You know how silly that sounds! The date is a BEST USED BY DATE and food does not automatically spoil or go bad once that date hits. As many hungry people as there are in this world that entire thinking is plain stupidity! Secondly, you don't have to work in the food industry to understand this - it is simple common sense. Back to donuts - those donuts were made THAT DAY - that is a waste of consumable items that could help the less fortunate. We have to get out of this worry of litigious mindset and use our brains to do the RIGHT THING!

@@PsycheVFX But it will cause damage in their food industry. They will lose more customers since they will be able to get their donuts for free at the local charity instead of buying them. Sure, it's bad business practice, "profits, profits blah blah"... but it's still food going to waste when millions of people can't feed themselves enough in the US, and that's still pretty disgusting and shady to see even for someone like me who likes money a lot. You guys just need to pass laws to force good behavior and company practices around food distribution and consumption. As an example, in France, multiple laws have passed to force businesses (restaurants and stores) to prevent waste (such as stop to cook if the thing cooked ain't selling or always asking the customer if he wants a doggy bag to take home), make something of waste that hasn't gone bad either by giving it to an association or reusing it to cook future things, and if it has gone bad use it to make compost or feed animals. Aditionally, it's forbidden to throw or destroy food that's still good for human consumption, and if your business is big enough (either by size or money made per year) you must have a program to collaborate with a food aid association to give your waste and ensure the quality of what you're giving. There are even regulations around those lines in the industry/massive food production sectors. And even with all of those measures, it's still not perfect (notably because its difficult to enforce them everywhere, but most business go along with it), but we're on the right track. Thing's haven't gone terribly for businesses here, people are still buying, enjoying.
In Texas, they got a donut place called Shipleys and they sell whole bags of day old donuts for $1. Used to snag those on the way to work and we would eat like kings!
We need to make a new law, something similar to the Good Samaritan law, such as where drug users who are overdosing cannot be arrested to prevent people from dying. A law that would offer legal protection from accidental food poisoning would give businesses incentives to give away their food at the end of the day. “The good business act” could be the name.
@@Hotdogenthusiast btw like maybe they stop doing that becouse then all the people would wait when they will throw away? Maybe that is the reason too.

Also another reason why they can't give them away to regular consumers is bc people would stop buying them and just wait to get them for free

Guys I worked at Dunkin Donuts, the trash bags have dust and the plastic coating can come off on the donuts, I don't recommend this because most dumpsters have bugs that will crawl on food and than contaminate them, even if they seemed tightly tied up. Please DO NOT GO INTO THE DUMPSTER. Most of the time the donuts are thrown into a trash bag that is also being mixed with dirt and trash at random intervals. Fun story: Panera Bread does the same. When I was in college there was a guy that would come around every Sunday. He went around and collected all the bread about to be tossed and he would put it huge garage bags on a cart he connected to his bike and would distribute it among the local colleges, homeless shelters and halfway houses. There would be loaves of bread, pastries, cookies, donuts, you name it. He said he used to struggle in college and so he wanted to help those that couldn’t afford a lot or anything at all. The man was a legend to us.

Companies avoid lawsuits. If a person gets very sick because of the donuts then the company is liable. So it's better to not give it at all and just throw them out to avoid a lawsuit.

@@saviour254t9 not really the only reason. The main reason is probably because people would abuse tf out of that system and just wait at the end of the day to get free food, even if they have the means to buy it.
It's because of possible lawsuits. I read that they companies used to give away the extras to homeless shelters at the end of the day but someone got "sick" and sued them so the practice stopped.
They can't give them to people but you can quite literally do the exact thing they did and just grab them out of the trash. Nothing is stopping anyone from doing it.
Yea basically the reason why is because everything has a shelf life predetermined by someone else and anything after that shelf life given to customers would make the company liable for any food borne illness that one may get from eating that food
There is a mall where they have a bakery kind of shop that gives everything at fifty percent off after 9pm. They also make an announcement in the whole mall about it. They sell all of it sells out by 9:15 pm.
I used to work at dunkin 2 years ago and they do this everyday. The reason is because of the yeast in the bread it rises overnight and “could get people sick” because you’re under light. I gave homeless people almost everything I would double bag the donuts, bagels, etc so when I threw them in the trash they would still be clean so they can eat them and get the after hours. This is true of most bakeries. But it's up to the manager's discretion what happens. My first job was at Panera, and my boss donated ALL the baked goods to homeless shelters at the end of each and every day. He's still the best boss I've ever had.

