The 1788 rooms are a bit unnecessary but come on. You can sleep in each room once every 4 years and 328 days. Not only that but hide and seek would be dummy lit.
You need to include Biltmore. It's been turned into a museum, but it's the largest private residence ever built in the United States at around 170,000 square feet.
It is still owned by descendants of George Vanderbilt. At 255 rooms and 178,928 sq ft it is by far the largest house in the US. and it is still privately owned, though it is open to the public. I was there this past weekend for the Christmas Candlelight tour. It is well worth a visit.

@Markus Patients This is true, however if housing was built around ground where the homeless were re-educated to grow their own food and some craft that they can be responsible at it would turn this situation around from where it is today. Once homeless individuals had to be responsible at working for what they get they would feel better about themselves. This is more than half the problem. Homeless feel useless and they don't want to conform to the wicked ways of government controlled business or the private corporate sector where more damaged is created by them then anything else.
@Markus Patients Well at least my thoughts on the matter suggest a possible way to rethink the matters of homelessness. It offers a solution. When people can not offer an intelligent reply or offer a solution or resolve to help people think, and resort to using or writing foolish words, they usually reflect who you are. One person cannot resolve all of mans problems, however, using these comment spaces as a tool to do something positive can help inspire workable solutions. @Markus Patients You obviously can not read and understand what you read. My comment says that I WAS a homeless person. There are many homeless people helping out others despite their situation. That help doesn't always mean taking them into a home. I hope you may grow to a point where you understand and find some kindness in you rather than that of unworthy comments. You have a nice day.
@Markus Patients I will repeat my response, when people can not offer an intelligent reply or offer a solution or resolve to help people think, and resort to using or writing foolish words, they usually reflect who you are. Have a nice day.
I have no idea why anyone would want any of those homes. Unless I am planning on having 10 other families living with me, I see no need of having 11 kitchens in one home. The wealthy just spend because they can not out of need...50 cent is a good example. Had a he bought a modest reasonably priced home, he wouldn't need to file for bankruptcy.
I can see the 20 kitchens... People have to eat. Why not have all your friends and family live near you in a gated community. 50 cent was renting since the beginning and made his money from Dasani and never thought he wouldn't sell for double. I'm sure he didn't go Bankrupt, his team drained his wealth.

You forgot biltmore estate, the largest house in America, with 175,000 square feet of floor space( 4 acres ), 43 bathrooms, 34 bedrooms, and another 173 rooms used for maids, workers, entertainment, and just because, plus it was also built by one of America’s wealthiest family from the past....the Vanderbilt’s which are famous for the breakers, marble house, and many other mansions scattered across the U.S.
I feel blessed to have a 3-bedroom, 2-bath, 2-car-garage home in SWFL. It totals about 1500 square ft. Roomy for one person. Came close to having to give it up when the bills became nearly more than I could handle. Fortunately, I was able to find a bank to give me a HELOC just in the nick of time.
Where I live $500 a month would afford me a time-shared closet inside a condemned house. For $50 more a month I could work up to a 11pm to 7am slot from the 3pm to 11pm slot.
If these rich people had to take care of these homes all by themselves cleaning and painting and yard work, they would think twice before building something so huge. Such a waste of money its so sad, No one needs that much room to live, Who would want to run around a house like that to make sure all the windows and doors were locked at night??? Or how could you sleep in something that huge and feel safe??? Someone could be in the house and you wouldnt even know unless you have a very expensive home security system and guards 24 hours a day to watch over it!

with so many abandoned mansions they should relocate a homeless community and let them fix it up and stay there, many would be happy to mow lawns a place for there pets and gardening, burt Reynolds threw his mansion aside in florida, 5oo people could live there, and raise livestock, which president will give to the poor and homeless. moviestar crumbs will work, burt youre not using it anyway...give it up to the homeless.
the filthy rich are not the pillars of a community. Homeless people are the answer to *what if God was one of us..* the rich and well to do are the real decay of society.
Stop thinking ,"the poor homeless"....people get homeless because they didn't look out for their future. Homeless people are very lazy people as well. They wouldn't clean and maintain the mansions either.
This would never work out.......those who are homeless have no interest in maintaining any residence even if it were their own. The majority of poor people live in squid houses not because they try to maintain them......but because of their mentality.......they simply do not care about the conditions/appearance of where they live. There is a saying.......if a rich person gave his wealth to a group of poor.......within five years, the group would be as poor as before.....and the rich person would again be wealthy. Its mostly a matter of mindset. In my own city, we have entire areas of our county where immigrants (mostly Hispanic) moved in years ago......the area was at that time well kept and neat........a few years after the immigrants moved in, it looked like the worst slum you could ever see in any South American country. These people do not feel comfortable in a clean, well-kept home and community.......it simply does not correspond to their "mindset" of what "home should be.
I grew up in a town that has a mixture of income levels. We had only one high school, so of course, there was pressure to fit in. I use to wish that I could be like those that lived in the big houses. Now that I'm older, me personally, I'm renting a two-bedroom, and it's not enough space for me, but I don't think I desire anything that large, but I have definitely, outgrown my two-bedroom.
Steve Bryan they are hiding the location. It has a huge underground safe haven for top billionaires thats larger than 24 football.fields. Grand scale of your money lost is in excessive of 100 trillion to the fuckers.
Biltmore House (on Biltmore Estate) is 3.65 times larger than the home listed at #10. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biltmore_Estate It's still owned by George Vanderbilt's descendants and is the largest privately-owned home in the United States.
We get it Lisa, you're poor and have been a failure at everything you've ever done. But there's no need to hate on those of us who actually made something or four lives. If anything is shameful, it's your attitude towards that which you could never attain.

