Here is prime example Prestwick St Nicklaus is £80 quid a round, actually quiet reasonable okay?? well next year they are doubling green fees to £160 a round why you ask? foreign visitors aren't playing it because they look at the courses around that area like Troon and Prestwick and Turnberry then see st Niclause is as cheap and say oh that must be rubbish then, In fact it is a very good course. Kings barn £400 a round now? yes there are cheaper courses you can play but lets be honest as a golfer you want the experience of playing these great courses. when does it stop? £1000 a round?

A few years ago there was a massive fan backlash against Guy for dismissing Petes attempt to qualify for the Open. Pete had a better chance than Rick does! But now Guy is in favour of Rick attempting to qualify by framing it as a 'break 75'. If all Rick wants to do is break 75, perhaps he can play the courses on days when there is no competition. The whole conceit of break 75 is a bit meaningless anyway. It doesn't matter if he 'breaks 75' or not.

Maybe I am in the minority on this but do not care if the 'best" players play the majors. LIV players made their choice and they should have to live with the consequences and if that means missing majors so be it. They need to quit their whining about it.

Wasn’t until air travel was easy and cheap that the best could even play all the majors. LIV players left for the money, period. Really surprised about Guy thinking golf is not expensive. Here’s just two examples of how much green fees have gone up. Course A used to be $35 with cart, but now they want $110. But hey they’re throwing in the cart. Wow! Course B is even crazier, whereas $50 with cart is now almost $300. Unfortunately it’s driven by demand and all the courses charge whatever they can. LIV friendly is now a term lol. I’m actually watching LIV more these days just because it’s more like Ryder cup and you get your individual fix as well. In all sports there are one thing that makes a difference between very good and exceptional...BMT! In RUclips golf I would use the Bryan Bros as an example. George is very good and one can almost think George is the better golfer...but when it matters and when the pressure is on, it's Wesley to rises and George that folds...that is the difference BMT makes.
I play 3 times a week with a set of clubs that costed $50 including bag. I don't wear golf shoes or a glove. I bought a sleeve of Titles Pro v1 I also bought a ball scoop for $6 off Ebay now I have over 1000 Pro v1's thanks to every1 who hit them in the river for my kids to find and I play off 7 so the game can be cheap 🙂.
Rick's game is an insult to course architects everywhere. He thinks he'll blast driver, laser the flag, shoot at flag, drain a 4' putt for 54 on every course he plays. In all the years I have watched I have never once heard him say "I'll hit 3W then aim at middle of the green and two-puty." Nope. Good luck breaking 90.
Distance is great but consistency and accuracy are better. I believe if you can develop consistency and accuracy, you can increase distance with slow modifications without compromising your accuracy..
My favourite early content of Rick and Pete was the creation of content around PGA events and Open Qualifying. Looking forward to the content and break 75 as a sub plot is genius.
Thousands of people try to qualify just like thousands run in marathons. Most realize they won't win. In the marathon it is an absolute fact that Rick could not win. In the qualifier, there could always be the smallest possibility of a dream round. Feeling the excitement, anxiousness, fear, hope, would definitely be an experience. I am absolutely terrible at golf, but I would love to play in an event with thousands of people watching. Why not? It would be terrifying in such a fun way.
I like Rick's demeanor, honesty, excitement. Trying to qualify for a venue like this can take you out of your comfort zone, and forget the basics real fast. It truly is " just golf ", but the 15th club in the bag, your mindset / attitude, has to be clicking in a positive way. Play well !!!
In regard to the distance chat, it is now more important than ever for a "normal" golfer to get into the speed race with proper training. I'm 47 and play interclub here in NZ. I'm currently playing off a 6 - 7 handicap. As you move through the handicap range and play different grades it is very noticeable the distance difference as you play better and younger people. It feels like people are hitting it further, which would appear to go against the stats that keep coming at us. Also to note is the short game tends to be quite sharp. With the cost of golf. It is definitely getting too expensive. The cost of the current AI Smoke Driver is $1270.00NZD. Iron sets, TM P790, $3000 NZD. Those 2 prices are what I would consider the norm if you wanted new gear. Our 2nd hand market is still very overpriced, so it's not that easy, even for someone getting into golf to do it cheaply. I've been playing golf for 8 years or so and my membership has increased year on year apart from 1. A bucket of balls at the range is now $20 when it was $12 when I started. There appears no end in sight to the constant price increases.
Hate the fact that people are still attempting to defend the LIV players... They took the money. They KNEW that it would mean that they would not receive OWGR points. I don't know what Louis Oosthuizen did to piss off the very pro-PGA Majors. Some of the golfers from both LIV and PGA that received invites to Master and now PGA Championship can't hold a candle to Louis...and Louis has been playing very good and deserved invites to both! You guys are way off on cost of golf. Greens fees have gone up 20-40 percent over the last ~5 years. Your local public course shouldnt be $40+ for 18 holes on a weekday. Balls are 30-75 depending in what you play and what fits your game. Those are the two biggest offenders imo.
Sorry but you’re off base. Golf is absolutely expensive at any level when you compare it to other sports. Basketball cost $20 for a ball. Even if you want to create an argument it’s $20 for a ball, $20 for shorts and $50 for shoes for basketball. Tennis, baseball, soccer, rugby, and football have very similar case. Golf is $50 for a set at goodwill. You still need shoes, a collar shirt at most courses, a bag, tees, balls, glove, towel, plus greens fees every time you want to play. That’s not even mentioning the fact that most of the time you have to travel further than you would to do most other sports. So that’s cost time and money. We have money for birthdays and a vacation once a year, no struggles paying bills and my son has nice clothes and a couple pairs of jordans (birthday gifts). That being said if he wanted to play golf I’d imagine it’d be minimum $100 a week for balls, range, a round and whatever random occurrence golf has. That’s $400 a month, that would definitely hurt. Especially now that the price of everything is rising I’d have to say golf is an expensive sport.
With Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, refurbished golfballs, using equipment from 3-10 years ago and the mindset that practicing makes you better, not spending money...golf can be affordable.

