Jens didn't ran out of gas... he was just enjoying the view at the summit, he was shaking his head at the end cause bunch people are blocking his view ;P
I don't even know where to start, if you actually expected a video of a guy killing himself you have problems. Maybe you don't even know who jens voigt is that may have led to confusion
Jens Voigt (19) was in the front group before he dropped down to his team leader Andy Schleck (11). He pulled his team leader up the Col de Madeleine at full speed, so the Schleck could save strength for later in the race. The thing that makes it impressive is that even though Jens had already spent a lot of energy getting in the breakaway group earlier, he still had enough power to make a difference for his team leader. As you can see he fights till there is only enough for himself to finish.
Jens Voigt ... I am proud just plain proud that I do live in the same century as you do. You the perfect example of a teamplayer that gives everything for his teammates.. Champs come and go.. but your name will always be something special for all riders.
We say "killed himself" but i can assure that what he just did in this climb hurts more than death. They are hurting since the beginning of the stage but when a tough guy make those faces it means he is under absolute torture
What most don't know is that he ended up stopping completely just before the summit, gathered himself, and then caught and led Andy and Alberto down the rest of the descent.
thank you for this. I've been searching everywhere for this footage. Amazing clip. I remember watching this on the telly live thinking, "my God, I've never seen that kind of selfless suffering before!"
Despite Contador's suspect sportsmanship, I have to admit his riding is SO aesthetic. The way he dances on the pedals and never contorts his face in pain.
I recently met Jens while riding. I was donning a UAE emirates jersey (i am not on the team, obviously) and stopped on the side of the road. Jens approached me from a nearby shop and asked if I actually rode for emirates to which I replied no. Very nice guy, I did t find out it was Jens until over a month later when I realized he participated in the Tour de Tucson, a local race in my town.
This shows the difference of tactics before and today. At this stage of the race, we see trains of super domestiques to bring their leader at the finish line. Before, we just see 3 or 4 man breakaway. Much exciting to watch today for sure because of the teamwork involved.
Oh Jens, he's indestructible, reliable, he has the most positive spirit of all, and a great sense of humor. It makes me smile to see this familiar face, every time I see Voigt himself in front of the peloton, dragging it through the stage. I believe he's one of the best out there, and I hope he wins a few stages before he finally decides to quit racing.
I cheered for Jens in his final road race in Colorado last year and almost cried at how awesome it was to see. That said, if any of you think he was a clean racer I believe you are silly.
Where he finds the power in his legs long after us normal climbers are slowly making are way to the back of the pack as our job is done for the day is absolutly beyond me! Beautiful yet terrifying climber! Cheers Jens!
later on this race contador couldnt pull away from andy despite his best efforts until later he atks when andys chain pops off. he wins this tour by exactly the same amount of time he gained throwing out the unwritten rules when it suits him most....then gets stripped of title.
yuenglingking Yeah I think by now the "chaingate" scandal has subsided and it's clear that neither Schleck brother is even close to Contador. All of these guys in this video are dopers so I'd say the playing field was fairly even.
When was Contador ever clean ? Yet he continues to get press and others get destroyed ...funny how that works , just one reason that I despise Contador
"Shut up, legs" - Jeng Voigt. Jens is a legend. There cannot be any doubt about it. Andy would have been a legend too, if his knee would have let him continue his career. Contador (and another dopers) do not deserve any fame.
Viewing these funny old clips to slake my thirst for bike racing in these unusual days... A wonderful little snippet here of some real riders... But do I take it that you think Schleck(s) and Voigt rode clean? These guys are heroes of mine, but everything about their extraordinary exploits during the GTs and other racers says "juiced". Heroes. Legends. But just like Bertie they are juiced heroes and legends.
jens voigt was a damn beast. andy was too but as far as the pure aggresion that would tear up the field- voigt would always kill it rather it be in the cross winds or the climbs
@Alex Paulsen so you clicked on a video because the title mentioned someone killing themselves and you were disappointed when it was not a literal suicide? Then you call the video's owner a disgusting creature... I think you might be a little backwards there buddy.
yeah, thats what happens.. but to tell the story like 10 min b4 this time on the stage, Jens V. was in a breakaway! using his strenght on that, and THEN he uses last of his "life" helping his captain! its gr8!
And Jaksche. He told a lot of stuff about what went down in CSC. But let's be honest now. Yeah, the evidence isn't big in Voigt's case and he dodged the bullet on those 2004 EPO retests. But we both know he did use EPO. I mean, you aren't that stupid to think Voigt was the only guy not using it and winning, right? Especially with his 80 kg body. Heavier people benefit more from EPO.
his "pacing him" up the hill. this is a normal duty, actually, its sole purpose for a domistique up climbs, to help the team leader save energy by pacing him up the hill.
Or in the case of Armstrong, if you are the big name, a name that brings in fans and money, you will be protected by just about any means. That plus paying off the UCI to hide numerous failed drug tests seems to do the trick as well.
Depends - sometimes they can ride in upwards of 20 mph on some parts, depending on the gradient. There's also a psychological benefit as well even if there's not much of a physical benefit.
Yes i suppose grinding on the front up a whole climb could take its toll on a leader, rather than sitting on a teammates wheel so they can relax and stay fresh
So glad contador is banned atm, he's good at climbing and I admire that but he just seems unfriendly and unhappy all of the time, dunno if this is the case for others lol, thanks for the vid btw
Jens didn't ran out of gas... he was just enjoying the view at the summit, he was shaking his head at the end cause bunch people are blocking his view ;P
Nice!!!
Did anyone else see his tactics for paris roubaix?
1-attack
2-go fast
3-attack again
4-go faster
No seriously, that's true!!
Jens Voigt, true Warrior! Respect from Brasil.
Jens Voigt is one of the greatest riders ever. A true man and warrior.
why does this have dislikes? The video is showing a man working entirely for someone else, trying hard to help a team member!
I don't even know where to start, if you actually expected a video of a guy killing himself you have problems. Maybe you don't even know who jens voigt is that may have led to confusion
David Robertson It's misleading you hypocrite.
+David Robertson
from Lance jockstrappers
+David Robertson Hahaha well said mate.
The title is ridiculous.

