At our school we had a few fellas flush down a large rock, ended up shattering the damned toilet(the principle at our 300 student middle school had a few words that lunch).
My favorite male (HS) teacher taught psychology. He was relatively young, married, and had a 2 yr old, so it was like having the cool dad teaching the class. Once every week or two, he’d let us just chill, so my friends and I used to play Rummy 500. Best class ever! 😁
I had a good range of male teachers. My freshman year of high school, my Algebra 101 class was taught by the male football coach. He was one of the old-school "here's six ways to do it, I don't care which one you use as long as it makes sense and you can repeat the result." He had to drop the class halfway through the first semester, and we got passed over to a female teacher who'd been teaching only calculus for the previous 12 years. She wasn't used to having to explain basic Algebra, and would approach the lessons like they were refreshers for her calculus students. I wound up so stressed out that I flubked everything but PE that semester and got put in an independent study program instead so I could work at my own pace. Wound up going to summer school in order to scrape a C- in Algebra, and did all my remaining math credits as electives like bookkeeping and recordkeeping. Found out years later that half my problem was undiagnosed dyscalculia, and if I'd had better support I might not have had half the problems.
I feel for the female Calculus teacher. As a male high school teacher who is currently teaching three sections of AP Calculus, I get nervous about trying to teach when asked to cover for A1 for this exact reason. It is hard to confidently help students when you do all the Algebra by hand but they need to know the "do it in the non-AP-approved calculator" tricks.
