Such a talented performer, sadly took his own life in 1990. another good tune, hats off to Larry
do Little town flirt!
I'm sorry, but I never could understand why, when people are celebrating someone accomplishments and enjoying their talents, someone always feels they have to drag up something negative about them. Can't we just appreciate and cherish him for the GOOD he did ???
Del Shannon was said to be one of the nicest performers of the time. He was always so pleasant and courteous of his fans and his fellow performers.
When this record first came out it sounded like something from a different galaxy. Indeed, there's no way that younger people can hear this with the same ears as we had back then. If you like this record, then you'd have to multiply that "like" by 100 to get anywhere near the "like factor" that we felt at the time.
He flawlessly bridged the gap between the sound of the 50's and the British invasion.
A truer statement has never been made. This is a perfect rock and pop record.
I agree, this was something from another world, I remember everyone at school talking about it, here in the U.K the hits by Del just kept coming, hit after hit. Rock on DEL.
I love how you both can appreciate an oldie but goodie’s song. These songs are simple but so much fun and energetic. More oldies please. Maybe try the platters 🎉
My cousin was in his band back in the early days before Del started hitting the charts.
You both are such a great couple and Tasha, I'd love to watch you dance to old songs like this. I'll bet you are awesome at it but you had me laughing 😂😂 ... you're such a character.
I had this on a 45 record when I was a kid :) I've always liked this song!
Loved this great song 60 yrs ago still do. Was so popular it was selling 80,000 copies daily for a few weeks. The cool sound was made by a Musitron an early version of a synthesizer. The 60s were definitely the most upbeat decade for music. The video is really cool.
A great song from my younger days. Thanks you two for doing this one.🤟🤟👍
Here are some great 60s songs:
Gene Pitney - "It Hurts to Be In Love"
The Clovers - "Love Potion #9"
Jay & The Americans - "Come A Little Bit Closer"
R.B. Greaves - "Take A Letter, Maria"
Shocking Blue - "Venus"
The Hollies - "Bus Stop"
All time great songs from that era!
Tasha, you would have been a natural on the old American Bandstand, hosted by Dick Clark back in Philly in 1961.
Love when you go back to the 60’s. Best music and memories
Trisha, I love the way you get into the music. You groove so well.
Yes. His song Hats off to Larry.
This song is so fun. Not for him, but for us to listen to. Tasha knows.
Oh WOW! This brought back a lot of good memories. I saw Del Shannon at the first concert I ever attended. It was the early 60s and I was a very young teenager. (I still can't believe my parents allowed me to go.) I remember being so excited while waiting in line to get into our seats in the FIRST row!! There were probably about 300 or so screaming teens in the audience who sung every word to every song performed. I still have his autograph (!) in a box of memorabilia from that time - Bobby Rydell's autograph, too! They put on a great show - such talent! Great reaction!
Other good songs by him are "Little Town Flirt" and "Hat's Off to Larry."
You guy's need to check out Gene Pitney, he's from this era. My fav of his is Town Without Pity.
"He's a Rebel" by Pitney.
@@brandonflorida1092 She's a Rebel. He's a Rebel is by The Crystals
@@chitownlee Sorry, I had a momentary coffee deficiency. Pitney wrote "He's a Rebel." He didn't perform it. You probably know that whole story about how Phil Spector gave the Crystals credit even though they were out of town when it was recorded.
@brandonflorida1092 either way it's a great song. 😃
My favorite Gene Pitney is "24 Hours From Tulsa". I love stories.
I remember this song playing on my Grandfather's radio, about 7,000 times a day. I know every bit of it from memory to this day.
Another great song like this is "I Fought The Law" by the Bobby Fuller Four
When I think of oldies, these are the type of songs I think of. Del Shannon and this song is a classic and one of the best.
I love you guys. I'm a guitar player living in the woods. I love all of your reactions. I know you would like, "Ain't wasting time no more."
Oh yea. Great song
Del had the first synthesizer in rock, a gadget called the musitron, played by Max Crook. Del had a bunch of hits but people could not get enough of that sound. Then people began to get all they could handle of that sound from a band called the Beatles who could be described as 4 Del Shannons. They toured England with Del in their early days. Del had a hit with one of their songs before they did "From Me To You". Del was the first big preview of the British invasion, 3 years before The Beatles hit in the USA. HERE ARE 2 GREAT DEL SHANNON SONGS TO REACT TO : 1. - "So Long, Baby" and2. - "Handy Man". Both these are vastly different but with that special style.
It's sad for a guy that had such a great career would end up committing suicide.
Damn
There were such wild stories about it too. I heard one that he committed suicide because the Traveling Wilburys didn't want him to join after Roy Orbison died. Really crazy stuff. It's a shame because he was a very talented singer.