They were that young?

Wow ! I've never seen a walking bottle !! LOL
Jens Voigt ... I am proud just plain proud that I do live in the same century as you do. You the perfect example of a teamplayer that gives everything for his teammates.. Champs come and go.. but your name will always be something special for all riders.
I almost started to cry watching this video. Jens, what a hero!

Climbing is fun tho
Jan just thinks "SHUT UP LEGS" and keeps going
The leg are not the problem here. Actually Jens has too much leg to keep up with schleck and Contador. here.
Been looking everywhere for this video...THANK YOU!!
What most don't know is that he ended up stopping completely just before the summit, gathered himself, and then caught and led Andy and Alberto down the rest of the descent.
"Voigt" actually pronounces "Fohgt", more or less rhyming with "poked". In case you're interested.

Who does not like Jens Voigt? Legend.

I really miss this Trio in the Peloton
Miss you PAUL Sherwen💕. Jens was incredible!!
I cheered for Jens in his final road race in Colorado last year and almost cried at how awesome it was to see. That said, if any of you think he was a clean racer I believe you are silly.
That man is such a pain pig. He's the ultimate team mate.
Jens rode 17 Tours De France! That alone is like 37,000 miles. The man knows how to suffer! 👹
A clean hardworking rider. Respect Jensie!!
"Clean" 🤣
All that hard work & the team-mate cant even take first at the summit...
The team mate is drafting being on someone's wheel is a tactic
Where he finds the power in his legs long after us normal climbers are slowly making are way to the back of the pack as our job is done for the day is absolutly beyond me! Beautiful yet terrifying climber! Cheers Jens!
Jens, the racer's racer. "Shut up, legs!"
i only ever remember Bertie in the tinkfoff saxo kit
later on this race contador couldnt pull away from andy despite his best efforts until later he atks when andys chain pops off. he wins this tour by exactly the same amount of time he gained throwing out the unwritten rules when it suits him most....then gets stripped of title.

karma
Andy and Alberto have the same numbers again this year. Jens is pure awesomeness.
Jens Voight is a 100% top bloke hard to imagine anyone better to have in your corner.
Both Jens and Andy look like they are in pain and meanwhile, Contador looks like he is having a ride in the park. He must have been doping then.
+Pinar Ozge sunglasses can cover the facial expression sometimes.
When was Contador ever clean ? Yet he continues to get press and others get destroyed ...funny how that works , just one reason that I despise Contador
All three of them were on drugs.
sevenrats Jens is clean....maybe schleck was but definitely not jens
I'd like to believe that but if he was clean he wouldn't be pulling those two drug heads up the mountain. They were ALL doping!
"Shut up, legs" - Jeng Voigt. Jens is a legend. There cannot be any doubt about it. Andy would have been a legend too, if his knee would have let him continue his career. Contador (and another dopers) do not deserve any fame.

