Mind you, we're talking about people, who made Starkiller base and thought that its most scary attribute was a "hyperspace laser"... meanwhile they gave it an ability to
1)directly collect energy from the stars at its own forced rate,
2)shown that First Order excavated and build over a whole planet in few decades,
3)made a mistake of putting hyperspace part into the weapon implying that the whole thing had an ability to open and maintain hyperspace anomalies.
So its utility was actually scarier then its use. 1 and 2 combined logically lead to First Order basically having their own Star Forge with the unlimited amount of energy and resources at their disposal and enough equipment to replace a significant part of a planet with machinery in short order. While 1 and 3 together imply that with a bit of adjusting, Star Killer can travel in hyperspace by ITSELF. At this rate Star Killer becomes not a name that carries around a point about its use, but rather a horrific rumour about unknown weapon that destroys planets and blackens the stars. You know, as in when someone investigates it with spies or gravity sensors, there is a planet, but when Republic fleet enters the system, there is a star that has cold surfaces and wouldn't shine again for a few weeks, but also no planet or even traces of one. Mobile Star Forge is much more potent and Star Killer ALREADY had all the needed equipement. And it would have perfectly explained all the First Orders ships appearing out of nowhere in millions.

Those images of Kylo Ren's version of a Star Destroyer got me thinking about him as a character.
It is already established lore that Jedi often work on something to keep themselves grounded in reality. Be it piloting ships, working with droids, or speaking with other people. I think it would have been an interesting change of pace if Kylo kept himself grounded by designing ships. What if he designed the absolute fleet killers of the First Order? It would help flesh out his nostalgia for the Empire and it would be a change of pace to "evil guy in a mask." I can imagine him being skilled in the Force but also intelligent when it comes to designing a fleet. It makes sense, his father was one of the best and creative pilots, his mother was the general of the Rebellion, and his mentor knew how to take down large targets. Kylo Ren could have been the perfect choice for designing a ship to counter the New Republic. But that's too complicated for JJ I guess.

    • @0hvist
      @0hvist 4 года назад +141

and from a lore standpoint, I believe that (since the planet wasn't blown up) Kylo would have spent more time on Corellia as a Kid before joining Lukes' Jedi Praxeum, meaning that Ben (had he became a Jedi) would have gotten some experience with the Corellian Engineering Corporation and have easily been susceptible to the playful rumor that Kylo "had Jet-Fuel for blood" (A common joke made about Corellians due to their apparent love for being both the best pilots and the best shipwrights in the Galaxy).
Having grown up most of his early life on Corellia, Kylo would have quickly jumped at the opportunity to design and fly his own capital ships when he became part of the First Order, often showing up Hux whenever he tried to assume command of one of the ships that Kylo had personally designed and that only he knew the ships layout and design faculties. Or if Kylo hears that Hux ended up using one of his designed ships in a way that caused unnecessary damage or preventable loss-of-life had Hux used the systems that Kylo had installed within the ship in the first place, only for Hux to keep getting fed up at Kylo trying to assume command over his fleet like this. It would have provided a more believable and realistic rivalry between the two of them that would feel more organic and grounded instead of being contrived and out-of-place like it was in the trilogy.

