Buying the right pods is key to ensure a trusted blend and a fuller choice of flavours - The pods are fully recyclable here in the Uk and easy to do through PODBACK, you can drop off at key locations or have them collected by your local postman as long as you have the Aluminium type - All free - Job Done !! making this option even better than all the other fuss. Thank for a great review...
I'm intrigued. That shot cup is awesome. I would love to have that in my collection. You get the best presents!!! All that snow is beautiful. It doesn't look like we'll be getting any. Spring seems to be early this year. The birds outside seem to think so. They are singing their little hearts out this morning. Thanks for the review!!!
While i agree with the environmentaly friendly aspect but for ease of use and carying out youre waste this is a feasible option. Thanks for a great realistic review!
Personally I think the minipresso makes the best espresso (and it is smaller/lighter). But it needs modifying to really perform well (I replaced the basket with an IMS high precision basket "La Pavoni" size 51.5, and a Normcore 51mm Puck Screen). It also pays to warm the machine up with boiling water first so you do not get a big temperature drop. I also love my Nanofoamer V2 for backwoods cappuccino. Cheers for the review!
I like it. I was given an Nespresso maker but hated the wastefulness until I got a Dualit Eco Press. It separates the coffee and the aluminium. One for recycling the other for compost!
Good morning Mark. I’m sure some Italian viewers will chime in on this not being real espresso. If I was going to make it in the woods, back in my massive coffe addiction days, they have very light weight ones that make it properly by sitting on top of the fire and use boiling water/steam by boiling it up from the bottom over the fire. They’re also half the price, with nothing to break. I don’t really care though, I’m a tea toddler now, and I just watch cuz you’re my friendly face coming to visit on a Saturday morning. ……if I was still a coffee nut, I’d be giving you hell though!😀
@jimf1964 that's true, Jim. Keurig and Tassimo pods aren't authentic either, but for many people, convenience is more important. I was surprised that those pods never led to reduced drive-through coffee runs in the morning. Making coffee at home has always been simple, and those pods are even simpler and faster.
@@jamespaul2587 I never used pods. I think they’re silly. I’ve never been a fan of all this over packaging we have. It’s expensive and wasteful. Many people don’t get how expensive it is. I worked repairing packaging equipment in a company for a while, and whole factories are required just to put stuff in little bags. Such a waste when it’s individual servings, that are then grouped into another package.
Thanks for saying that coffee grounds deposited in the outdoors can be detrimental environmentally. They are not natural organic matter in our areas outdoors. No different than throwing a banana peel on the ground. Intriguing device. Since I love espresso, I may have to consider this product. Thanks for the review, Mark.
I love that the lofi stove is getting some serious use. Its such a fascinating stove. Cant wait to see your long term review of it and see what kinda different fuel sources you use. Have you also gotten his titanium bento style box from his recent kickstarter?
@@MarkYoungBushcraft no I meant the lofi Lunchbox. Which is being sold as a ultralight titanium lunchbox & cookpot. It's got a silicone lid that you can seal your food in. I think he is selling two different sizes a 800ml and a 1200ml
I did not notice it at the time but I believe I did not have the capsule portion on tight enough. Leaked as the pressure built up. Thanks for commenting
Looks like an interesting unit. I'm a tea drinker now so this looks like a lot of work; however, when I did drink coffee, this would have been novel. Go figure! Is it true that Nespresso offers to recycle used pods if you mail them in? Looks like a nice day in the woods, Mark.
G'day Mark, I'm open, to try at least, any coffee, .... incidentally, have you tried Turkish coffee, aka ....... "tar" ; ) ? I've had quite a few cracks at it and it does get easier, but jeeeez you'd wanna grow up with it I reckon Gotta say flavor wise, a stout little concentrated espresso cant be beat; a diluted Americana, being the next best thing IMO, though not sure why the yanks have dibs on this variation, (and as with the pizza of the same name), I dont think either have ever been remotely unique to the states .... LOL !!!!!, In any event, I believe the real def of espresso requires forced steam, ....... is that your understanding ? Re; "pods" my mate swears by his Aldi bench job for convenience and in fairness he does source "special" ones as a bonus, and a very good coffee too I'd say, without being perfect for my money. And yes, ...... then there's the plastic. As far as this porta unit goes, ok cool, and I certainly dont mind a process to get a good one ........ but then there's still the plastic. Sure there's not much of it and easy enough to take home for the recycle bin, just an unnecessary evil for the application IMO. Also, I did think not leaving coffee grounds around the place was a bit precious, since it composts so well, but upon reflection, I stand corrected, its still a substance that wouldn't otherwise be there. Cheers Duke.
Definitely hot water under pressure (9 bar or more). I have had Turkish and Greek coffee before. Too much sugar for me. Got to stay close to the bathroom as well. Having said that, I am working on a version I can make in the woods. Thanks for commenting Duke
My neighbor just told me cheerfully about another coffee shop opening in the neighborhood. I told him there's no such thing as too many coffee shops. 😄🤎Likewise, there is no such thing as too much coffee chat, and **certainly** no such thing as too much coffee. 😄 ☕☕☕☕☕☕☕

We don't have a drop-off recycle program although Nespresso will accept any brand if I mailed them back. Thanks for commenting
Pretty neat little rig there. I would think it might be a very enjoyable thing to go into the woods for an espresso. Thanks for sharing Mark.
Espresso is an acquired taste. Thanks for commenting Steve

A few very interesting products. I'd be curious to hear how the reusable pods work out and about that little stove you're using.
LOFI review coming. Still waiting on the reusable pods. Thanks for commenting

Agreed, Jim. Those moka pots seem much more practical to me, and they're still available. They use ground coffee to avoid waste and high cost of pods.