jens voigt was a damn beast. andy was too but as far as the pure aggresion that would tear up the field- voigt would always kill it rather it be in the cross winds or the climbs
this guy's are the best athlete's in the 🌎.
@Alex Paulsen so you clicked on a video because the title mentioned someone killing themselves and you were disappointed when it was not a literal suicide? Then you call the video's owner a disgusting creature... I think you might be a little backwards there buddy.
Definition of TEAMWORK right there
Jens Voight's trainers are having a road installed up the north face of everest to put Jens to the test.
Jens is the landlord of the pain cave.
Which year and which stage was it? This scene was so spectacular.
shows what a little bit of courage and lot of juice can do
Can someone explain what is happening? thank you
"This man doesn't know the word give up." Phil, give up isn't one word, it's two words. LOL
what time is that?
Vote Jens in 2012, party leader of the Kicking Ass and Taking Names Coalition.
Jens us the man. Enormous!
Jens Voigt doesn’t have a shadow because he dropped it repeatedly until it retired, climbing into the CSC team car and claiming a stomach ailment
Chuck Norris won the Tour de France on foot.
+Chad Lilly It's just his warm up for the Tour de Earth which he holds the record for: 0:00:00 seconds.
This is inspiration
Epic stuff from Jens
yeah, thats what happens..
but to tell the story like 10 min b4 this time on the stage, Jens V. was in a breakaway! using his strenght on that, and THEN he uses last of his "life" helping his captain! its gr8!
I FEEL the magic everytime I ride and BTW, There's neither luck nor magic behind doping. Go check your head, too, & wear a Helmet!
major league gurning.... wow.... what an effort...
Great thing ! Jens go on ! One more time !
And Jaksche. He told a lot of stuff about what went down in CSC.

Pure Legend -3
Jens, high class act.
Jens is the greatest Cyclis on Earth.
Jens " fuckin' soldier" Voigt
his "pacing him" up the hill. this is a normal duty, actually, its sole purpose for a domistique up climbs, to help the team leader save energy by pacing him up the hill.
Not his teammembers. Only Tyler Hamilton, who suspected it but had no evidence nor proof.
Jens is a badass.
Anyone got this in HD?
The greatest super domestiqe of all time
What year and stage is this?
Miss this commentary team.
Or in the case of Armstrong, if you are the big name, a name that brings in fans and money, you will be protected by just about any means. That plus paying off the UCI to hide numerous failed drug tests seems to do the trick as well.
he did not die in this video
fallen fuckin warrior. respect.
What does riding in front of him up a mountain do to help shleck though
At the speeds they ride up a lot of climbs, there is still a drafting benefit
but here they cant be riding much over 20kph
Depends - sometimes they can ride in upwards of 20 mph on some parts, depending on the gradient. There's also a psychological benefit as well even if there's not much of a physical benefit.
Yes i suppose grinding on the front up a whole climb could take its toll on a leader, rather than sitting on a teammates wheel so they can relax and stay fresh

11 ppl thought this was a snuff film
A proper domestique.
Just ignore these guys, they just don't have the luck of understanding and see the magic behind the cyclism
Not sure how he did this honestly
need some more EPO
great job for team.
the new clean bottle!!!!
I hate when your legs just give up but you want to ride more! :\
Hello 7yr old comment, he's one of the true champs !
Da hat das Doping nicht gereicht !
2007, if you would disqualify all the people who have drugs cheated the YJ would go to the rider in 23rd place...!
He is a Tank
I was expecting a much, much more morbid video based on the title...
are you a cycling fan? jens voigt is awesome.
Jens Dope
when was this?
TDF 2009 OR TDF 2010?
TDF just isn't the same without Jens.
armstrong far behind without doping
Rhzali nour eddine Yep and contador was convicted of doping in this one...
Rhzali nour eddine they all where doping and armstrong was old in this race. wanna talk shit atleast put it in perspective.
Rhzali nour eddine Armstrong far behind after having won 7 times.
Yes, with doping
Rhzali nour eddine Yes, like that changes anything.
Neil.... not Lance.
Jens Voigt, the only man feared by CHuck Norris
jens is a fuckin' god!
@ManVersusBike Give me one example of when he was caught doping.
Big Jens!!
can someone explain what happened in this video? i didnt get it.
He was the superdomestique of Andy Schleck and had to make him gain time on the following group of riders
lol lance just passes them.....flipped contador off.....andy is like what the fuck.....and im like...."theres armstrong" ;P
We know that...we just watched it.
and as whe know now, jens made him the tdf2010 champion......
The what bottle?
You name them, they have cheated.