I’ve known people that I worked with for thirty years that killed themselves. One guy has an issue with alcohol, and that issue led to a much bigger occurrence, one that he couldn’t cope with. And he did it right in front of his family. Everyone needs pals. Someone to help them cope with things. Nothing is that bad.
Your dancing had me smiling the whole time. Lol
The high pitched keyboard(?) interlude in the middle was played on a "Musitron", which was an early form of electronic synthesizer.
Great song used in the tv show crime story
My Mom passed suddenly on February 15th 2020. Once when I was around 6 or 7 I had had a really bad day at school, she sat me on the stairs, put this song on and disappeared into the kitchen. She came back with a wooden spoon in her hand and she lip synced this song and we ended up just dancing and singing. She was amazing and I miss her everyday. ❤😢
You need to listen to Bill Haley and the comets, Rock around the clock. This is the song that started it all.
I grew up in the late ‘50s to the early ‘70s and I can only say ‘what a time to be alive’ even though I went through the southeast Asian conflict. It warms my heart to no end to see younger generations listening and reacting to the music from these eras. 😁
There are literally dozens of videos on RUclips of Del performing this live that would be infinitely better than playing the record.
But, thanks for remembering it
What a classic; this came out a decade before I was even born and I can’t hear it without singing; another timeless one❤
This song is so hauntingly dark! This song sounds like something I would hear in the middle of a ghost story.
This was the first record I ever bought with my pocket money, in 1961 when I was 8 years old. I wasn't disappointed with it.
This is a timeless classic. All killer, no filler. 😄
I was a decent musician in my day... Kind of semi-famous... Anyway, I got to hear a lot of things that I was so fortunate to hear from places a lot of people don't get to... Told my kids lately. I'm in love with the tones... For years I couldn't figure out how come so much modern music didn't work for me, but I have finally realized it's because of the tones... Listen to what came out of the Quonset hut in Nashville... Old vinyl... Things like this one... Great choice. You guys... Keep up the good work. I enjoy you so much.
. .
Where would we know you from?
@@chitownlee Oh Lee I just bumped around...maybe not semi Famous even but i really did get to hear some very cool things I will forever be grateful for.

Guy her plays synthesizer solo actually inventor of that musical sound, unique in its time.
Boy, I couldnt take my eyes off Tasha ! She's sooo cute, man. She gets so into the music, dancing and all . Adorable. If you ever wanna "Runaway", just head on over here, darlin' . = )
Del Shannon what a great singer . He had some great hits like Hats of to Larry and Follow the sun . Love hearing the old stuff its the best . Can you react to THE PLATTERS , The song is called ONLY YOU . Thanks John . I love your reactions ..
Del was a massive influence on the British artists that would later bring their version of rock music to America.
Great music , all that needs to be said.
I picture Big John Milner's rod cruising the streets of Modesto. Long live rock'n roll!
In the time between when Elvis went into the army and the Beatles invasion, Del Shannon and Gary US Bonds and Freddy Boom Boom Cannon kept hard rocking songs alive while the corporate goons kept pushing talentless "teen idol" singers onto the public.
I went through 1955-1980 and noticed after Buddy Holly death, music was bland for awhile until 1963 it started to pick up and 1964 was loaded and it never stopped each year after. There were a few good songs like runaway during '60-62, but not much else.
I was 15 when this song came out and both in love and fearful of losing her. It's amazing but this song still cuts me to this day.
That was my favorite song when I was little, back in the projects, this same version. I liked Elvis' version too in the early 70's. But this one is special personally to me. Good memories then.
Thanks!
Fantastic reaction to one of the great old legend's a young gentleman taking RUclips by storm is ren -hi ren this video has had 3 million views in 2 weeks and it is pure genius worth a look and at the end has a great message many thanks love and respect from the UK 👍👍👍👍👍👍🌟😀😀 amazing channel 👍
This was a great example of the explosion of melodic rock n roll sorrily missed of late ...
The dancing was perfection.
Love your passion for SUPER TALENT. LOVED DEL & MISS HIM. He was to be the next Travelim Wilbury after the death of Roy Orbison. Medication caused his death. He had many HITS here The best on Big Top Record Label - Runaway, Hats off to Larry, Searching ( Follow The Sun) Little Town Flirt, So Long Baby ( Be on your way) Hey Little Girl Handyman, Swiss Maid, Wrote I go to pieces - Peter & Gordon #1 HIT. ICON in THE UK. R.I.P. DEL ( Charles)
Love Tasha doing the 60s dances.
Hey Ken from TEXAS. BRINGS BACK MY 60S HIGH SCHOOL DAYS
such a fun song! been years.....loved your reaction...thank you
Would love for you guys to check out Image Of A Girl by The Safaries. One of my all time favorite songs from the early 60s.
