Meeting Moment: Assessing Risk for Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is a serious issue in Calgary and the police are often required to assess the risk of domestic violence in a relationship.
In this Meeting Moment, one of our commissioners asked the ‪@calgarypolice‬ how they ensure they are learning from situations where risk assessments and the resulting emergency protection orders do not keep victims safe.
The answer was that they always look at other models for assessing risk to ensure they are using the best ones, and that they look to the Family Violence Death Review Committee to provide recommendations when the system is not able to keep someone safe.