The First Order VS. The New Republic.
Hear me out: If Starkiller was never a thing, and the military of the New Republic and the First Order went at it, imagine the story. The Redemption of the Republic Senate, the return of Politics in Star Wars, which although boring, are amazing points to the overall story, as proven in the Clone Wars. There could be so many different story arcs for individuals too. I'm listing what I can so strap in.
Finn: An ex-stormtrooper turned into a Republic Commander. Most of the Republic would hate him, and even oppose him due to his origin. But Finn would prove himself battle after battle and become a war hero.
Rey: One of the last jedi in the galaxy, who has to rely solely on herself to train as Luke refused. The entire galaxy looks up to her, and she feels she can't let them down (a little Pull to the Dark Side perhaps?)
Poe Dameron: Poe would shoot up the ranks of the military, developing tactics and ideas to counter the intense onslaught of the First Order.
Kylo Ren: As he gathers in strength, his faith in the Supreme Leader Snoke diminishes. He secretly attempts to convince Rey to join him, (a little knock back, but not rip off, of Luke and Vader). Eventually, Kylo betrays Snoke, becomes the Supreme Leader, and is known throughout the galaxy as a murderer, making his redemption all the better. Hell, its Disney, throw in a little Rey x Kylo too. Love triangle between Rey, Finn and Kylo, add suspension. Maybe even have Kylo kill/wound Finn and the relationship between Rey and Kylo become a lot more complex.
Luke: Luke would at first deny the war, but after some convincing from Leia, Lando, Han, Chewie, Yoda, and even have Anakin counsel him as a Force Ghost, Luke decides to join the fight. He becomes the Jedi Grand Master we all know and love from Legends, and starts a new order to counter Kylo's chosen.
Leia: Leia, now too old to fight, must turn to the political side of the war. She begins to work in the Senate, calling out traitors of the Republic and inspiring the galaxy to be better. Corruption in the Senate dies, and a new hope is born that the New Republic will not fall like the Galactic Republic did.
Han: Han is torn apart by the war. On one end, his friend and wife are fighting for the Republic. On the other, his only Son leads the First Order. He tries to drink his problems away at first, but eventually is visited by Rey, Leia & Luke. After an emotional moment, we see Han return to the fight, acting as a General in the Republic once more. All the while, he tries to find ways to redeem his son, and bring him back to the light.
This isn't even counting the individual spinnoffs for the New Jedi Order, the Resistance (now working with but not formally considered Republic), and the return of Palpatine with his own fleet. Perhaps the First Order and Republic working together to prevent Palpatine from destroying the known galaxy?
The only flaw I'm thinking is that it's a lot like the Prequels, and not entirely its own storyline. But hey, better to be Relatable then to be an down-right rip off.

If he does win it would certainly be appealed and so even more fees and time. Unless he’s running a super successful funding campaign or gets financial support it’s dead from the start.

JJ had the opportunity to fix any of the issues and problems that TLJ had (I liked TLJ, but there were admittedly many problems). It could’ve used anakin in such a creative way now that we know force ghosts can shoot lightning and shit like that. The movie could’ve honestly helped people come around to the last Jedi and make Disney Star Wars feel more complete. When we see that could’ve happened, but instead they shoehorn palpatine, it makes the last installment of the saga give an existential emptiness that I don’t think I’ve ever gotten from any movie

It didn't help that there was no consistent vision for what anyone at Disney wanted their version of Star Wars to be, with some basically wanting to redo the Original Trilogy while others had more... As much as it pains me to see how cook TROS could have been, the fact is the entire Sequel Trilogy was screwed up from the beginning with TFA, it's just a lot of us, myself included, were too blind to see it at the time.
Aside from preventing the new Canon from having any cool stories between ROTJ and TFA, the movies already established that there's essentially no government, and that the New Republic exists only in name, so no new cool ships or troops; Luke never got the New Jedi Order off the ground, so nothing there either; the formation of the First Order, or whatever the new Empire/Imperial Remnant should have been, was never elaborated on in the movies, nor did the movies establish if the FO was merely a surviving splinter faction or a reinvigorated war machine with limitless resources; there were no Dark Side orders, because it turns out the Knights of Ren are just a group of barbarians with no ties to the Sith or Sidious' plan, and that was only addressed through the damn comics; and the Resistance just uses old hands-me-downs, so no new ships or anything there either.
Combine all of that with the fact that none of the directors had a common vision and the person in charge of Lucasfilm cared more about identity politics than what the actual story was.
I really have no idea how they were GIVEN a new Star Wars trilogy and a whole new Canon to build, and they've fucked it up from the get-go. That's why I can't get into the new comics or shows like The Mandalorian, because I know canonically none of it matters; the Republic will still be destroyed without a major battle, the Knights of Ren will ultimately be of no consequence, Luke, Han and Leia will essentially accomplish nothing, and Rey will be the one to create a new Jedi Order from LITERALLY nothing. No guidance, no artifacts, no training, nothing; and the Skywalker line will be dead, forever. It's easier to just go back to Legends.

It's because artists are most likely Star Wars fans. They need the knowledge of the universe in order to create good concepts. These people play old games in their free time, watch movies and research old and unused art. Disney is a megacorporation that cares about creativity as long as it fits with their plans. They research what people talk about after seeing the movie and it's most likely that 90% of the comments were about inclusion of modern topics such as female representation, minorities and sending liberal messages. That's why Ep8 included Holdo, Rose and freeing the space horses. That didn't turn out all that well so Rose was no more, new female characters appeared with minimal screen time (I don't think that ex-trooper woman which teams up with Finn got 2 minutes of total screen time) and everything focused on Rey-Kylo relationship now.

