Hello fellow creator... Just saw you on @matthapoja channel and well, a friend of his is a friend of mines... so I guess I’ll be binge watchin a bit of your content... and maybe following in you guys footsteps like FaReal #frfr
Got my FX6 on preorder! Did you notice any issues w/ the Sigma vs Sony glass? Image or AF? I'm moving from a MFT system so deciding if the more expensive Sony GM glass is worth it. The camera has me sold already.
philip bloom explained the dual iso as the higher iso not having as much dynamic range therefore not truly dual BASE iso according to sonys high standards.
Bloom is a SONY abassador, and probably have some salary , in one or another way, He denies the fact but........people are not stupid. So U should not listen too much of what he says .
I would really love to see a side-by-side comparison of the FX6 and the FX 9 shooting sharp close-up skin where you can actually see pores and hair. How a camera expresses variations in the skin through color, tone and saturation are of primary importance to me in the camera that I choose. In my opinion that’s where ARRI still beats everyone else. I would love to come closer without spending $40,000.
Thanks Mark for sharing your experience on this new camera, specially from a FX9 owner. I like how you stay true on your thoughts, pointing details which can be annoying for an operator. That’s really refreshing among all RUclipsrs reviews here.
The CRAZY thing about the S-III and FX6 is that their dual gain circuits spread soooo far apart (the original S-III firmware had 640/16,000…thankfully somebody at Sony changed the final release firmware to 640/12800) On the FX6, the “low” 0d is pre amped to equal 800 ISO. The “high” 0db is pre amped to equal 12800 ISO. To me, this seems to be somewhat crazy. This causes the middle and upper end of the first stage circuit to have way more noise then it needs. 4,000 - 10,000 are pretty bad. Shouldn’t Sony lower the second stage preamp gain to equal 4,000-6,000 ISO instead? I think the FX9 and Lumix S1H have more reasonable dual gain preamp values. 4,000 ISO fills the image quality “gap” that exists on the top end of the first stage. Yes, that would sacrifice all the crazy “25,000 ISO” values, true….but who uses those anyway? I’d MUCH prefer to have 800-6,000 range that has no severe gaps in noise performance.
Stunning footage mate! It certainly looks like an interesting camera, when you consider it's about 1500 to 2000 more than the A7III but with that ND and XLRs and a cinema (albeit small cinema) body. I'm going to have a play around with your clips now 🤓
FX6 looks perfect for my needs, should be a nice move forward from my pocket4k's, I'll save that 5k difference and buy grip/lighting equipment :) Cheers, Mark!
MANNNN! I LOVE the footage form the FX6!!!!!!!! Just put it on FCPX and WHAT A DYNAMIC RAGE! I'm blown away!!!! Color grading and correcting was a PLEASURE! Getting the FX9 now!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I got my FX6 two weeks ago and I love ❤️ it. One of the very few that got a unit this early. Love it, the only thing i hope they add to the FX6 is AF Tracking like the A7S3 and to be able to add someway to add a mic on a gimbal would be great but really the image is great! and i love S-Cinetone. Great video Mark you helped me info wise make a better decision. Thanks
I have always been amazed at how you are able to achieve the certain looks within your films. I was reluctant to purchase because I am a canon shooter currently on the C300 III. I can't thank you enough for these amazing Luts! They are incredible!
Love your vids! I just pre-ordered the FX6, and my A7Siii is finally almost here. Curious to know if you have thoughts on using both cameras for the same shoot, and how they'd match up, especially if one wanted to use the S-Cinetone on the FX6. Or is the only practical way to go about to shoot S-Log in both cameras? Thanks again!
Just got the LUTs! I'm so glad that I came across your channel a little while ago! You make me excited about film making! Hoping to use the LUTs at my current job at a Church and in the future with other projects! Cheers!
Great footage, beautiful lighting on set and at your RUclips studio setup. The lut on your footage is a great selling point for them . I heard folks bitchin about this sounding like a commercial for your luts. Maybe so a touch but most of those same folks are not using video production as their main source of income . Good job brother. Oh and thanks for this video. My production company is looking into these fx6s.
Great video Mark! I’ll be pre ordering the FX6 today hopefully and I’m excited to have it paired with my GH5 and my GH4 for wedding films and corporate work!
@@markbone one of my buddies whose a wedding videographer has the A7S3 and GH5 and is able to match the footage easy! So I don’t think it would be too be of an issue between the FX6 and GH5

Great video and channel bro! You're very good on just putting things in "real world" perspective. I pre ordered my fx6 and can't wait to start telling amazing stories with it. And I'll be definitely getting your lut pack!
