band, and it was much the same across both Junior High and High School classes. JH had something around 60 or so members I'd wager, and for my entire time in High School we had well over 100 strong. Our small rural town dwarfed every marching band in the area, both rural and urban. Marching in other local towns felt like a ground invasion. Nobody got picked on for not being in the band, but they definitely missed out.
      Pretty much fell apart ever since though. The OG band director retired, the new ones sucked and nobody wanted to join after that. They had to combine the bands and even then there's like 15 of them. Now they probably do get picked on. The old marching eagles are dead.

    • @kris8569
      @kris8569 8 месяцев назад +7

      @@MintyLime703 like you said you went to a school in a small town. It’s not like that everywhere else lol. In bigger cities most of the time it’s the weird smelly anime kids that were in band. They didn’t get bullied for being in band per se. But when you reek of body odor and Naruto run down the hallways it’s not really helping to prevent you from being bullied lol

    I once saw Sonny Rollins do a similar thing at an outdoor concert on Brown's Island in RVA when a nearby train blew it's whistle for a good twelve seconds... The whole band, in mid-song, abandoned the tempo and collectively went BWHAAAA matching the train's fundamental, and came right back to the tune once the train had passed over the trestle behind the stage. it was a great lesson in improvisation, listening and humor.
