Grew up in the shadows of the Mountains in my state and spent countless days in my youth camping, fishing, and hiking all over in my favorite canyon. The canyon entrance was only five minutes away from my home by car, but provided immediate relief from summer heat and more importantly an endless opportunity of exploring with friends and cousins around my age.
As I got older, I still did a little fishing and camping, but focused more and more on exploring the interconnected trails that brought me encounters with elk, moose, deer, and just one time with a cougar who was standing on a buck my brother had shot. I can’t forget that moment emerging out of the trees to be face to face with a grown cougar who seemed to sense that we were tracking the animal he had claimed. The cougar was chased away, we risked our neck because I didn’t want to shoot this magnificent animal and we sort of improvised with yelling, rocks near the animal, and making ourselves appear bigger while both holding loaded guns. Kind of a moment of wills, but a bit dangerous in more mature hindsight. But the cougar is just a side note.
In my 30’s I started hiking a trail that was near the canyon’s primary fishing reservoir, because I enjoyed the seclusion, the physicality and the view on top was unbelievable. In all my years hiking I can only identify this trail as a moment where i experienced something strange. Of course listening to Rusty forced me to comb through memories of anything odd, similar in any way to themes in these disappearances.
The hike itself began in a heavily visited campground just above the reservoir. I normally had a partner, but this time just my Ridgeback, backpack filled with emergencies for most foreseen problems, and cellphone and loaded 9mm and .22 handguns. I couldn’t hike without a loaded gun after the cougar.
If you’ve raised a dog from puppy, you will understand when I say I recognized my dog acting bizarrely about halfway up the strenuous climb. He was agitated, growling, and completely different than I’ve ever seen him. The trail is a continual zig zag of switchbacks due to a massive elevation climb. On one of those blind switchbacks a man who looked completely out of place, no backpack, dressed wrong for a hike, appeared out of nowhere and sent my dog into a frenzy, the dog normally loved all people and was accustomed to encountering all types of people on hikes. I immediately reacted and turned slightly so the gun on my hip was visible, and this man suddenly moved by quickly without responding to my measured pleasantries and I noticed a large knife tucked in the small of his back as he moved by. He had been sitting on the blind area and was waiting. I realized then how evident it is on a whole different level to recognize someone looking to do you harm. I’m glad I was observant and prepared.
Now, the strangest part of all occurred when we made it to the very top that day. I didn’t mention the top of the mountain offered a massive boulder field, with huge granite boulders, some as massive as a trailer that provided a nice place to climb, lay down, and enjoy the warmth from the boulder and the view. However, as my dog and I entered the boulder field a strange sense of agitation and anticipation started to build. I could hear a small herd of deer tromping and crashing through aspens, but staring and using binoculars revealed nothing. And then this cloud of silence enveloped that boulder field, where sound seemed sucked away, the sun had lost its luster, and even moving was more difficult. My dog who never leaves my side was suddenly gone and the intensity of this stressful moment grew and I kept thinking about the guy on the trail for some reason. I noticed how much darker it seemed to get by the moment and I couldn’t tell you how long this impending dread lasted, except for saying too long.
I knelt down and was more aware of the slightest rustle than ever in my life, while my eyes strained to see anything in this darkened stillness.
In an instant the sun returned, the sounds of an active forest, my dog, and an immediate u-turn as fast as we could down the mountain and back to my truck. I never hiked that trail again.
Just last month, I believe on Halloween or the day prior I saw online that a younger man 20,s or early 30’s had gone missing on that exact trail. He was someone in phenomenal shape, a trail runner, and usually extremely prepared for all conditions on the trail. He was looking to trail run the top 100 peaks in the state and this peak was close to his 85th. He was no rookie. He had the same number and gender of children I had when I had my final hike on this trail. And he literally had disappeared on what is an impossible trail to lose your direction on a single up and down that maintains your view to a busy campground and reservoir below. Now, once you’re on top and through the boulders, you can go many different directions, but the article read that he was just planning on an up and down. I believe there was initial weather (snow) that made the search a bit more difficult.
They found the man about a week later deceased and never disclosed too many details. I can’t help but believing he was somewhere in that same boulder field as I was years back. I feel badly for his young wife and children.
Sorry for the novel. Be safe everyone!

Celeste Nova: improbably should never hike then cuz I’m always tempted TO hike alone. For many reasons. Not least of which is the solitude and the ability to experience the beauty of nature by myself without anyone seeing how it affects me. Sound a weird I know but I’m self conscious. Lol

tall32guy hi..I can totally understand how you would like to hike alone, not a lame excuse at all. I guess you have to be prepared as much as you can beforehand. There are cases where first in the line and last person in the line have disappeared, so no rhyme or reason for this. I think one guy went missing when hiking up a hill with a hundred other people, gulp! Personally though I would definitely go with others, if only for having an accident like twisting my foot and not being able to walk or something similar. Take care👍.