Krispy Kreme actually sells their leftover doughnuts to local farmers to feed their pigs. And I used to cook at a hotel that sold Krispy Kremes. Unfortunately, this was durong the beginning of the low carb movement so we had dozens left at the end of the day. They'd bring them to the kitchen and we'd put them in the break room and take them home. The hotel manager realized how much money we were losing, so we had to figie out ways to utilize them in the kitchen. I was the primary dessert cook, so i got creative. I started making bread pudding, milkshakes, made a dessert called Krispy Creme, Creme Brulee with a glazed goughnut baked in, strawberry shortcakes, beer battered fried doughnuts, we were making Luther Burgers, grilled cheese. When I was homeless..I had a relationship where I just waited out side end of the night..and they basically let me take what ever I wanted from the bin and then would dump the rest
The kitchen I work for has the same rule, that before closing we can't give away bread for free. But the reason is because local farmers have a deal, so they pick up our leftover bread as extra feed for their cows. Our leftover cake is mixed with rum to make rum-balls, and we then sell those a day later. If that isn't sold, we either take them home ourself, or sell them at a massive discount at like 80% off, and then we throw them out. But we rarely need to mark them down anyways, as they sell quite well.

With a video like this.. they’ll probably start implementing locks on dumpsters thanks to this.
Many of the stores do they just give them to the people that walk in at the end of the day, usually kids if they bought one. They will get a dozen
If they start giving it for free, the marketing and profit will fall since no one will want to waste money on donuts which they can get it for free at the end of the day.

Used to snag those on the way to work and we would eat like kings!
one of the reasons why food shops stopped giving food away is because people claimed they got food poisoning and sued the place
And also because employees would make more than necessary just for freebies at the end of the day
We need to make a new law, something similar to the Good Samaritan law, such as where drug users who are overdosing cannot be arrested to prevent people from dying.
Yep. I worked at a small 5 star hotel and we used to serve some of the most amazing and expensive food for Sunday brunch. They claimed that can’t have a lawsuit for food poisoning so everything went in trash. America has a problem with food waste. 😢
Another reason why is bc people would pick them up and resell them they can't have that on a daily w so many consumers who could possibly do so ...they should donate them though so sad to see waste like that of any food .
Also another reason why they can't give them away to regular consumers is bc people would stop buying them and just wait to get them for free
Man, they can literally feed many homeless people with that much donuts.
They can't, or if they did , they would get fired

Guys I worked at Dunkin Donuts, the trash bags have dust and the plastic coating can come off on the donuts, I don't recommend this because most dumpsters have bugs that will crawl on food and than contaminate them, even if they seemed tightly tied up. Please DO NOT GO INTO THE DUMPSTER. Most of the time the donuts are thrown into a trash bag that is also being mixed with dirt and trash at random intervals. Don't think these people are smart, they are EXTREMELY disgusting.

Same thing happened to me and a friend when I was 14😂

It's because of possible lawsuits. I read that they companies used to give away the extras to homeless shelters at the end of the day but someone got "sick" and sued them so the practice stopped.
That’s disgusting that they “can’t give them away”. I don’t care if that’s the managers decision or corporate, something has to change

They can't give them to people but you can quite literally do the exact thing they did and just grab them out of the trash. Nothing is stopping anyone from doing it.