That's beautiful! I think one thing I love about the FX9 is the locking e mount! I want to put Tokina Primes on a camera, I think it might be hard on the FX6. I mean, it's 2 pounds and with just a clicked in lens option, not sure it's very good when moving
Thanks for this Mark, just weighing up between the two myself at the moment, and I have to say from looking at this, the image from FX9 looks just beautiful, its got that almost indefinable mojo about it, that makes you forget about the pixel peeping and you look at the story. The FX6 has a technically great image, but there's just no vibe from it by comparison

Great video! What batteries do you use to power your smallHD - the question is about third party batteries that are compatible with FX6 with Dtap output. And what is that magic arm you use at 12:50 to attach it to the camera?
Hi Mark, great video as always. Can you show us how you replaced the fx6 monitor with a smallHD one? Can you do it with a ninja v instead? Also, can the smallHD/ninja control the touchscreen commands on the fx6? TIA, K
Mark, I would love to hear your thoughts on the Blackmagic cameras as a documentary film maker, have you tried them, or do you have any opinions on them?
A lot of people ask me about them and I just don't use them. Not out of spite, but their camera bodies and sensor sizes have never interested me. But their colour science is gorgeous. People seem to capture awesome films on them
Great video. I too am an FS5 owner and ive never been a fan but mostly because of the screen. I see you hooked your smallHD to it, but with what mount? I've been looking for the best options to mount a monitor. shame to hear that you don't rate the native monitor too, that was one of my areas of concern regarding buying this camera.
Hi Mark, quick question. Hope you can enlighten me. I own a FX 9 and really like it. Is there a difference in motion cadence between FX6 and FX9, or would you say both camera's are almost equal in terms of image and motion? Thanks!
how the sensor renders movement. Do not know how to explain any different:) Do you feel that it is a lot different/more video than the FX9? Or are they both almost identical? I am considering selling my FX9 and buying the FX6, but afraid I am of downgrading image quality
Hey Mark! Thanks for the giving us the footage to try a color grade! I'm new to color grading and have been burned trying to grade LOG on my 8-bit a7iii a few times. This definitely is a completely different experience. I just got the a7siii and wonder if you prefer the FX6 over it?
Thank you, Mark. Very informative (not scientific, like you said) video with cool samples. Definitely worth watching. PS: I like your "easy" youtube setup. If simple, clean, and pleasing to watch !
Mark! Great follow-up vid. Amazing that the FX6 holds up against the 9 as much as it does. Really stunning footage you got! 2 questions: 1.) you mentioned running your SmallHD off the camera battery . . . Guessing you’re using a D-tap’d off-brand BPU? Have a fav brand that you prefer? 2.) there’s a camera “hero” shot that shows your FX6 in the location with a Sigma art lens . . . Which lens is that? Keep up the great work! Looking at your LUT pack now . . . 👌🏻
Hey Mark, can you give any information about how you rigged the smallhd? I love the system. Are you able to control the menu of your fx9 over the smallhd? I would be happy to hear from you. Thanks for all your content! Josua
Got you luts man just trying to show support. I was afraid because I have an A7III which is 8 bit and I was afraid they may break my footage. But man they look great!!! Almost feels like a new camera lol. I was using Slog 2 and everything came out amazing. Also very impressed with the skin tones I'm getting with these luts. Very natural.
Could you do some. videos talking about career tips, how. you got to where you are, finding work and making profit in doc filmmaking!? Would be super helpful!
Thanks for your thoughts and especially for making camera masters available. I was wondering if you turned off the denoising in the FX6 and were you using the autofocus? As pleasing as the overall images are I just cannot see a consistent level of detail in the shots, now that they are in davinci especiallly say in the fx6 hair and skin. It could be me. My eyes arent great. Maybe your model had flawless skin but I would expect to see pores and more skin tone variation. I have shot with the fx9 and know it can be there but given its 6K full frame I am surprised that I find the Canon C300iii seems to have more fidelity and detail. Again was there a reason why you didnt go with the C500ii (maybe price) as I believe that you say that you use it? When and why would you use the Canon C500ii over the Sony FX9? Have you tried the R5? You seem like someone who wants fidelity and detail in your shots though you also seem to like to saturate your colours. I agree that the Ursa is a pig of a camera but how important is the image quality in your work and what is it about the Sony look that you like say compared to RED Canon Braw Kinefinity Arri (Amira), assuming price isn't the limiting factor? Thanks so much. Best K
The lighting in this location is quite soft so the image acutance is low, naturally it does not emphasize skin texture. On top of it most of the shots have a strong light source within the frame which lowers the contrast further by slightly flaring the lens and reducing its ability to render detail.
It's hard to tell for sure since the lighting was different, but I feel like the FX9's footage just has a bit more pleasing of a look. Hard to put my finger on. Almost a smoother, more lifelike, less digital look. Very subtle, but I see it instantly. Not sure if I'm crazy or if that's actually a real thing. It's the one factor that gives me pause about switching over to the FX6 from my FX9. It's also what gave me pause about getting an A7Siii because I saw the same thing. But I really don't know if it has more to do with the lenses used, or is actually a sensor thing.
