My son-in-law is a Marine and this has taken the abject terror out of putting on his new stripes/patches. Thank you very much. I wish I had looked you up 3 years ago.
Thank you for this video! My Tailor turned out to be unreliable so I'm stuck with a rush job for the marine corp ball. I'll be visiting this video many times until i got it memorized for myself. Thanks again!
This is probably THE best hand stitch video I’ve watched yet!! The only video that showed how to sew within the ribbing of the patch as opposed to going around the outside edges. In my opinion, it just looks much cleaner. Also, well done on the measuring and tacking stitch to hold the patch in place!
This was super helpful. The tailor's chalk and hand basting saved me tons of time based on previous patch-sewing days. I used a quart jar stuffed in the sleeve to give support and don't think I got close to 6-7 stitches/inch. :) Really thankful!
Really good video. I'm Army, not USMC, but either way I think I might take a stab at sewing on my next patch if I ever get promoted. You made it look not-impossible!
I am secretly Gordon Ramseys American son, he doesn't like to talk about. It was a mistake he make while playing soccer before he decided to become a chef.
When I got promoted I would take my chevrons and shirt to a tailor to have my chevrons sewed on. I remember in Okinawa at camp Hansen there would be mamasans who would do our laundry who would also sew our chevrons on for us.
Good job, Andy. Nice of you to take the time to help our "brothers" and "sisters". Looking for some info since you seem well-informed. Blood stripes. P1020.34g doesn't explain where to sew them onto the Blue trousers (regardless of what others might suggest). Do you have access to the TM-10120-15/- (alterations manual)? My real question is whether the stripe is actually centered on the outer leg seam or if the trailing (back) edge of the stripe goes along the seam so that it transitions into the pocket without curving? Thanks and Semper Fi. Clark MSGT-USMC (Ret)
I couldn’t see clearly what stitch or how your sewing it. I like this method because it’s not going around the patch on the side. Is their a reference video I can see?
Hello..great video.where can I purchase the nice wood block this type of took, looks as if it was specifically made for tailoring purposes. Also, what is the name of the small "ironing board" or device you placed the tunic sleeve over to correctly position it and do you know where I can purchase them? many thank!
Do you have to do this yourself or is it sewn on for you? Since I was in Navy ROTC which is partnered with the Marines, I can go in as an E-2. Would I get my dress blues with the chevron on it?
www.wawak.com/Sharps-Hand-Needles-St-Thomas-Sons-Size-6 I use a 6 or 9 sharp for most of my handwork. Don't buy any of the singer needles at target or wal-mart they're crap.
On the hash stripe what do they mean by lower point of bottom stripe meets point of pipping 30 degrees on esch sleeve can someone tell me in centimeters
not USMC but USN , how do i modify a 1st class (3 chevrons) into a 3rd class (1 chevron)? do i cut the badge or fold it? and if i fold, how do i do it?
As a civil war reenactor who just got promoted to corporal, this is a life saver, thank you!

hope it went well
I'm here 2 years later, and I'm using this to help restore a Russian VDV uniform and this is still a good tutorial.
glad I could help out.
@@AHardy21 Glad I found the video!
You look like Gordon Ramsey
Damn you beat me to it! 👍

This is a very good instructional video!
Thank you. I plan to join the USMC!

@@AHardy21 what about the drill instructor? Have you ever yelled by them before?

I do not have the manual but any marine recruiter should have access to one.
Thank you!
thank you
doing my 1st application of Military patches (Chevron , Stripes, Blood strip) your video helped enormously !!!!! now i need video on stripes

Search "Backstitch" on YT. It is the strongest hand stitch.
I didn’t know Gordon Ramsey sews patches
1.56...You put an angle in there with no explanation...Why?...and what was the angle?
Casey niestat at the opening?
yes

Kurt Kesslinger the wood piece is called a Tailors Point, and the small “ironing board” is known as a sleeve board
Both are available on Wawak Sewings' site

you won't be able put on E-2 until the end of bootcamp and the ladies at the uniform shop will do it for you.
when you move up a rank, if you still have old blues then yes you have to have the old ink removed an the new on put on.
what kind of needle do you use to get through the patches? The ones I have aren't strong enough.

if you already have chevrons on the uniform could you mark said chevron and sew in place of that
Yes!
@@AHardy21 aye thanks

I was like Gordon Ramsey? then nah almost
lol
Does this only apply to the dress blues or also service alphas and khaki shirts??
would be the same
I like your poor lighting.
Sorry about that
How do marines get the creases to look so sharp through the rank patches on a dress shirt?
a sleeve board and a clapper should help you'll want a heavy iron too. I would recommend taking them to a cleaner and have them use a press.
Andy Hardy thanks for that info, for sure sounds like a costly adventure doing it on my own so I will for sure be using that dry cleaners option.
I thought the corps did it. I suppose I’m wrong.
usually they send you to a tailor
this should be done by an on base seamstress

clearly Romes