Sharon M Biltmore was money from Gripman and Tuttle.through Dresser. It actually was not built by George Washington Vanderbilt,ut was his grandfathers he bought back after losing the Tobacco plantation after the civil war. Cornelia Vanderbilt Cecil was Ethel Gripman's cousin. Lucinda Gripman was a Dresser who was the mother of Ethel and the sister of Cornelia's mom.
A tidbit, My Grandmothers Father was a structural engineer in Chicago with Chicago Bridge and Iron. Chauncey Archibald Tuttle grew up on Yale and became a structural engineer. Moved to Chicago and becames CB&I's asian group leader in the 1920's. He married a Rockefeller, had three sons, she died from Pneumonia in.the 1920's. Then Chauncey remarried a Gripman in.the 1930's after moving to Duluth, MN and had my grandmother. Gripman was the railroad engineerimg family simcr 1785. Owned mostvof San Fran, and Chicago, and many of the railroads in u.s. And was the Asian, European, African, and South American railroad engineers and some.part ownership.
#12 Hala Ranch, Aspen. Little known fact. When that place was originally finished, the had to build two huge reservoirs. They found out that running all the water in Hala Ranch sucked the mountain dry and John Denver and Martina Navratiliva downhill couldnt flush their toilets anymore.
I think it would be kinda creepy coming home at night and not knowing who else is in the house with you.
Its not that bad, U just need to check whose under every bed, all 100 of them
That’s what security is for with that kind of money. A team of Navy seals will having you sleep just fine.
Yeah, but at least one of them would be a Chef, who doesn't want to go home after a night on the lash and have their own Chef?
Surf and turf on call sounds pretty good to me, lol
Yeah but the chances of you running into them are slim LOL.
U so right
Having a lot of money is not the same as having good taste!
Anders Vinther I definitely agree with you on that. A lot of rich people have ugly houses. They’re not like what mansions should be or look like.

well I guess they are doing what Kings and Queens have been doing for centuries...leaving a mark in the world....
Exactly, it's not about needing a giant house, it's about making a statement and stroking the ego.
Thumbs Up Liked and Happy Holidays to you and all your subscribers.
with so many abandoned mansions they should relocate a homeless community and let them fix it up and stay there, many would be happy to mow lawns a place for there pets and gardening, burt Reynolds threw his mansion aside in florida, 5oo people could live there, and raise livestock, which president will give to the poor and homeless. moviestar crumbs will work, burt youre not using it anyway...give it up to the homeless.
the filthy rich are not the pillars of a community.
And who is going to pay for it all?
I grew up in a town that has a mixture of income levels. We had only one high school, so of course, there was pressure to fit in. I use to wish that I could be like those that lived in the big houses. Now that I'm older, me personally, I'm renting a two-bedroom, and it's not enough space for me, but I don't think I desire anything that large, but I have definitely, outgrown my two-bedroom.

to think a king and a queen were guillotined and lost their heads in France for having lived so lavishly in similar mansions!
Hala ranch is probably my favourite out off all of them
What a shameful waste of money and land.
I agree, but the rich man has he's heaven on earth, that is a high price to pay, for the short time on earth.
I don't begrudge them at all. It's their money and their right to do what they want with it.
I'd be content with a $2-5 million house
sevan grigoryan that's a shack in California.
We get it Lisa, you're poor and have been a failure at everything you've ever done. But there's no need to hate on those of us who actually made something or four lives.
If anything is shameful, it's your attitude towards that which you could never attain.
1500 Square feet for a family of 4 and we love it!

What about Biltmore House in Asheville NC, it is billed as the largest private home in the US?

"The One" : Hold my dance floor
Thank you for the great idea, I will have never thought about that.
