Apologies if I have it wrong, as returning to Subbuteo after a long lay off (30+ years lol). But shouldn’t the goal at 10.18 be disallowed for a foul, particularly as you have access to VAR technology. The Sunderland player hits the Norwich player on the way through to the ball. Or is this no longer the rule in the modern game?
Perhaps. If I'm honest we haven't used the "replay it back" stuff since season 1, as it got a bit tedious and I don't know about you but VAR is a curse on the game in my opinion so we didn't want it spoiling the magic of flick to kick. Only when editing and slowing it down did there seem to be a slight nick on the Norwich defender, but in real time neither of us saw it until days later on a slow motion playback. I know there's a rule for "smashing" in the modern game, where contact in certain situations are allowed, but had we seen or suspected it then yes it would have been a foul to us. Unfortunately we didn't spot it! Thankfully we're only on a table in the spare room and the fate of larger games aren't in our hands 😅 Welcome back after so long! 😃 btw if you are returning and need inspiration try the FB group, "Subbuteo - Alive and Flicking". In my opinion it's the best and most helpful and friendly subbuteo group out there.
@@subbuteo-gameoftheday4878 fair play. Yep agree with everything you say about VAR. if neither of you noticed, then stay with the onfield decision lol. Will check out the group. First job is going in the loft and finding my box of teams (both the 80’s lightweight ones that I bought, plus the HW ones I inherited from my older brother) can’t remember how much was intact.
hi! You don't use basic subbuteo rules! For example: at 2.48 minuite, the yellow figure inside the goal, shouldn;t be placed at the shooting line, but at the goal area line. At 2.15 minute you placed a red figure standing at the side line at the centre of the shooting area without any reason!
Hi, yes you're right, apologies. We have a video on our own take on the subbuteo rules on the channel that might help. In essence, we love subbuteo, but we try to create it as close to the real game as we can (hence the crowd effects, stadium, commentary etc). The Sunderland player, Niall Quinn, was off the pitch on a Norwich throw. He was placed there as realistically he would retake his position as target man off the ball, not wait at the side of the field. However, the Norwich (yellow) player was put there for a similar reason, but I think you are right. I'll suggest an amendment to Chris, as when I rewatched he ended up influencing the attack when realistically he shouldn't have been anywhere near. A good spot and an improvement on our version of the rules so thank you :) I'll suggest the amendment that you cannot be placed back in play if you are off the pitch whilst your team is still attacking, but you can if you're defending. That was it's more realistic to football and is a bit more like subbuteo, what do you think? 🤔 Hopefully you've enjoyed what we've created though! Not quite purist subbuteo or FISTF but still the hobby in an entertaining format 😃
@@subbuteo-gameoftheday4878 nowdays there are two sets of subbuteo rules. The Fistf rules, and the old subbuteo rules. In my opinion there is no reason to create our set of rules as we have already two of them!. Because people watch these videos and cannot understand. During my school years (back in 80s in my hometown Piraeus) we used to have our own rules. But we were a small group of players without any contact with players out of the neigborhood. Now all the players can contact each other from the social medea. Bye and regards!!!
@xrhkotro3884 I'm glad you enjoyed things your way in the 80s and get the most out of the game for you. We understand that Game of the Day isn't for everyone; the beautiful thing about the Internet is there's a place for all of us. We put our project up so we could enjoy watching it back, and we ended up accidentally finding a following and people who enjoy our content. It's never going to make money, and it's purely for enjoyment of those who watch it. I'm sure those who watch have the rule books or can find them, which is why we explain to people we have tweaks to make a hobby suit us more. Naturally, I'm sure there's other RUclips channels who conform to what you prefer, and don't include bits in them such as a VAR moment, or a mass brawl, and filmed goal celebrations etc. Not conventional, but stuff we do for fun. Just want to say thanks for taking a look, and it's nice to have a respectful conversation with someone on the Internet which is quite rare these days when opinions differ 😊 all the best good sir and keep on flicking!
Tense game could have gone either way, good to see Sunderland lifting some silverware, very enjoyable. Happy New Year to you both 🎉

Thank you kind sir and thanks for watching:)
