I have used OneNote for years (Apple user here 😮) but have been investigating MS Loop and Notion to bring everything together. I remembered this video and have now fallen back in love with OneNote for both its simplicity & complexity. Why was I trying to make a simple thing so complicated..?!! Thank you & now subscribed x
This video was exactly what I needed. I was not completely sure about using my laptop to take notes because I was not sure how I would even begin. I am so used to using paper notebooks for all of my college classes and OneNote just seems so inviting. Easy to use for the casual user yet it has so many more useful features if you know what you're aiming for.
You are so funny, cute, and helpful. Thank you so much, Hira. I am starting my PhD in Feb. I will watch all of the videos you have. Thank you for being awesome.
Thanks a ton for such an amazing video! I am also a Biology researcher like you doing both wet lab and dry lab. I am just beginning with my PhD journey and your tips are really helpful. Thank you so so much!
I have never seen someone so passionate about something like you are on OneNote and I am absolutely delighted to find your video and channel. keep up the good work.
I am just starting a graduate program and I believe that your videos are going to save me a ton of time. Thank you so much - you are contributing to the betterment of the world.
It seems to me that AI has literally exploded in academic research. I would be interested in sorting the useful tools from the lesser tools. Also, I would be interested in the ethical discussions about using AI tools in academia. Thanks again. @@oxford_phd
I am a massive fan of OneNote and using it for literally everything. Taking notes to mail professors and saving videos to watch later and what not. I didn't know about this printing feature. Thanks a ton🥰
This is a wonderful film. Thank you so much, I have now activated my OneNote on my Mac and MacBook Air, synchronised and ready to go. Delighted with it, all that paper was getting me down. Beautiful scarf too. Best wishes, Miffy xxx
You literally saved me so many hours of research in how to use Onenote. And here I thought Goodnotes was the king of notetaking. Grad school here I come.
Aslkm. Super useful. Wonderful to see a fellow Muslimah scholar being awesome with academic research and technology. Keep up the good work, inshaAllah.
I think alot of youtubers must be sponsored by other platforms. One note is the epitome of K.I.S.S. Even if you use another app for notes you can paste them there. The horizontal infinite pages is unbeatable for annotating slides and PDFs and I'm not sure any other applications really allow for this?
Can you please make a video on taking notes while you’re class. Like how do you take class notes. I would really appreciate if you do som i found your videos really life saving.❤
OneNote is such an underrated tool. It's one of the best if not the best note taking app. Been using it since 2014 when it came bundled with my Windows Phone. So, couldn't think of using anything else since then.
I tried so many note taking apps, and I really like your recommendation, I am using mac but microsoft really do a great job on macos and ios. HAHA, Apple never want to do good thing on windows. OneNote maybe not beautiful as it looks, but for the function and information, it works the best.
Hiraaaaaaaaa, I like your energyyyyyyyyyy. ...and yes I have Onenote, and I'm using it to research my dissertation (applied mathematics). You got yourself a new subscriber >_
Miss Hira, thank you for your wonderful advice, OneNote will now be my app of choice for my research. I will use it for my masters research and God willing PhD. I must ask though why you prefer a touchpad over an IPad, and why an Ipad would not be ideal or in terms of functionality, they are all the same, its just a personal prefrence?
OneNote experience is generally nicer on Windows tablets than ipad :) I also like that the tablet is a mini computer with all the desktop apps you want which isn't the case with ipad. So you get more bang for your buck if you buy a Windows tablet
Salam sister. This was a great video. I am using one note for my masters and love it too. I have been thinking of making a video too. Inshallah one day.
I would love to see a video about paper lab notebooks for Freshman chemistry. Do you have any of your lab notebooks you could share? Our college is not allowing for digital lab notebooks presently, but that might change one day. So, we have to work hard to motivate students to do pen and paper. (Many have a hard time with penmanship too!)
I'm sorry I've never had a paper lab notebook when doing my own research projects! When I did they were horribly un-updated and hard to navigate through so I'm not sure I have any advice on that. I think you should push hard the other way around though - pushing college to allow digital instead! I've not heard this before, it is so strange!
subscribe just because of your apple comment, lol. Please let me know which Microsoft product you use. I love it. Thanks so much for a wonderful informative video.
Haha! Welcome onboard! :) I use the Surface Go laptop and all my devices are in Windows :) I still use Word to write my theses and papers, PowerPoint for my presentations and graphics, Excel for the references file I mentioned in a different video, OneDrive for all my storage and cloud backups of my theses, and of course my favourite thing ever is OneNote!! :D
Hi Hira, Thank you so much for your video, this is exactly what I was looking for. I have downloaded one note now, however I'm struggling to get the layout to look like your one. Can you please advise how you removed all the one note ribbons etc, so it shows just the notebook page that I'm working on and a little icon of the Notebook in the top right corner. When you click the notebooks on the top right corner your notebooks appear like timestamp 1:39. On my display all the notebooks are showing on the right and all the ribbons are at the top
Thanks for this video. How do you use two sides of the screen, one side for the copied data and the other for your own personal writing? Does OneNote allow you to separate the page in two, like two columns? I tried to figure it out but everything was moving so fast I couldn't tell how you did that. Thank you. Roger
How do you copy the text out from the pdf's that you have inserted as a print out? Like just copying the tile and sub headings for a keyword list should be possible? But you can't select the text as the hole page is a picture.. It really bugs me how you can't save a pdf to a common place then insert it in to one note, and do the rest there. If it have to annotate it (one note) don't annotate the pdf but just writes over the image inside onenote, so if i open the pdf in other program or share it the annotations are not there. If i annotate the pdf in a pdf program, after i have inserted it as a print out, onenote can't update the print out if changes are made in the original file. So you have to delete the hole pdf insert in onenote and re insert it... That means there are multiple version of the same pdf that your have to keep track on and that is an insane friction.
Ah I see your frustration! The reason it hasn't been an issue for me is because I do everything on OneNote so I don't need to actually annotate the pdf file itself or use different programmes for pdf annotation. A few thoughts on how you get around some of the issues: 1. To copy the title and sub-headings you can right-click and "copy text from picture" as OneNote has a built-in image to text feature 2. To share your annotations with others, you can go to File > Export and export the page as a pdf document to send to others. 3. You're also able to insert files as attachments on a OneNote page. Insert > File attachment > Insert as attachment. However, using this you won't be able to annotate in OneNote directly as it's just attaching the file, nothing more, but it will save and automatically update any changes you make on the pdf when you open it from OneNote. I don't think there's a perfect work-around for your needs if you want to use other programmes to annotate. But I hope some of this is useful.
Hey first create Video, why did u stop making them ? Please, I need this as soon as possible because I'm adapting your workflow for my bachelor thesis. 1. I'm getting confused about some aspects of your workflow. Regarding the PDF in OneNote: First, you mention printing it out to check. Then, you suggest that you copy and paste the passages you need. However, I'm unclear on where you're copying these passages from. Obviously, we can't copy from OneNote because the PDF is an image. Do you take a screenshot, or do you go back to the original website to copy the text? So back and Forth? 2. When you read an article and write it down in Excel, I get it. But do you have a separate folder or Excel table for each subject or project? For instance, for a Master's thesis or a project on wind energy? 3. Third, let's say we've gathered 10 references or articles; therefore, there are 10 pages that may constitute one paragraph or 1 chapter. We note it down in Excel. Got it. In OneNote, we create a new page, insert the title and link, and then print it out. And let's say we rewrite using a slow method, with the title at the end. Okay. Then you create one more page, let's call it "Writing Chapter 1." How you showed us: Do you copy pasty from the 10 article to the one side like Manuelly Referenace 1 Copy - to Writing Chapter 1 paste ? And then left side and then start to write paragraphs or content on the right side? Is this your workflow? Sometimes you have Full article some times Parts. Thank you very much
How do you add pdf or note ?? I can even copy note from pdf to one note . I just add the whole pdf into onenote . Mine don't look like your page! Are you using any pdf copying apps
You can drag your pdf onto OneNote and drop onto a page and click "insert as printout". Or you can open the pdf with any reader, click print, and click on Microsoft OneNote when choosing printers. Hope that works!
Hahaha! I have confessions to make on this channel, I was given a mac work laptop so I like it. AND I use notion too now :') If the print to one note doesn't work maybe go into one note, create a new page, and see if you can attach file > choose file > attach as printout?

