Distillation column operating pressure decided according to the following variables. 1. Distillation column pressure is generally decided according to the cold utilities available in the plant. Ex. A component have their boiling point0 degree Celsius at 1atm now in the Overhead condenser you have to use refrigerent for the condensation for A component but we don't have refrigeration unit so we have to increase the column pressure up to 5atm and boiling point of A increase to 40 degree Celsius now we can use cooling water which is easily available in the plant 2. When the boiling point of desire product is higher then the decomposition temperature of the final product at that time we reduce the pressure and so boiling also decrease. We decrease the pressure of the column untill boiling point is not coming down to the decomposition temperature. 3. According to the hot utilities available in the plant.