Having a hangar bay on the ceiling would have been interesting in many ways.
I find it very reminiscent of the Venator-class star destroyer, a throwback to Republic-era design that's not so surprising. The First Order as described in 7 borrowed elements from the GAR: trooper indoctrination from early childhood, early attempts of using clones, heavy reliance on starfighters.
It wouldn't have improved the corresponding scene where Kylo Ren suddenly forgot how to use the Force to pin the Falcon down, but it would been visually interesting at least.

They said in the releases that they didn't want to 'spoil the ending' in the books so nothing about Palpatine or the rebel fleet were allowed. You can see a short video on the rebel fleet design on the Target release of the Bluray. It might even be up on RUclips now. That scene with Kylo Ren landing, they used that design with the Venerator.
I agree the SD's would have been a lot cooler and the movie was haphazard and blah. There were a lot of things wrong with it. They really wanted to push the underdog thing to absurd lengths. And crashing the Falcon that many times??
That shipyard design looked cool but weird. I think I'll hold off on buying the book now that I know what is in it.

If you observe every shot of the destroyers in TROS, they did actually make changes to the ship...pretty unnoticeable though. They add another deflector shield and the communications tower from an ISD above the slightly modified bridge. Also I believe they added doors to the main hangar due to the incidents in the last 2 movies

    • @phillyskyguy9535

Also looking back, the bridge on the Resurgent's in TROS are centered. Unlike in TFA and TLJ where it's located on the starboard side of the ship

We can only hope that some day there'll be another chapter or Star Wars, or a deeper exploration of this one, where we'll get to see all these things out there. If we can see the "Outlander" self sufficient TIE from the Force Awakens concept in Mandalorian, maybe the rest of all yhis can start to come out.

The first order factory, kylos super star destroyer, the hanger, the red battle of Exegol tone with the ships rising from underground factories that would have made the movie so much better! I mean the script would still need much changing as barely any of it made any sense

The complete lack of surprise I felt when you mentioned yet more plagiarism in published official materials just makes me sad. I really liked the first concept image you showed of Kylo's SSD; these movies are such a good chance to show off new ship designs and it's so disappointing to see that opportunity go to waste.

    cool, hrrmmm... i
if i were to describe how i meant it should look in that one short story i wrote at-least
was picturing sort of a ...
well i really like that art for the star destroyer factory, its pretty cool,
i was picturing sort of like a deep underground construction that makes a planet look almost like theirs a death star buried in it in portions of it, or a Dyson sphere that has had the planet element of it completely overgrow on top of it, so you'd have this massive elevator shaft, like that factory opening, and because its built deep and underground the most bottom layer and one of the most important first to build would have been the anti-gravity plating to basically remove gravity as a factor for everything above it to very minimal levels and would depend on artificial gravity plating on walkways to keep people pulled down
and chains actually keeping star destroyers anchored to the floors and areas they were built on because the anti gravity means they could float inside of a ... well Dyson sphere or death star or interior factory of a planet sized construction yard, that in essence was a huge building built into the crust of a planet, and you would just have hundreds or perhaps just 20 to 50 on each floor for like 10 to 20 floors and one central open shaft on scale like that, maybe even just one vast floor with hundreds and then like 10 or so floors each like that, give it a overwhelming yet mechanically comparable to modern earth during war time feel

I'm thinking about making a fanfiction of what The Rise of skywalker Should have ben instead if the one that we got and hey, I liked the original one, though it could've turned out a little better had these things been added. I am definitely buying the art of The Rise of Skywalker one day.

It would be interesting to know which of these ideas were from J J Abrams and his team and which were from Colin Trevorrow, because I feel like most of the Star Destroyer artwork alongside this shipyard in form of the First Order logo feels more in line with Trevorrow's script than with what we got in TRoS by J J Abrams. I presume that the artworks from the places we saw in TRoS are obviously from the Abrams film crew, but I have the bad feeling that the Super Star Destroyer for Kylo got scrapped because it was never planned for TRoS - however, we know that at least one Super Star Destroyer/Super Starship Structure was planned for the Trevorrow-script.
