Well, thank you. I need this for my bachelor thesis and struggled with this topic because every other video only talked about eigenvectors and such stuff, which highly confused me. But your Video is precisely what I needed to see, and you also explained your Excel sheet really well. This is excellent work, keep it up.
Nice, you talked point to point. I didn't found any other video with such brief and effective explanation. I have seen other video of more than 30 minutes but still was not able to understand AHP. But now I do. Thanks!
Mantap bro.. nambah wawsan dan bermanfaat. di video saya tentang AHP pakek superdecision jugak. Mulai dari konsep, contoh kasus dan penerapan aplikasi...
Thank you, Dr. Cochrane, for the explantion of AHP in this video is highly informative. Could you please advise on how to aggregate pairwise comparisons from multiple experts? Many Thanks!
With multiple experts, I have each of them complete the AHP analysis individually in a spreadsheet. I then add each of these spreadsheets as tabs (worksheets) in a separate spreadsheet that collects each participant's scores and rolls them up on a separate worksheet. I then calculate the median, mean and standard deviation for each set of scores. The median score is probably a better representation of where the group is with respect to the comparison. I then meet with the group and feed back the aggregate scores, which are then discussed until the group reaches a consensus. If you send me an email at valuefunction@gmail.com I can send you the spreadsheets I used.
Dear Dr. Cochrane, thank you for the clear explanation of the AHP method. I am currently writing up my thesis proposal, and I am looking for a method to prioritize innovations within a municipal program. I was wondering whether you could help me out a little. So, the overall question of the municipality is how to know which innovations are truly needed so that we can prioritize them. I, therefore, was thinking to use the AHP method. The program in place has a hierarchical structure: the program has a clear focus and knows several criteria (with corresponding sub-criteria) for which relative importance could be compared. The alternatives would be the proposed innovations for the municipality to invest in. My question to you is whether you believe the AHP method is suitable for comparing to be developed innovations amongst each other? My main question is actually if you believe judgments can be made on the relative contributions of to be developed innovations to the (sub-)criteria which are drawn up in the program? It is just that I believe this method would be very suitable for depicting the weights of different criteria innovations have to take into account, but I find it hard to see if the method allows me to rank different innovations. I found a paper by Danesh, Ryan & Abbasi (2015) - Using analytical hierarchy process as a decision-making tool in project portfolio management - in which they show projects can be ranked based on their relative contributions to criteria. I hope you can help me out a little bit here. Kind regards from The Netherlands, Jochum
AHP is typically used in a Multi-Criterion Decision Analysis (MCDA) or Multi-Objective Decision Analysis (MODA) modeling exercise. You would be working with your decision maker and use the AHP to assess the weights of objectives within a hierarchy of the model. The finished model is then used to score or evaluate the items to be ranked. You don't use AHP to score the items directly, but you would use it to determine which objectives in your model carry the greatest weight in the scoring process. Regards, M.F. Cochrane
@@mfcoch Thank you for answering my question, this makes it more clear for me! Then I believe the finished model will fit indeed to rank (prioritize) innovations :).
Several of you have attempted to post comments on this RUclips page - they have reached me via email but because they haven't shown up here, I can't reply to you. If that's the case, you can always reach me via email at valuefunction@gmail.com.
Hello Mahima. The purpose of the AHP is to generate a vector of values which represent the priorities. The check for transitivity is done by performing a consistency check which computes a consistency index (based on the eigenvector size, n) and then divide this index by a Random Index value to compute a consistency ratio. This ratio should ideally be less than 0.1 for a consistency check.
There wasn't a survey involved in this decision analysis. It was simply an example showing how a decision-maker's pairwise value comparison of a set of items can result in a mathematical score that reflects the relative value of each item on a ratio scale.
Dr Cochrane I am bit confused with your AHP priority calculation. The priority of each gap should be obtained by finding the normalised eign vector. How it can be obtained using just a simple algebraic sum? for an approximate Eigen vector the row vector should be multiplied and raised to 7th root and then normalised.
Thanks. I observed recently that some people use this approximate method. However, I prefer to use Eigen vector method as this method provides a deeper understanding of the AHP method. Thanks for your quick reply.
hi! thanks for the explanations. im working on my thesis now and my topic is about "Evaluating factory layout to enhance productivity" and I planned to use AHP method. can you tell me where is your reference came from? i need it to complete my thesis. Thanks!
Any of Thomas Saaty's books on AHP would be a good reference. A good one is "Fundamentals of Decision Making and Priority Theory With The Analytic Hierarchy Process"(vol. 6 in the AHP series). Another recent article is here: www.colorado.edu/geography/leyk/geog_5113/readings/saaty_2008.pdf
Sorry, but you'll have to clarify exactly what you're asking. The basic AHP pairwise comparison is designed to achieve a ratio-scale ranking among a (limited) number of items. Most often, it is used to assign weights to sub-objectives in a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) model.
I have not used Fuzzy AHP. There are plenty of resources available, however, that explain its use using examples and compare it to classical AHP. Here is one Masters Thesis that does just that: digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1013&context=imsediss A short RUclips explanation can be found here: ruclips.net/video/Umwsv7tQFLA/видео.html

I have some questions, what if the intensity values between i and j are equal.
What values should I fill in the file?
If i and j are of equal value, the intensity of value should be 1
Hello Sir. Did you already have the priorities or you assigned them randomly ? Because if you did, should you have followed the transitivity rule