Here's a suggestion, Here Comes the Night by them cool song for that time
You mentioned the saddle shoes and poodle skirts. You should have seen what it took to cold starch the ‘can cans’ that went under them! Love your reaction!
Legendary cool tune with fantastic vocals!
Tasha you are a great chair dancer.
Del Shannon, the last time I remember seeing him perform was on the David Letterman show. He was still good. The next thing I knew, I read in the paper he was gone. He took his own life, shot himself in the head with a 22 caliber rifle. So sad. Anyway, I wish you would consider doing some songs from the Platters. I remember as a child listening to them on the Jukebox. They had a Tenor in the group that had an angelic voice
Love love this song
Loved It!!!
i came so close to being able to see his very last concert which he played at our city but i was unable to make it at the last minute then heard the tragic news not that long after
If you ever watched "American Grafitti" then that's probably where you heard it. It certainly was part of the soundtrack of my early teen years.
From this era, "That's Old Fashioned" by the Everly Brothers
His falsetto is very much like Frankie Valley of the Four Seasons and of course they were of the same era.
This song always reminded me of Lost in Space....
Great song. The live version on 45 he slows it down just a fraction and it's great as well.
I'm old, but this is before my time. 🤣
Runaway was in American Graffiti…The best!
This new going to the dusties ....If anything I would do early Isely Brothers Twist and Shout. Carl Perkins Blue Suede Shoes. I dont k ow who sings it but Duke of Earl. I adore you by Frankie Vali. Anything from the Beach Boys. There are many kne hit wonders back in that era. Hey Mr. Postman by the Sherelles. Leader of the Pack
Those black and white shoes were called saddle oxfords.
I wore those Saddle shoes). In the 50's when this song was a hit. Or I thought it came out like in 59.
The theme song to crime story, one of my favorite 80s tv shows. He did an updated version for the show. If you get the chance check it out. Much better than original
The chords that really made the song in 1961, was a g, e, g and a.
Sad truth Del Shannon ended his own life by a self inflicted gunshot to the head in 1990.
Tasha, you could of been a gogo dancer back then. Ahahaha. You had a blast, this may be the most likeable songs ever. Apparently so, sold 80000 copies a day for weeks. Keep up the good work Dynamic Duo
I Wa Wa Wa Wa Wonder Why? Why? Why?
my two older sisters loved del shannon in 1962 or so. they both had these little pocket japanese size cigarette pack transistor radios. it was the latest in miami. my father loved
to tease them with the detroit song "tell him he's the one" with "tell him he's a WOP" (with out papers). my father spent 6 yrs overseas in WWII so knew about italians and wops. my
sisters furiously corrected him each time w "tell he's the one" and my father would of course respond "tell he's a wop" (a loser italian surrender monkey). anyway, it was all funny.
Definitely check out the original version of the classic doo wop song "Pretty Little Angel Eyes" from 1961 by Curtis Lee backed up by the Halo's.
Hats of to Larry one my favorites song
Del Shannon commited suicide because he could not escape this song. He wanted to be known for all of his work and talent, but this one work of his became stuck to him like glue, as his signature. He tried for years to escape it, to no avail.
We wore this 45 out in the Jukebox at Dell's Hoagie Shop in Philly. Drop in a nickel and push J3.
So sad. The Traveling Wilburys wanted him to come record with them in the 90s and for some expected reason, he killed himslef.
May I suggest The Drifters - Under The Boardwalk
The version they re-recorded for the tv series Crime Story is a much punchier version, try that one.
Hats off to larry
Hey I like haw she is doing the jerk. Twist and the swim in her seat!
In honor of Black History month you guys should do a song BlackPearl. Sung by Sonny Charles and the Checkmates.
believe it or not Del said the song was about himself and that is not really an organ you hear on here it has another name but can't think of it right now
He was actually a nice and talented entertainer. And gone too soon.
Who was playing the organ?..great musician.
El pasito del caballo
That's called "falsetto" - when a voice goes too high for its natural range. It's an opera term.
Organ solo, great!
There isn't a whole lot of Del Shannon songs that I don't like, in my opinion he was better than Elvis! He has great later stuff too on his Drop Down and Get Me album from 1981, but early stuff Two Kinds of Teardrops, Little Town Flirt, Cry Myself to Sleep, Answer to Everything, That's the way love is, there are many I think you two will be big fans, he's great!
Good tune but Bonnie Raitt's cover is way way better
He must have been a troubled man to take his own life. Very sad.
The cult
was the theme on crime story
Maybe the best version was the intro from the 1980's TV series Crime story..
written at the hi lo club in battle creek michigan
Wow wow, loving you loving my old music from the day. Said it before, you two are just a gorgeous couple. Love from Australia 🇦🇺
