I don't think ppl that recycle are being cheap, he also brought things they didn't need....I think the idea of reusing stuff as different things is really cool! We wouldn't find things like this outside, where I live...
To me he's just practical about their financial situation and lifestyle. He's still in the process of establishing himself in SK and not raking in money left and right. It's not like he's depriving his wife and baby with material things, but not just buying them branded items. There's nothing wrong with that. He makes me laugh though when he bargains, but I gotta admit, he's got better bargaining skills than I do.
Jorn is a true Dutch-man. Frugal as can be...and how can you argue with his logic about the diaper bag? Too funny! Wish him the best of luck in his new homeland. Leaving the family in the Netherlands is tough; no bitterballen, kroketten or Gouda kaas, but hello stroopwafels! good job Jorn!
I actually understand Jorn's point of view. As Fabien said, it's part of the European culture (and even more North European) to reuse things, to do flea markets, antiques... Especially Jorn, who is an artist : he's attracted to old objects, senses the artistic and harmonious vibe in them. That's like the Scandinavian esthetic. If you look at their apartment, it's full with wood furniture. Dutch (and Scandinavians) have their own way of raising children, and it's well known that they're the most happy, educated and blooming children in Europe. Why would Jorn pay 2500$ for a high class post-natal room with massages, shooting when he could do all these himself ? He's a recognized photograph ! Anyway, I find this couple cute, they have a great harmony, and I think that they'll make a wonderful family !
In Central Europe it's mostly furniture and clothes. Most of clothes I have got when growing up used to be someone elses. Also England is full of charity shops, but people over here seems to go more for brands.
Man, how stupid you are! Do you think Jorn's Dutch/Scandinavian values and ethic, never mind post-maternity plans have anything to do with his Korean wife? She is NEITHER Dutch NOR Scandinavian, never mind white NOR even western in mindset, outlook, attitude, experience, culture, upbringing, nor education. On the other hand, post-natal tradition in East Asia is culture bound and is actually crucial in dealing with Post-Partum Depression (PPD). Case in point: the PPD rate in Western countries is out of control, and westerners still haven't figured out how to handle it. Interestingly enough, It's not an issue in Korea and other East Asian countries, b/c women's culture and women's traditions addresses these issues and nips it in the bud for the benefit of the mother and baby, and ultimately, the family too. Jorn is just way, way too selfish, egotistical, arrogant, ignorant, stupid and devoid of comprehension to understand this. That is why his wife has to be adamant and insist upon what she believes is right. You cannot afford to go cheap when having a baby in Korea. Yes, hospital costs are already subsidized by an extremely affordable and well-organized single-payer National Insurance System in Korea. Also, typically 2/3 the cost of any elective procedures or optional post-maternity care costs can be covered by additional health insurance. Jorn's penny-pinching, skinflint, miserly attitude is unseemly and counterproductive.
@@gotwa229 Calling him selfish and egotistical after giving up a succesful career to be with his family is kind of strange... I get where you're coming from, post-natal care is very important and it's important to be sensitive to both cultures in a relationship, but you're ignoring his cultural perspective completely. In the Netherlands, 1/3 of babies are even born at home. The father is always present during the birth. The first few weeks are seen as a bonding period between the baby and it's parents, where bonding with the father is almost as crucial as bonding with the mother. Not living with your baby for the first two weeks of it's life, missing those important first weeks, would be awful for him. Having a baby is all about the baby first, and about the mother second. And this brings issues such as PPD of course, but making it about the mother first makes for family dynamics where children don't feel emotionally connected to both parents equally, which would feel like a terrible thing to do to your child. That's what he meant by 'I'm just a visitor here'. I think both parents are unable to communicate why they want to do it in their specific way.
This is not a cultural issue, but a personal one. Unless you are the one physically having the baby, you don't get to choose what or how she gets to do things after giving birth. Period.
