Would this work relatively on a 2001. Mine goes into drive, reverse, and neutral. But when it runs, it makes a sound almost like I'm pushing the gas pretty hard but I'm not. And it won't even manually go to 2nd. I don't know what gear it's stuck on, but I do know I'm screwed.... please help

Do you have the same code? Because from your description it sounds like it's doing the same thing mine was doing. If your has the same problem mine did, and from what I understand it's fairly common on the 42RE transmission, It should fix it since no matter the year they're all going to have that same pressure sensor and solenoid. Probably work on the 44RE and 46RE as well, with the correct parts.

Dear Chuck, what kind of tool You used to check fault codes? Some kind of obd diagnostic device? Thanks

I've got a thing that plugs into the ADL plug under the dash and connects via bluetooth to an app on my phone called Torque. It can read the fault codes, reset them and display all the vehicle sensors on a nice screen in several different formats including gauges. The one I own is 5+ years old and you can't buy them anymore, but there's a lot of similar items. I'll put an amazon link to one below that gets good reviews. I'd avoid the really cheap Elm 327 devices, specially the transparent blue ones, I had several of those and had nothing but trouble with them.

@@3rdpig thank You for prompt and comprehensive reply! I have similar tool but it shows only basic data like coolant temp etc. No access to transmission system. Only engine with simple information. So this is the reason why I’ve asked about it, I supposed that is something special for transmission. Thank You for a link I will try with Your tool and torque app. Greetings from Poland, WJ owner 🤝

@@3rdpig and I have similar opinion about elm 327. I don’t know who is using it 😀

Do you have a link to that drain plug and solenoid set? I am in the process of doing just this project. Great video, thanks for sharing your experience.

Sold a many of the governor solenoids and transducers back in those days. Common on the trucks as well.
OEM replacement gasket is a reusable design. Plastic with silicone bead embedded in it. Supposed to be reusable up to 10 times (I think.)

If I was already gonna put in a drain plug, I think i would have drilled or punched a hole in that spot to drain it out first. I can see why you didn't though.

I hear you, and I suppose if I knew exactly where I wanted the hole and had a stop on the bit so I couldn't accidently run it in deep enough to damage wires or other fragile internal parts I might do it, but is it really worth the risk? It's a sucky enough job as it is laying on my back in the dirt, I don't want to make it worse by having to repair something I damaged. And while I don't want to sound paranoid, the world really is out to get me, why provide it extra opportunities? Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@3rdpig I figured that's why you did it that way. Check out my Jeep in my avatar. It's my daily driver 1974 CJ5. I did a TOTAL restomod. 4BT Cummins, 4 speed with auxiliary overdrive, I put in front disc brakes, power steering, and power brakes. I did a LOT of work cutting and moving things on the front axle to gain caster but still have a good driveline angle. I thought you'd appreciate it being a Jeep guy yourself. Take care!
