OK video but you missed out a lot of steps. For example how to remove the main board properly. Also, hoe to remove the cables properly too at the start. They are very specific and the sockets can be damaged if they are not open correctly. But thank you anyway.
Just Watched this video to try and clean the mess inside my psp it got nested by ants while it was in a drawer and had no idea how and even the game disk got ants inside it Will it still work?
I am sure most electronics have a system memory. where is that on the motherboard? my psp is bricked and even a pandora battery and magic memory stick won't unbrick it. I can't force the console into recovery mode or anything. I want to completely remove the system memory and restart the thing
What model number is it? Pandora method only works for 1k/2k. Last time I read it's now possible to unbrick every model, even serious hard bricks but you will need to solder a usb serial dongle and run an automated script to manually force a complete low level reflash of the firmware.
@@sjm4306 I have a 2000 model. I used the pandora battery and magic memory stick method and I can't get it to power up outside of the green light. I know the magic stick works. could you explain this new method to me? I may try to force a complete reflash, but I need more info.
I have a few 2k's that do the same thing and also dont work with my pandora batt. In my case they have moisture damage to the components in the power supply section of the pcb. Are you absolutely sure there's no electrical or physical damage to the pcb or the chips on it? It could be that your recovery isn't working because your cpu can never boot due to power circuitry damage or any of the other number of circuitry the cpu needs to work correctly being damaged somehow.
I actually don't know off the top of my head, but a quick google search suggests that it's not a 1:1 swap and would at minimum require cutting plastic if it's possible at all (some parts may just be too different to fit without major modification). Sorry I couldn't give you a definite answer.
Because you skipped how to properly remove the motherboard i broke the part that is seated right next to where the power cable attaches to the mother board

I can never remember how to get that LCD all the way out. Thanks for walking through all the catches that one needs to be aware of for that. The left one is hard to spot and It's tempting to just force it out lol.
I have a psp 2000 with a brand new battery. It comes on with the ac adapter with no problems except it does not charge the battery. And yes it charged when I first bought it but now does not. It is beyond the return policy for the store I bought it from, but I do not think it is the battery. What can I do?
I've found the middle contact, which tells the psp that a legit battery is plugged in, often is pretty flaky and can prevent the psp from recognizing and charging batteries. Try wiggling the battery a bit as you insert it to try and make better contact. If that doesn't work then you will need to open the battery, get access to the contacts and very carefully bend the fingers inwards so they grip the metal contacts in the psp better.
@@sjm4306 it's actually a snug fit for the battery and does not wiggle. Also the battery dinger connectors are in proper position for the pins in the console itself. I am at a loss as the old battery was oversized and was bad so I recycled it months ago.
What I meant is that the metal contact pins inside the battery may be loose. I had the exact same problem with my 2000 and an after market chinese battery and opening the battery and pinching the metal fingers a little tighter fixed it.
Screen comes on on my psp but has lines then goes mostly black , can see color at times but mostly lines. Does this means software or needs a new screen
Yo, great video. I just want to clean up the Dpad so it helped quite a lot. Did you manage to fix the PSP in the end? Worth a try plug in it to a PS3 console and try updating it that way
Depends on what model revision your psp is? I think 1000s had a little daughter board (though it's been years since I've cracked one open) while 2000/3000 are soldered to the mobo.
@@sjm4306 While I had it apart I bent the prongs on the old reader. My son just said it works. Man I'm glad, didn't want to try soldering in the new one. Thanks for the show n tell, it made my job easier
Your video helped me open the psp to check if something was disconnected or cut but unfortunatelly is seems something else is the problem and not the power switch I thought. I will bring to a repair store I guess. I only managed to turn it on for 3 seconds and it turned off
My working 2000 was black but I changed the cracked case to clear blue. In addition I have two other non-working black 2000's that have varying problems. I've always wanted a silver one because they look real slick. In the future I would like to also pick up one of the carnival colored 3000s.
Probably two separate issues. Your battery might be near the end of its life whichwould explain the power and charging issues. Additionally, for the umd drive the laser lens might need cleaning or the laser itself could be burned out and need replacement.
TheLampPlays I ended up getting a Pandora battery, making a magic memory stick and confirming that they work on another psp, but this motherboard still couldn't be revived. My best guess is it has some hardware damage beyond a simple brick. I ended up swapping the motherboard with a good one.
Thanks! I've looked through the instructions and from other sources I've read unfortunately this might not work since I'm pretty sure now that my psp had ofw on it before bricking and thus I have absolutely no access to any sort of recovery menu unless I am misunderstanding something. It looks like the only way to recover an ofw psp is to use a pandora battery to access the service menu and overwrite the flash0.
This is a teardown, without talking to explain step by step how to take it apart safely I'd get the other side complaining how they broke something bc I didn't explain well enough. I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't so I might as well do what I want since this is my channel!