What a beautiful couple! I wish them the best. Jorn is such a sweetheart and really strong for trying hard to adapt to his wife's culture. I do hope they get their own reality show. I would definitely like to watch how they grow as a family =)
Hope he gets a job at an advertising agency because of his talent. Great potential there. He can be gainfully employed and care for his family. Must be hard to leave your career, homeland and family to pursue love in another family. Korea, give him a chance but do understand you need to provide creative space. True there are things that just can't be rushed
Jorn seems like a really great, kind and romantic guy. It seems like the Korean women who are married to Waygoogen (Foreign) men have different standards. If Hyeousuk had married a Korean man I'm pretty sure she would have asked the following questions: What is your job?, Do you work for big company? Do you have high income? Do you have a new car? Do you own an apartment? Would you favor me over your mother ? during the first date. Lastly could you imagine if a Korean man had bought anything less than the most expensive high chair from Lotte Mall for a pregnant Korean woman. All hell would have broken loose. Oh well, I hope they are happy.
i think thats the thing with korean women unrealistic dating style. its too women-centred. sometimes i pity the guys. But then korean have the drinking culture with their company and i dont understand how they can go out 5 times a week and go home at wee hours. Totally not family oriented. In my country ppl do drink but we dont have company drinking culture except once in a while for occassions. and most men are family oriented and make sure they spend time with their family after work.
Seems like the Netherlands attitude is very similar to Australias. Maybe thats why our countries are near the top of the list for human development index. Live frugally and within your means. I find brands so stupid and meaningless. The name doesnt make the product any better. I will buy a bag of good quality that looks good and will hold my stuff just fine for the best price possible. Its not like because I pay $10,000 for a bag it becomes indestructible and has a magic never ending size inside. You only pay that much for a shallow idea of "looking cool" for other people. I would rather save that money to gain life experiences with family by traveling and doing fun activities.
I buy designer clothes from thrift shop hahaha Because the original price was unreasonable hahaha. Beside that I'm accounting student and calculating the production cost became my habit before shopping lol. Recently i found a shoes that originally $110 for $23. I love thrift shop hahaha
Yeah thats the way :) When I buy things I often translate the cost of the item into time spent to make that much money. I would think would I really want to work for a complete week just to get this item? If yes then I get it if not then I dont.
+Trananism lol, I do the same thing to save money. I calculate how many hours I have to work in order to pay for something. I also research whether such and such brand is worth buying or would a lesser brand/no brand is much a better buy. I would never buy a branded, let's say handbag or shoes, just because it's the trend right now and everyone has got one.
Suki didn't want a "good brand" for the sake of a name brand. She was concerned with the quality of products that could potentially compromise the health of the baby, like the material of the feeding bottles & such. She was not insisting on unnecessary spending.
I got slightly upset when they started messing with the dog xD ....-_-' Seriously though~ What's up with the whole idea that living with a dog is harmful to babies?
I've been waiting for a long time now to see someone from the Netherlands (where I'm from) on the show :) I was hoping they'd speak Dutch but they kept talking English haha. Lots of happiness wishes for the new family of three.
German isn't spoken in the Netherlands. Maybe only a few villages close to the German borders. We all learn German in middle/high school but mostly forget it after that.
I hope they went back to Nederland after a year or 2. From what I have seen here her family looks very stressing. If they stayed in korea i hope Jorn was able for the good of his family to make them understand who is the boss in that home and to not go there too often only to dictate their obsolete rules on them. If they want to help is a thing if they only want to go to stress them out and boss them around like: you have to clean this! You have to give the dog away for some month! You don't have to laze around. Ooooooh! Out of my house!
kyaaaaa finally a Dutch! lmao even me Stroop wafel is mijn favorite after school I always go to the Amsterdam central to buy a warm fresh one hmmm (heerlijk) anyway for the poeple who are saying he's cheap and stuff one thing is for sure he is not bringing trash and buying secondhand stuff doesn't make you cheap. they live in a european style of a house
+Annemies Eens! Ik ben ook gek op stroopwafels. Ik heb ze altijd in huis. Maar, vers zijn ze het lekkerst. Ik was trouwens wel onder de indruk van het feit dat hij ze zelf maakte.