Celeste Nova: I hate the idea of someone being with me and waiting on the trail while I go off it to go to the bathroom. Lol. That’s another reason I want to go alone. But... as you said, gotta consider the pros and cons and decide whether worth the risk

Sorry you were laid off today, that's just shitty. I hope there are other possibilities for you work-wise? There's definitely a light at the end of the tunnel, even though you might not be able to see it yet, it's there. This could be the beginning of something far better for you. If you can, determine what you really want to do now. Think about the steps you have to take to do it, and decide that it can and will happen. If you do that, and put the time and effort into it that it takes, you'll find that you're where you want to be. We play a part in how things go in our lives, and we can make things happen for ourselves, even if we lack the means necessary to do so when we initially start really working toward getting where we want to be. Sending positive thoughts your way, and hope that things will improve for you as soon as possible.

All of these disappearances keep making me think of that movie “The Endless”. I watched it on Netflix recently and people go missing in the woods and they find out they get stuck in these time loops created by some otherworldly entity for its entertainment all around the Park 🏞. It’s a very interesting movie. Fictional of course, but it does sound like some of these real life accounts of seeing areas in the woods that look “off.”

Imo searches should be focused underground , or cavernous areas after all efforts on land and water are exhausted.I cant think of anywhere else they could go.. most missing 411 cases point to abduction. So imo whatever is taking these people are going either up and out or down under. Its baffling , and not normal for someone to completely vanish off a trail like that. Especially when you consider age and distance some of these people could or would travel before they become exhausted and stop to take a break ect. Bottom line is these people should be found it's almost unrealistic for them not to be. Something strange and not normal is going on.

Just discovered your channel and since I enjoy watching videos like this I subscribed. I’m sure other have said this but I believe many of these disappearances are due to accidents such as falls , suicides and maybe people who decide to ditch their old lives for a new one. However, I think the ones where bodies are found with injuries inconsistent with where the body was found, bodies found without shoes and where bodies are found in locations that had previously been searched are likely victims of murder.

Great video, Rusty. It's noble of you to create these videos and bring light to these cases. These videos are also a warning to campers, hunters and hikers as to what could go wrong and to be extremely prepared.
On another note, Jon Parsons' case really struck me and I found it heartbreaking. My instant gut feeling is that he met with foul play. It's not common for people to just go missing in that area. His dentures and social pensioner's card were found, but no body. That's a huge tip off right there. How is it that his dentures were found, but no body near them. In the chance that Parsons had a fall, slipped or met with an accident, his dentures would not be found on the trail. They would still be in his mouth and found when or if his body is found. And wouldn't his card still be in his wallet? Why is it randomly found on the ground? I think someone probably robbed him and took his life. They likely took everything they thought they could sell off him, but then while leaving the park realized they couldn't sell the dentures or card, and discarded those items. I wonder if the police have investigated that scenario?

    (1) shoes n clothes left behind folded /together (they were resting or sitting still and something got them as in big foot they're real )
    (2) the ones who were all found at the bottom of a cliff with no shoes or belongings (they were killed and robbed by people living there. They needed the belongings and don't want you to let anyone know that they are there. )
(3)some go to end their life.
(4)some just get lost and substain wounds. If the elements don't kill them starvation or animals will.
    (5)some are a victim of a murder.
    (6) I have not ruled out UFOs yet I can't connect them to this tho myself. Nevertheless... They also are real.

I wonder how many of these cases are due to hiker overconfidence? Do ya think some of these hikers felt that they were such experienced hikers that they could get themselves out of an unexpected situation so they decide to take a chance and venture way too far out or in areas that are sketchy or not explored or traveled through ever? Sometimes our curiosity can be our biggest weakness and cause some of our biggest mistakes. • @michellesartori7601
    @michellesartori7601 5 лет назад +1

Living in a National Park myself, the only advice I would give these people is NEVER hike alone! Never be first or last and always tell someone where you're going. Make sure you have food and water with you and an emergency blanket. Make sure your cell phone is charged and get a locator beacon from the police or sheriffs department if outside Australia. Tell people you trust WHEN you're expected back and carry a spare cell phone battery as well. Because of these stories and the strange circumstances around WHERE these missing people ACTUALLY GO and WHO or WHAT takes them,I forbid my adult children and grandson from going anywhere into the bush without those must do's being done. Yes there are Yowies and Bigfoot in the wilds, but there are other things as well that bother me more. David Paulidies has opened my mind up to scenarios that no mother or grandmother should have to think about. My heart truly aches for these families who suffer daily, sometimes for decades, waiting for an answer and a body that never comes. TY for bringing these cases to our attention!