super bad idea in my opinion. If you just want to play go ahead but you're wasting money big time. We have a pro golfer in VT here and he would kick you around any golf course. He averages 8 under over 12ish courses. He's god damn amazing and he can't qualify.

The PGA is so important to the chap he couldn't be bothered following the rules or to put in the work and try and qualify. Golf club prices are bad. Yes you can get used options or OTC, but overall they are silly. Greens fee prices as well as prices to use a cart (buggy as you guys call them) are also ridiculous. The latter comes down to supply and demand imo. In the US, many courses had closed pre-covid due to multiple reasons. Now there are less courses to play and more people taking up the game. It sucks for the consumer.

Distance is great but consistency and accuracy are better. I believe if you can develop consistency and accuracy, you can increase distance with slow modifications without compromising your accuracy..

My favourite early content of Rick and Pete was the creation of content around PGA events and Open Qualifying. Looking forward to the content and break 75 as a sub plot is genius.
Thousands of people try to qualify just like thousands run in marathons. Most realize they won't win. In the marathon it is an absolute fact that Rick could not win. In the qualifier, there could always be the smallest possibility of a dream round. Feeling the excitement, anxiousness, fear, hope, would definitely be an experience. I am absolutely terrible at golf, but I would love to play in an event with thousands of people watching. Why not? It would be terrifying in such a fun way.

I like Rick's demeanor, honesty, excitement. Trying to qualify for a venue like this can take you out of your comfort zone, and forget the basics real fast. It truly is " just golf ", but the 15th club in the bag, your mindset / attitude, has to be clicking in a positive way. Play well !!!

In regard to the distance chat, it is now more important than ever for a "normal" golfer to get into the speed race with proper training. I'm 47 and play interclub here in NZ. I'm currently playing off a 6 - 7 handicap. As you move through the handicap range and play different grades it is very noticeable the distance difference as you play better and younger people. It feels like people are hitting it further, which would appear to go against the stats that keep coming at us. Also to note is the short game tends to be quite sharp.
With the cost of golf. It is definitely getting too expensive. The cost of the current AI Smoke Driver is $1270.00NZD. Iron sets, TM P790, $3000 NZD. Those 2 prices are what I would consider the norm if you wanted new gear. Our 2nd hand market is still very overpriced, so it's not that easy, even for someone getting into golf to do it cheaply. I've been playing golf for 8 years or so and my membership has increased year on year apart from 1. A bucket of balls at the range is now $20 when it was $12 when I started. There appears no end in sight to the constant price increases.
Hate the fact that people are still attempting to defend the LIV players... They took the money. They KNEW that it would mean that they would not receive OWGR points. The KNEW that it meant that they could not qualify for majors. They took their payout. Wipe your tears with your fucking money and move on.
If they want to rejoin the PGA tour. FINE. Let them re-qualify by playing events in lower leagues.