Jorn is a good husband but he's too frugal! His wife is very sweet and understanding but sometimes it's too much! Also some expired foods can be dangerous for your health! I hate to throw away food but I would never eat expired food. It's just better to buy only what you need.
I really like this episode. But i don't agree with her saying that asian women have different bodies so that's why they need extra care. I think she just wanted it because I agree it must be very painful giving birth, but I don't think its because of the difference in race.... I'm sorry didn't mean to offend anyone...still love the episode though
+berlyglobe7 Actually Asian women have a very narrow hip bone structure compared to European women. Giving birth naturally is painful in itself but it is a little more difficult for Asian women plus these two have a pretty healthy baby so it will be even more difficult and painful for the wife. In fact the number of Asian women that opt for C-section is on the rise for similar reasons.
+Hind Hani they have after birth care in Holland as well..they even assign a nurse to you that comes to your house for the first few weeks to help you adjust. the nurse even does the laundry for you if you have a hard time getting out of bed. trust me the Dutch have their act together when it comes to health. too bad i don't live there anymore :/
It makes perfect sense that women with different DNA & environments will have differences in physical, mental, & emotional capacities. It's called epigenetics. Not some made-up nonsense.
cannot believe in-laws are suggesting sending dog away for 3 months after the baby is born!!! what do they think the dog is? a toy?!?! it's a lovely family but I cannot accept this concept they have, seriously...
Can people stop acting like Jorn is representing all of the Netherlands here? Not all Dutch people are like Jorn. Not all Koreans are like Hyeonsuk. But they are a beautiful couple.
damn i find her kinda spoiled tbh. you don't really have to pay that much money to stay at the hospital when you have a great home. i do believe that she deserve things bcus she carries that baby for months but let's not go overboard haha. he is doing a great job being frugal and all. she should really appreciate that. though i really find it very sweet of her to invite his parents. they are a cute couple. haha~
hzel011393 I can see her point of view, she jolly knows marrying him would be having a frugal married life and a frugal upbringing for her kids. So just for that once, let her be 'spoilt' after childbirth.....
@@cheesecake7274 She was a not stay home wife, though. She was teaching English at an English institute in Korea, though. Since she was about to deliver their child soon, she was taking a maternity leave. Did she have to continue working just before their son was born??? You guys are very quick to judge someone based on what you assume.
She is entitled to her preferences, especially after carrying that baby for 9 months. In Korean culture it is customary to recover in such a facility after pregnancy. It's not considered a "luxury". Her spending preferences are very typically Korean. Just because it doesn't reflect your own views or culture doesn't mean she is morally flawed or should be chastised as "spoiled ". Jorn obviously chose her because he deemed her sufficiently attractive & worthy.
Good lord all these foreigners are the one that must sacrifice their successful life back home so their Korean partner don't need to feel homesick. In another episode there was a successful engineer in Europe that working odd jobs in korea because of this problem. And that host declared that south korea have the best medical facilities, did she seriously compared that to the Netherlands?
All of these foreigners chose to live in Korea, no one was coerced forcefully. And yes, the medical facilities are top-notch, efficient, and cost-effective for the most part. This is widely known & acknowledged by many foreigners who have lived both abroad & in Korea.
It's really true though as a design student(exact same scope as his) myself. It's really hard for me to stay focus few hours straight. Creative thinking shouldn't be restricted this way but somehow there are still a lot of companies are using this kind of structure which might not be suitable for all designer.
