I was startled when Mr Brett brought up Faure's beautiful "Requiem". It is my favorite of all requiems ever composed...so lovely, so deeply passionate and mysterious...you see, I played my own disc of it for my own beloved after he died, hoping he could hear it in Heaven. God bless the sweet and glorious memory of the magnificent Mr Jeremy Brett. He was exquisite. He was a beautiful force of nature. He....made the air move. Oh, I miss him!😢

What a charismatic and engaging man. I only know him from the Sherlock Holmes series and a couple other recorded performances, all of which were excellent. It's clear that he put everything he had into his craft and strove to do honor to the material and his audiences. He was also an excellent singer. I wish that I had a chance to see him perform in a play - his stage presence must have been mesmerizing.

Jeremy underlines the fact that the 60s & 70s were indeed the most amazing times in the arts - possibly the greatest in the last 100 years. Hopefully, when this present pandemic subsides, we shall see a flourishing and re-birth of the arts. 2021 could be the beginning of a new age. This programme was a joy to listen to.

In a way it almost doesn't matter that Jeremy Brett was so complicated, because he is Holmes to many of us. I am amazed and grateful that he was so invested in the character of Holmes that many of us can envision no other in the part. He was a man of talent, possibly robbed of the success he deserved in MFL and other roles, until later in life. I am forever a fan. ETA Joan, as a part of WGBH definitely was an influence on my early life (masterpiece theatre) which probably led me to my love of Brett and Sherlock.

Absolutely technically the best. He promised Conan Doyles niece he would stay as close to the text as possible, to the point of upending a restaurant table when confronted with a wooden headed director (my personal favorite JB story “Dover Sole went everywhere!”)

Perhaps, but I believe he made a choice to emphasize the good in the world at that time. Despite the challenges and tragedies that he dealt with in his life, he still demonstrated a great hunger for enjoying it to the fullest. In the same way he spoke about his wife, Joan, we won't see the likes of him again. Nevertheless we can still enjoy his legacy even in these troubled times.
