- Join me as I build up my new ride & we dive into the motivations behind why I choose this style of bike, what it'll be used for, and the new series coming to the channel with this rig! I'm beyond stoked to add a new type of bike to my fleet & experience a new world of riding I've never really taken time to explore - I've been putting big mile on this bike already and I'm in love so far. I also picked up a few goodies to outfit this new bike that I share in this video as well!
BONUS: Stay tuned for the channels new series where we'll delve deeper into my dad's road to recovery from a mountain bike accident that left him with broken ribs, vertebrae in his back, & right femur - we plan to share the intricate details of his traumatic injury from the hurdles he has & will need to conquer, to his triumphant comeback to the mountain bike. This new series will feature moments of courage, determination, and ultimately joy as we document this remarkable tale in hopes to help or motivate others overcoming similar situations & injuries.
The bike: I specifically chose the Fairdale brand because they're a rider owned brand & founded by a legendary BMX rider which means the bikes they build have FUN baked into their DNA, you can learn more about the Fairdale Weekender Nomad or any of the other RAD Fairdale bikes here: shop.fairdaleb...

Early in the video I thought to myself, “it could be powerful to watch if Mike made a video riding gravel bikes with his dad”…and then you announced you’re making a whole series of videos on his return to riding! I love the idea! And love gravel bikes! I’m pumped for it all!
How’d you decide on steel for your frame?
Sorry I'm just getting back here Stephen! Thanks for reaching out - I've quickly fallen in love with the Gravel rig & have been having joy filled days out on it & it's been a huge bonus getting to ride with my dad again.
I wanted to go w/ a steel frame because I planned on riding some rocky singletrack on this bike so I wanted a bit of compliance which steel is notorious for! Fairdale was an easy choice for me as it's owned by legendary BMX pro Taj Mihelich!
People can say what they want, many say that gravels are just MTBs from the 90s, but they've got a soul of their own, I love mine just as much as I love my BMX bikes, sometimes you're just in another mood and having options is never a bad thing.
You can never have too many bikes! I have a gravel bike as well. I ride it on all types of surfaces up to intermediate trails. It’s nice to have a bike quiver! Sorry to hear about your dad, and I wish him a speedy recovery. I enjoy his videos when still today.
You're not wrong! I need to start purging previous rides that are just sitting thought.. haha.
That's rad to hear!! I'm so stoked to start ripping some single track on the gravel rig.
Thx for the love for the ol' man - we did a 32 mile ride yesterday!
@@JoyOfBike me too, you can run out of room! I found that gravel bikes are fun on the climbs, with the drop bars. A little sketch downhill on loose surfaces, but a fun challenge nonetheless.
I've had to start storing bikes at our coffee roastery... haha.
I rode a pretty rugged dirt service road last weekend & definitely got well acquainted with the sketch factor of drop bars haha. A few scary moments!
I’m stoked for this series. I haven’t pulled the trigger on a gravel bike yet but this may inspire me to do so.
Heck yea!! What’re ya lookin’ at? I never thought I’d enjoy it; but I’ve found myself ripping out for rides any chance I can get!
Litterally just ordered my size large
No kidding? Man you’re gonna love it - can’t wait to hear what ya think. 🫶🏻
Glad your Dad is getting better. Lovely bike.
Thx for the love mate! 🫶🏻
Truly excited to acquainted with this rig. What’s your go-to ride??
@@JoyOfBike I mostly ride my Stanton steel hardtail. I don't ride much as most of my time is used looking after young children. So i mainly do very poor basic trials riding in my garden
@@thechamp8971 heck yea, hard tails are my favorite!! That trails riding will pay off on the trails down the road & I’m sure your kids will be stoked to join you when they’re older!
Great video and looking forward to the journey with your dad!
You'll have to tell us about that coffee setup in the background sometime..☕
Thanks mate!! We’re stoked to share the first video & the journey. Thanks for joining in!
We could definitely do a video on it some time - it’s our Traction Coffee Roasters (www.TRACTION.coffee) setup, we roast high grade beans from all over the world & have a blast doing it! Shout with questions anytime.
Definitely a Fairdale 😀
👀 Those who know, know. haha.
Hell Ya 🎉
Sr’s road to recovery baby!!
What size ?? And what’s your height ?
I did the XL & I’m loving it, I’m 6’ 4”!
@@JoyOfBike at 5/10 I’m thinking a large but not certain
@@themiddleagemasher8108 large should be solid, especially if you're planning to do longer rides on it!
@@JoyOfBike right on. 👍
Are you guys colorado based
We are!
Absolutely zero interest in gravel bikes.
I love all bikes, I hope you understand. 🫶🏻
@@JoyOfBike Of course! Just giving you feedback. 🙂