OMG I just discovered that you can link Excel sheets to OneNote, too. I can link my datasheets, graphs, tables- all of it. This is amazing.
You are so funny, cute, and helpful. Thank you so much, Hira. I am starting my PhD in Feb. I will watch all of the videos you have. Thank you for being awesome.
I am a postdoc
and now realise why I did not this hack of using one note with my literature organization. Thanks dear
Thanks a ton for such an amazing video! I am also a Biology researcher like you doing both wet lab and dry lab. I am just beginning with my PhD journey and your tips are really helpful. Thank you so so much!
I've been using OneNote from time to time for years now, and I didn't know 70% of the things you mentioned in your video.
Thank you so much !!
I have never seen someone so passionate about something like you are on OneNote and I am absolutely delighted to find your video and channel. keep up the good work.
I gave up on onenote long time ago but this is so informative and makes me want to get it again.

You literally saved me so many hours of research in how to use Onenote. And here I thought Goodnotes was the king of notetaking. Grad school here I come.
Would love to see a video where you explain how you organize these notes into those sections and folders. I often get very confused about that.
Awesome video! Really helpful and also, you are so smart and funny. Well done you and best of luck in all you do!! 😀
OMG..I didn't know that about one note..god it's amazing ♥️♥️😍😍
Thank you so much for your videos. I will start my PhD soon and your videos help me a lot to create my setup.

I LOVE that I stumbled upon this channel! Sooo helpful in my MSW program!!! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this post. This is just what I needed to see about a top-grade notetaking app I already own!!
Many thanks. I will now double down on my use of OneNote!

So I guess I will use OneNote for my PhD reading😅 thank you, the video was very informative
Thank you so so much. Just the right app I am looking for to stay organized with my work.

Very useful, thanks hira, I was using onenote for everything, but now I swicthed to Notion and Obsidian

Thank you so much for sharing your research organization workflow.
Very useful information for PhD students like us. Thank you🤗.
Amazing Video, Hira!. The problem with OneNote is that it is not as polished for Mac and iPhone as compared with Windows and Android.
Thanks alot for sharing this.. you just saved me girl. keep going..

Hi, so glad you found this useful! To get that layout, click the full screen arrows on the top right of the one note screen. That should do the trick!

Hi, you can click anywhere and it will let you type wherever you want on the page. That's the beauty of Onenote
❤ excellent
Sorry sister I do a research for my video script but I don't know how to organize them, is there any solution?
Oh my god I love you😁
How does the CTRL E work? I have a mac and I am doing like Apple +E - the search feature is not working. Please help
You can use the search icon on OneNote when you're on a Mac and select it to search all notebooks :)
Do you record your data in OneNote too? If so how?
No I just use excel files for that :) If it's figures then I also paste it into one note like I show here, but also save a png as backup in my files
youre amazing
