Ray, I have to say that I am REALLY impressed with your boat project. I have gone through all your boat build videos up to this one. I also need to say that I have been involved with the wooden boat building hobby for over 35 years. I see where you have made a few mistakes along your build but HEY, so did I! LOL (Actually I've made some really epic boo boos such as the time when I mixed resin with resin instead of the hardener. Three days later the epoxy still had not set up. I had to clean all the goo with acetone and start completely over. LOL) Anyway, here is one major lesson that I'm sure you have already learned. Ready? The beauty of building your own boat is that YOU GET TO BUILD IT ANY DARN WAY YOU WANT! There is no such as thing as a right or wrong way to do it. So, never let any boat building snobs tell you different. I love your boat. You did GREAT man!
no dude..not yet.. I do have a canal across the road but this is a massive undertaking. Amazing work Ray, I hate to always say it but, like a Boss!! I'm inspired though, I just need to direct it to the things I have on hand...
Ray This was a really badass series of build videos you did on this Plywood Boat.. I enjoyed each and everyone of them. You amaze me with all the talents you have.. Very Impressive mate..Thank you for sharing......Shared..
Thanks Terry!! i think i should have been a boat builder, there is alot of fun in it! i think for a non traditional build it came out pretty nice, even withe the imperfections! i'm finishing it as a runabout so there may be a few more videos on this project.
Awesome, just awesome! Handmade! Wow. Well...now you have a another reason to call out of work, 'cause, a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work, LOL...have fun
Yeah, it does look good, and seems to function well, as it is, but if you say Theresa bit more work to be done, geez, I, now, can't wait to see the end result...lol. Man, keep having fun, and good luck
I don't know much about boats (apart from how to fall out of them) but I have to say I'm really impressed by how stable this was. in the end video could you do a quick cost and time rundown just for us to get an idea. can't wait to see it painted
that's all? that's unbelievable! I'm glad you used ebay fibreglass I have looked at it myself a lot but because I'm not very experienced with the stuff I didn't want to buy it and not be able to use it but the hints you gave for it were great.
yeah that's all so far. wood is about $100, glass was $30, epoxy was the most expensive at $150 but i only used half, seats were ebay as well and they were $100 for the pair.
plywood boats have a habit of siting on top of the water rather than in the water. The engine should change that for sure, and you might need to add front ballast but all in all it looks great
@@RayMAKES Thanks! looking forward to it! there are surprisingly few videos actually showing how to glass the inside... right angles and all that. Would love to see some up close shots of how you approach it. Im looking to build a boat this October as well.
as a hobby after retirement my wife and i started restoring old pontoon boats most the hard ware was stainless so they came apart easy we found out there is a demand for nice looking cheaper pontoon boats we usuall cleared about 3000.00 so it was worth while
When putting a motor on, than first sturdy the stern in and outside, and close the bow about 4-5 feet, but first sturdy the top of the side boards, put in the sturdy sideboards a 1/2 inch doll pin for rowing when out of gas, this go's faster then you think. She is nice and sturdy, but you made a huge huge mistake, you forgot to christening and name her, give her a nice feminine name before you put her in the water again. She's handmade totally for the most by your own hand's so safe voyage!
You and your friend had a lot of fun launching her. Those memories will last a lifetime. Yes, the design has a simple elegance to it.
+Kevin Hornbuckle it was a lot of fun... now I need to finish it! Thanks
What an incredible feeling it must have been stepping into that boat for the first time
+Matthew Cremona absolutely!! I suspect you'll have a similar feeling when you cut the first log on your sawmill!
Ray Pena :: thanks
Beautiful Ray! Looks nice and smooth on the water. 👍
thanks Heath! now i gotta get it finished!
Congrats. No better feeling than to see it stay above water. Nice job.
that is the truth!!
It's coming along great Ray. I can see your excited about it too.
Ya, you built that!
Thanks!! i was very excited about getting to see it in the water!! wait till its finished!
That boat looks really nice. You made the process look so easy.
thanks! now that i got it this far, it felt like the process was easy!
Looks great Ray! Thumbs up.
Thanks Robb! wait till its finished and painted!
home run - can't wait to see the final touches.
thanks Jimmi!! i'm hoping to put a big dent in the final touches this weekend!
I have some vacation time planned - hoping to get some of my gifts made up. -
this is the perfect time to get it done!

David, thank you so much!! you are right i made a few mistakes but it most certainly is MY boat!!! i agree with you 100%
High Five, what a beauty!!! Man, this is such a great series!!!! I'm stoked....
+ESCAGEDO WOODWORKING thanks Eloy! Does this mean you're building a boat next?
no dude..not yet.. I do have a canal across the road but this is a massive undertaking. Amazing work Ray, I hate to always say it but, like a Boss!! I'm inspired though, I just need to direct it to the things I have on hand...
Like a Boss....i like that, lol! maybe you can use the techniques to do a bent plywood project!
I think that is more manageable for me at the moment! I will think on it there are many possibilities ....
always good!
that's a good result on some hard effort cant wait to see it decked out
thanks! i am going to have to layout a few lines to see how it all sits but the deck is going to make this thing look beautiful!
Ray would be nice with stripped planking old skool style
That would be nice....but not budget friendly!
So cool to see this get to this stage Ray! Looks really nice and stable man. Great work!
thanks Paul! now that i know how it sits in the water, i can plan the next stage and get the deck on!
It has to be said AWESOME work Ray
thanks Pat!! i wasn't sure how it was going to come out...I'm pleasantly surprised!