Jorn is literally me and Suk is my fiance lmao. I always reuse stuffs that are unusable for its original purpose into something else and my fiance always insist on buying something new but I always refuse :')
If my in-laws acted like that, telling me what to do with my dog and my stuff and my baby, they would not be welcome anymore in my home. Massive cultural difference there.
insanlar niyə Jomu bu qədər övüb anlamıram dəli oldum əgər bir uşaq edirsinizsə hər şeyi hesablamış olmalısınız və bi qədərdə pulunuz olmalıdır əgər uşağınıza hər şeyi və hərşeyin ən yaxşısını almağa pulunuz yoxdursa niyə bu uşağı edirsiniz məndə əşyaların 2. dəfə işlədilmsini dəsdəkləyirəm bu şəkildə boş yerə işlədilə biləcək olanı varkən yenisini alıb istehsalatıda artırmış olmazlar mükəmməl ama ehtiyac olunan şeyi almamaq da nə bilim e of içimi tökdüm evləndiyim insanın belə bir problemli biri olduğunu anlasaydım o gün boşanardım
I like how the guy is practical. but i think his practicality can be slightly overboard. I mean its true i dont see a point in all the brands and meaningless baby products since at the end of the day its all about business. but then for baby bottles, i think its more wise to get a new one since baby have low immunity and picking up or getting 2nd hand may not be that favorable in terms of hygiene. And also in long term hen they have 2nd 3rd child they can pass down the bottle. At least its more hygienic that way since you are the one who have been cleaning the bottle and know how clean they are as compared to getting 2nd hand which we dont even know how clesn some people can be in terms of hygiene. And the cafe owner who gave him 3 days to finish the outlook of the cafe is crazy. I mean i know closing for business would means loss of money, but then its crazy. thats europeans and west can always come out with creative idea because they are given time to organize and sought ideas. Korea is all abt fast outcome. which doesnt work in all work industries and they got to unerstand that. And by rushing others you are actually imposing others space and freedom, if you dont have the patient or capability to wait you shouldnt ask for too much.
+ThumbSpaz i agree. any sane mind would have known that such work tskes more than 3 days. Its pure logic man. Nobody have to teach you this. I find it amusing that the korean guy actually think with all that he wants, it can be completed in 3days. I mean like where is his brain?
That gave me such warm feels, they actually were really good together. I wish them happiness.
Awe Jorn is too sweet to his wife although he's cheap. Seeing him cry when he saw his son was the sweetest thing I've ever seen.
hahah that's just the way dutch are

I've met Jorn before. Super nice guy. We were on a game show together.
Your Neighbor Amos oh hello Amos 😉
Oooh hi im rim from mortocco hhh
Omg, I can totally relate with the freezer thing. In my family, if it's going out of date we just chuck it in the freezer - problem solved!
Alexis Blue Me too! And it works so well!😂😂😂
True
Jorn's parents are so funny xD
Europeans habits for not wasting things seems really interesting.
And the baby was soooo beautiful ;-;
Even in Europe the Dutch are femous for being very cheap and taking everyone's furniture by the side of the road 🤣
Это не европейская черта
To me he's just practical about their financial situation and lifestyle. He's still in the process of establishing himself in SK and not raking in money left and right. He makes me laugh though when he bargains, but I gotta admit, he's got better bargaining skills than I do.
Am I the only one who thinks that it'll be interesting for Jorn and Suki to have their own reality tv show? :-)
I hope they make a follow-up episode about them later on! So curious to see how they're doing with the baby. :) loved this episode!

lol they really remind me of my mom and dad! (my mom is indonesian and my dad is dutch)
1:30yeah im jeorn......😂like the way he is starting omg...
Can people stop acting like Jorn is representing all of the Netherlands here? Not all Dutch people are like Jorn. Not all Koreans are like Hyeonsuk. But they are a beautiful couple.
YAAAAAYYY!!! THE NETHERLANDS!!
+BloodSugarBabyShesMagik are you from the netherlands too?
yupp
Alot of dutch people put things that are going to expire soon in the freezer. I myself a dutch womam do that alot too😂
I'm totally going to go to Korea just to give birth, wth.

God! I wouldn't want people involve in my family life.
Oh gosh, Stroopwafels are so good. I love it, didn't know that was Dutch though :x
+TheKnightOfPeanuts Then where did you think they came from?
+delilah9876 I don't know, I didn't even know that was called Stroopwafels, I just called them "caramel waffles".
TheKnightOfPeanuts
AH. OK.
