The Georgia State University Jazz Band is joined by the incomparable Tom Scott. Scott is a veteran composer, arranger, producer, musical director, and saxophonist, having earned 3 Grammy Awards and 14 Grammy nominations over four decades.

I’m heavily influenced by Tom Scott. I still play on a Strathon mouthpiece on my tenor and I dabbled with the Lyricon in the early 80’s. I play the Yamaha WX5 now. It’s wonderful that the gentleman loaned Tom his tenor sax to use for whatever reason, but I cringe when I hear Tom trying to hit that altissimo A on Steely Dans’ Gaucho which was the first number with Mr. Scott. It’s easy to hit if you’ve practiced any altissimo at all, but it can be tough when your on an unfamiliar horn. It may even be the reed. I know he has used synthetic reeds forever and this may be a cane reed. With that being said he can blow circles around me and I will never doubt his masterful musicianship. Thanks for posting this. It was very enjoyable

Tom Scott is one of the most iconic American studio sax players ever. And a great friend of music education and jazz education. This is terrific. Great band, too!

Tom is a part of my child and adulthood. Love everything he's done. My dad who played with Hendrix handed me a Tenor and said, okay, your first tune is the theme from Starsky and Hutch. The two players I get so much from are Marc Russo and Tom Scott. Awesome post