Super impressed Ray the boat looks great in the water. Really smooth in the water dude you nailed man!
Thanks Dan! I'm excited about finishing the bot with the deck....should be interesting
Pretty nice boat you've built.
thanks! i will be finishing it up soon!
The plumb bow and rocker look good.
+onefodderunit thank you
Good for you Ray! ..well done!
thank you
Good job! Nice boat!!
Thanks
love the cool lines Ray, it would be super cool and graceful scaled up to a 24 footer!
David, that is a great idea!!! sounds like a project
Looking good Guys, and interesting tutorial. Im going to build one when my camper trailer is finished,

Nice looking boat, especially considering you built it without plans.
Glad you liked it
I love your boat!
Thanks, new videos finishing it coming soon
Now I have another thing on my to do list!
awesome!
Great work on it
Thanks
Awesome, just awesome! Handmade! Wow. Well...now you have a another reason to call out of work, 'cause, a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work, LOL...have fun
Thanks Eddie! i still have a bit more work to do to finish it but it does look good on the water!
Yeah, it does look good, and seems to function well, as it is, but if you say Theresa bit more work to be done, geez, I, now, can't wait to see the end result...lol. Man, keep having fun, and good luck
sure will!!!
Nice boat !
+riotagus thanks... it's nearing completion. Just released part 10 yesterday
Ray Pena
Thank you ,i saw it today,.Great job.
man!!! cant wait to see it with an outboard and moving!!!
I know what you mean, I'm excited about it as well. I'm painting the bottom today then flipping it over for the inside and deck work
I don't know much about boats (apart from how to fall out of them) but I have to say I'm really impressed by how stable this was. in the end video could you do a quick cost and time rundown just for us to get an idea. can't wait to see it painted
thanks! i think that is a good idea (cost break down). to this point between wood, glass, epoxy, and the seats...i have about $300 in it!
that's all? that's unbelievable! I'm glad you used ebay fibreglass I have looked at it myself a lot but because I'm not very experienced with the stuff I didn't want to buy it and not be able to use it but the hints you gave for it were great.
yeah that's all so far. wood is about $100, glass was $30, epoxy was the most expensive at $150 but i only used half, seats were ebay as well and they were $100 for the pair.
correction: the seats were $90 for the pair, i just checked!
Wow that was a steal, well worth the money
Simple and beautiful !
Thabk you, hope to have it finished soon
NICE WORK!
thanks!!
Awesome my friend it looks very good y un tremendo trabajo Maestro it looks good in the neighborhood bro lol :)
+TJ'S WOODWORKING SHOP thanks TJ!!! No one is more surprised than I am that this little boat turned out so well!!
With no experience bro you the man, awesome job my friend i like it SIR :)
congrats... its a nice feeling isn't it!
sure is, thanks!! now time to finish the job!
as a novice builder myself i think you did a fine job i would like to add 1 change raise those seats and go for it
i was thinking of discomfort of sitting with your rear lower than your knees makes it hard to get up .
Glad you liked it
plywood boats have a habit of siting on top of the water rather than in the water. The engine should change that for sure, and you might need to add front ballast but all in all it looks great
good info thanks! i think the front seat will be the drivers seat and i will pull it a bit forward.
Where's that bottle of champagne on Board the ship? Congratulations!!! Like!
i should have! I'll save that for the true maiden voyage with the wife!
How long is the boat? And how tall is the sides?
+Johnnie Webster the boat is 12' and the sides are 12" high. Part 1 covers a lot of the details
Did you glass the inside?
its in the plan, hopefully as soon as spring comes aorund
@@RayMAKES Thanks! looking forward to it! there are surprisingly few videos actually showing how to glass the inside... right angles and all that. Would love to see some up close shots of how you approach it. Im looking to build a boat this October as well.
I'll be sure to take close up video
as a hobby after retirement my wife and i started restoring old pontoon boats most the hard ware was stainless so they came apart easy we found out there is a demand for nice looking cheaper pontoon boats we usuall cleared about 3000.00 so it was worth while
Awesome
one more thing. if you seal the inside with marine grade spar... and maybe drop a little purified sand, it will not mold and will be non slip
Good idea
Jw? Why no glass on the inside?
yes i will be putting glass on the inside, just haven't gotten to that yet
Hey, it floats and you can fish from it. You got yerself a boat there, Bubba.
yes i do!! thanks
can you put a sail on it?
i dont think i would, it is too light for a sail
@@RayMAKES thanks
Love it
Thanks
lol is this johnson pond in nc?
lol, no it's a pond in Delaware
That looks like the most unstable boat ever lol
looks can be deceiving, my clear boats are much worse
sweet...
thanks! glad you liked it. hopefully ill be finishing it very soon
Nice. you have room to build storage
Yes indeed
Didn't you prepare the inside of the boat? Water will come in always you know, and if there is one thing that plywood can't stand and that's water!
+Arend Wolbers thus was just a water test to see how it sits....I still need to finish it, to include epoxy coating the inside.
OKE!
Bawah sampan harus dipasang sirip memanjang setinggi 10 cm/15 cm untuk penahan beban kanan dan kiri.
Glad you liked it

She's handmade totally for the most by your own hand's so safe voyage!
thanks! i will do a proper christening when she goes for a real voyage, since this was just to check the waterline it doesn't really count!
It be forgiven by our king, King Neptune;-))
Even turds float lol
Not cool
Always a joker
Where are your life jackets?????????
i have them, but this was just a float test close to the shore