I don't know what Louis Oosthuizen did to piss off the very pro-PGA Majors. Some of the golfers from both LIV and PGA that received invites to Master and now PGA Championship can't hold a candle to Louis...and Louis has been playing very good and deserved invites to both!

You guys are way off on cost of golf. Greens fees have gone up 20-40 percent over the last ~5 years. Your local public course shouldnt be $40+ for 18 holes on a weekday. Balls are 30-75 depending in what you play and what fits your game. Those are the two biggest offenders imo.
Sorry but you’re off base. Golf is absolutely expensive at any level when you compare it to other sports. Basketball cost $20 for a ball. Even if you want to create an argument it’s $20 for a ball, $20 for shorts and $50 for shoes for basketball. Tennis, baseball, soccer, rugby, and football have very similar case. Golf is $50 for a set at goodwill. You still need shoes, a collar shirt at most courses, a bag, tees, balls, glove, towel, plus greens fees every time you want to play. That’s not even mentioning the fact that most of the time you have to travel further than you would to do most other sports. So that’s cost time and money. We have money for birthdays and a vacation once a year, no struggles paying bills and my son has nice clothes and a couple pairs of jordans (birthday gifts). That being said if he wanted to play golf I’d imagine it’d be minimum $100 a week for balls, range, a round and whatever random occurrence golf has. That’s $400 a month, that would definitely hurt. Especially now that the price of everything is rising I’d have to say golf is an expensive sport.
With Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, refurbished golfballs, using equipment from 3-10 years ago and the mindset that practicing makes you better, not spending money...golf can be affordable.

These RUclipsrs have to stop wasting time trying to qualify for the Open. I’ve known loads of guys much better who never got close to making it. Even if you’re good enough, you need to beat about 200 other players who are just as good. Not happening.

Don't be silly, golf is expensive. I love golf but it's blimming expensive. They failed to start by comparing it to other sports, it's way more expensive than football or rugby where all you pretty much need is boots, racket sports just a racket and shoes. Cricket you need a few bit but again much less, same with running, and boxing etc etc. None of these have exhorbitant membership fees either. What you're saying with oh just do it on the cheap, on that basis those other sports are even less expensive still as you can just do with any old football boots. Not only that, you are at a disadvantage in golf. The guy woth 100 pound set of clubs trying to compete with guy with all the best gear, range finders etc is already at a disadvantage, not impossible to overcome if you're a solid player but again you dont get that degree of disparity in most other sports e.g. where i can literally buy the same racket as Rafa Nadal for 200 quid, done. Playing poor courses in winter is no fun either and i could go on. So please just call spade a spade as you sound a bit snobby otherwise, it is expensive. 39:34.

super bad idea in my opinion. If you just want to play go ahead but you're wasting money big time. We have a pro golfer in VT here and he would kick you around any golf course. He averages 8 under over 12ish courses. He's god damn amazing and he can't qualify.

The PGA is so important to the chap he couldn't be bothered following the rules or to put in the work and try and qualify.

I just can't see how a YT content creator can seriously perform on an Open Championship qualifying venue. Golf is hard, those players who qualify from regional each year are dedicated players. Call it what it is, content creation with the risk of looking like a chump

Golf club prices are bad. Yes you can get used options or OTC, but overall they are silly. Greens fee prices as well as prices to use a cart (buggy as you guys call them) are also ridiculous. The latter comes down to supply and demand imo. In the US, many courses had closed pre-covid due to multiple reasons. Now there are less courses to play and more people taking up the game. It sucks for the consumer.

What I have noticed about golf is you can't cheat your subconscious. If you don't truly feel you belong, you won't play well.