We are swapping one of our Fx9s for one Fx6 but if you have an Fx9 I wouldn't see any reason to swap right now unless you desperately want the high frame rates and (fairly) clean 12800ISO. otherwise keep your Fx9!
Not sure if this is asked already but the skin tones on the FX6 appears to be more pinkish compare to your FX9 footage... is it just that it was graded differently or the scene had pink colours that reflected on the skin?
Thanks Mark for the Deep drive 🙌, great info. What lens are you using to get anamorphic like flair on a 16:9 image at time code 5:47 of this video? I'm trying to find a spherical lens that can do this too. Thank you
Thank you.. I was stressing this, "that the footage looked kinda soft compared to the fx9". I was indirectly called a troll.. guess people feel a strong need to protect their biases.

Do you have a video where you correct your colour balance? Would love to see a different methods used by various of filmmaker.
I did one recently on skin tone!!
FX9 + A7S3 ☺️
What lens were you using for the FX6 Clip? Just downloaded it and It's beautiful
The Sony 24mm 1.4
Thank you, Mark. Very informative (not scientific, like you said) video with cool samples. Definitely worth watching. PS: I like your "easy" youtube setup. If simple, clean, and pleasing to watch !
What lenses are you using with the FX6 ballerina footage?
I would love to see how you grade the project :)
Mark! Great follow-up vid. Amazing that the FX6 holds up against the 9 as much as it does. Really stunning footage you got! 2 questions:
1.) you mentioned running your SmallHD off the camera battery . . . Guessing you’re using a D-tap’d off-brand BPU? Have a fav brand that you prefer?
2.) there’s a camera “hero” shot that shows your FX6 in the location with a Sigma art lens . . . Which lens is that?
Keep up the great work! Looking at your LUT pack now . . . 👌🏻
1. yes! using a D-tap adapter 2. the Sigma lens is their e-mount 35mm 1.2. and thanks for checking out the LUT pack :)
@@markbone Any D-tap cables/batteries you prefer? Going to run a similar setup when my FX6 comes in.
@@mueller_alex plz lmk if toy find the right batteries/ dtap set up. I want to power my Shogun 7 with this set up. Thanks
Pro Ordered FX6 lets go :)
Yeah man!! You’re gonna love it.
Hey Mark, can you give any information about how you rigged the smallhd? I love the system. Are you able to control the menu of your fx9 over the smallhd? I would be happy to hear from you. Thanks for all your content! Josua
I do not have control over the menu. And I use an ultra light arm. Wooden camera creates a version of it now
Mark please upload in 4k your vids are breaking apart like crazy because of RUclips's compression. Such a pity!
mate! it is 4K :) it must have just taken longer to compress. Also if you're using safari it can't be viewed in 4K
@@markbone Aha I guess it's the downside of having the bell notification :( Instead of bokeh, I get a Tetris background
Is there an issue with the green aliasing issue from window light in the fx6 like there is with the fx9? That’s been a huge question in my mind
yes, similar aliasing
@@markbone 😔☹️😞😕🙁
Love the Zelda reference
Loved this! Thank you!
Love it brother! So glad they're helping out your shooting game!
they look magenta to me, maybe i must calibrate my monitor
Could you do some. videos talking about career tips, how. you got to where you are, finding work and making profit in doc filmmaking!? Would be super helpful!
Which lens do you use for balerina shooting?
a combo of the sony 24mm 1.4 and the sigma 35mm 1.2
between this and the komodo which has the best image quality?
I think it has to do a bit with the environment and also I find the Fx9 slightly more green. This is just my top level observations, nothing charted
@@markbone Thanks for the extra notes. I actually prefer the more greenish tone look from the FX9 - from viewing it on my end.
Great review, thanks Mark 🔥
How were you operating the menus with no LCD and just your SmallHD?
how much of it does apply to a7s3? just image-wise. aside of lack of c-cinetone - any difference in dr perfomance?
Great video!
thanks mate!
Thanks Mark for the Deep drive 🙌, great info. What lens are you using to get anamorphic like flair on a 16:9 image at time code 5:47 of this video? I'm trying to find a spherical lens that can do this too. Thank you
I was using a filter that gave the flares. I'll talk about it when I'm allowed to!
First time ever hearing the nes classic The Legend of Zelda's overworld (lacking any wayfinding whatsoever) to Sony's menu system! Hilarious.
Thank you.. I was stressing this, "that the footage looked kinda soft compared to the fx9".
I was indirectly called a troll.. guess people feel a strong need to protect their biases.
haha. RUclips in general is a bad place to judge footage, it's why I included a download link for the footage
Hi Mark, can you recall your camera settings for the clip provided? Mostly ISO and picture profile settings. Thanks man.
Slog 3 and ISO 800 for both
@@markbone jolly good then
Hi
Jast preached you Lot’s pack
I have the Sony fx6 and I was Sad to find out that the pack included only 3 Sony Lot’s of 17
I think 35$ for3 Lot it’s pretty expensive 😕
Nice review. Thanks very much.