Why are many eps being missed out o.O
Oh y'a fabien qui étais sur la chaîne de Laurent ^°
He's like my chinese friend, very frugal.
One simple question.. How can they learn Hangul like that we really need a show about that really !
Jorn and Suki make such as a beautiful couple. Their baby is so cute too! And is it me or the baby has blue eyes at 50:09?
Disclaimer not all Dutch guys can cook xD or are as romantic as Jorn
damn i find her kinda spoiled tbh. you don't really have to pay that much money to stay at the hospital when you have a great home. i do believe that she deserve things bcus she carries that baby for months but let's not go overboard haha. he is doing a great job being frugal and all. she should really appreciate that. though i really find it very sweet of her to invite his parents. they are a cute couple. haha~
hzel011393 I can see her point of view, she jolly knows marrying him would be having a frugal married life and a frugal upbringing for her kids. So just for that once, let her be 'spoilt' after childbirth.....
@@janjanbeckham8 If she doesn't want to live a frugal life she should earn some money to spend.
Фу, одни жмоты собрались
Good lord all these foreigners are the one that must sacrifice their successful life back home so their Korean partner don't need to feel homesick. In another episode there was a successful engineer in Europe that working odd jobs in korea because of this problem. And that host declared that south korea have the best medical facilities, did she seriously compared that to the Netherlands?
All of these foreigners chose to live in Korea, no one was coerced forcefully. And yes, the medical facilities are top-notch, efficient, and cost-effective for the most part. This is widely known & acknowledged by many foreigners who have lived both abroad & in Korea.
I wonder if he will give the baby beschuit met muisjes 😂😂😂❤
cute couple
The husband seems like a really sweet guy.
What a shame !
Please we need updates!!!!
It's really true though as a design student(exact same scope as his) myself. It's really hard for me to stay focus few hours straight. Creative thinking shouldn't be restricted this way but somehow there are still a lot of companies are using this kind of structure which might not be suitable for all designer.
that Dutch guy pucks things lol
Those are just best before dates. Doesnt mean it is expired.
You're so cool jorn.i love your wife.
People should try to recycle things more. =)
Fabian ♥
Jorn is literally me and Suk is my fiance lmao. I always reuse stuffs that are unusable for its original purpose into something else and my fiance always insist on buying something new but I always refuse :')
What is Zlatan Ibrahimovich doing here?
they are so cute what the heck
now i understand the meaning of "go dutch"
damn cheap as hell
+will00oow not cheap they just have a big culture of reuse and recycle
😂😂😂
Dutch is best
역시 잘사는 나라사람들이 알뜰하고 절약하면서 사는것같다는 생각이드네요.
한국도 엄청 잘사는 나라입니다.
Fabian!! ❤️❤️
If my in-laws acted like that, telling me what to do with my dog and my stuff and my baby, they would not be welcome anymore in my home. Massive cultural difference there.
Haha, yes ... after two minutes of this, I would ask them about their favourite hotel in town.
Anyone from NL would understand him, i am the same.
Yes, and anyone from Korea would understand the wife. Too bad too many ppl criticize her but understand him.
insanlar niyə Jomu bu qədər övüb anlamıram dəli oldum əgər bir uşaq edirsinizsə hər şeyi hesablamış olmalısınız və bi qədərdə pulunuz olmalıdır əgər uşağınıza hər şeyi və hərşeyin ən yaxşısını almağa pulunuz yoxdursa niyə bu uşağı edirsiniz məndə əşyaların 2. dəfə işlədilmsini dəsdəkləyirəm bu şəkildə boş yerə işlədilə biləcək olanı varkən yenisini alıb istehsalatıda artırmış olmazlar mükəmməl ama ehtiyac olunan şeyi almamaq da nə bilim e of içimi tökdüm evləndiyim insanın belə bir problemli biri olduğunu anlasaydım o gün boşanardım
His wife is entitled. Not appreciative of his sacrifice at all
I like how the guy is practical. but i think his practicality can be slightly overboard.
@@twinklestar8498 This is common in Korea. Doesn't make it right, but when in Rome...
