Storm clocks result in a high elf victory. The imperial government is buying time and resources for the next war with the high elf empire.
Storm clocks would get anhillated by the high elvs as a country owner, and the imperial empire would erase them from existence anyways as they'd send so many troops leaving the storm clocks with thier d in thier hands making the whole rebellion pointless and only powering the enemy that being the elfs.

@hatshepsut295 Yeah, the only thing the civil war helps is the dirty elves.

Bethesda just happen to get into the same boat as many oldschool beloved developers like Bioware, Bungie, Blizzard, DICE just to name a few.
First banger after banger game releases, critical acclaim and immense creativity.
But after few years the company gets into hands of greedy corporate that wants to have bigger game with even bigger earnings.
The company keeps getting bigger and bigger, the original creative people that created all of these banger games leave, new, younger, unexperienced people get hired and we get Mass Effect Andromeda, Destiny 2 milking the living hell out of fans, Warcraft 3: Reforged/Diablo 4, Battlefield 2042 and finally Starfield.
It is the circle of game studios, it is inevitable fate.

The soul of the studio has withered away, and they're more interested in selling products than experiences. As another viewer pointed out, this is a cycle that's affected numerous AAA studios that rose to prominence due to the quality of their games and the passion put into them, only for the people who made the studio great to either be forced out or leave of their own accord, to be replaced with bean-counters and neophytes with varying levels of experience and skill, but no cohesive vision. Despite loving some of their games, I'm not particularly broken up about it. It's unfortunate that Elder Scrolls 6 will likely be mediocre at best, but once you come to terms with what AAA gaming has become, you can put it do bed and go enjoy some indie titles or something. Great video, as always.

Every Bethesda game post-Morrowind has had the same writing shortfalls:
Depthless, flat dialogue that makes characters seem like wooden caricatures of people instead of well-rounded, complex individuals with flaws, quirks, and goals (for reference, compare to Baldur's Gate 3, Fallout New Vegas, The Witcher 3, and Cyberpunk).
Shallow plots without any engaging themes or artfully compelling narratives. They come across like amateur improvisations of stories rather than labors of passion forged by an insightful, well-read writer who understands human tragedy and has something interesting to say about the human condition.
A general sense of cartoonish unseriousness, as if the only narrative goal were to entertain children.
A lack (especially in the Fallout games) of logical cohesion in world-building, i.e., nothing makes sense if you think about it. For example, Fallout 3 and 4's worlds don't seem to have coherent socioeconomic systems that explain why people live the way they do, or how they feed and take care of themselves. It seems like these points are glossed over by the team in favor of a freewheeling "The point is to have fun, you guys!" philosophy that disdains the application of logic when telling stories.
However, prior to Starfield, people still generally loved Bethesda games for their well-designed, immersive overworlds that were fun to explore and dungeon dive in. But Starfield threw out that feature in favor of randomly generated gruel peppered with copy-and-paste prefabbed dungeons that run on constant repeat, thereby leaving us with a product that highlights all of Bethesda's flaws without including any of their strengths (barring perhaps art design), which caused us to finally begin fixating on the crap writing and really taking it to task.

Starfield made question my previous enjoyed of Bethesda games. I went back to oblivion and happily i still enjoy it, despite its flaws.
How much generous good faith did Bethesda have? I didn't expect them to be amazing, nor did i compare them to other games. I compared them to previous bethesda instalments, not expecting innovation, just inproved interation.
Even with that generous leeway, bethesda has failed.
I'm never insulted by a game, even ones that try to be "offensive" or "edgy". Startfield offended me. The blatant expectation i waste time, money and memory space on this, and that modders do the work. F*ck this game, f*ck bethesda and f*ck Todd Howard.

It's called "enshitification." The problem with megacorporate end-stage hypercapitalism is that the profit motive isn't just a motive, -- it's a mandate. That means "number go up, brrr." It is simply not possible for a shareholder driven corporation like Microsoft to manage creatives in a way that leads to mo/betta "creativity," or innovation. There isn't any money in that. If you doubt, look at the size (and financial success) of Bethesda's recent "failures." No, it is far easier, and far better to simply focus on a bitchen' marketing campaign for TES 6, push gamepass subs, and do it with less. Eventually, long after the wheels come off completely, the property can be salvaged, rebranded, re-imagined, and re-released to a wave of nostalgia and hope. Cha-ching. TES 6 will be the biggest, blandest, most generic, checkbox-ticking trip into the Elder Scrolls yet, it will take forever to develop, cost more money than God to make, and be crippled beyond belief by the same bugs that been in every BGS game since Oblivion. Downvote me now, but you will be cheering when Todd takes the stage in 2034 to announce its surprise release, and its ultra-premium collector's edition for only $1500.

For me, I never played Morrowind or Oblivion at any point around their release. Instead my first games were Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy 10, Ratchet and Clank, and then after I got into PC gaming my first Elder Scrolls was Skyrim, then I read about Morrowind and Oblivion and I went and tried to play those since some folk on forums were ranting about how they were amazing. BTW I played Fallout 3 around the time of release on my PC as well, that was my first Fallout game.
Here is what I come away with.
I found Skyrim to be fun to play, yet technically speaking there was no real good story or character development or anything like that, the fun of it was merely just being somewhat open world and running around exploring areas and levelling up, but eventually you kind of get sick of that, but I must have clocked in at least 200 hours into it. Overall it's a success though.
Then when I tried to play Oblivion, I am going to be honest I played it for maybe 2 hours and then just totally gave up on playing it and uninstalled it. I found Oblivion to be horrible, and there was no incentive to level up as the enemies would level up with you, and the bloom in the game was also silly looking to me, I couldn't really find anything fun about it, seems to have no story, no character development, and unlike Skyrim it didn't even have fun gameplay or levelling up.
Then when I tried to play Morrowind I actually enjoyed it. Morrowind clearly must have been a damn good game when originally released, since even when I played it first like in 2014 or something I enjoyed it. I look past old graphics so it doesn't bother me, and I just focused on the gameplay mechanics and reading the story and such and I found it actually to be a good game.
What about Fallout 3? I enjoyed Fallout 3, because it was my first experience in a Fallout game. I then played a bit of Fallout New Vegas and thought it was okay, but I didn't really see what people were raving about so much, I think it was just some brand loyal people to Obsidian who loved New Vegas like it was a religion, so mostly I think they were thinking with feelings possibly, I couldn't really see how Fallout 3 was trash and how New Vegas was the second coming of god or anything, both seemed to be pretty comparable games to me. What I liked about Fallout 3 was the concept of coming out of the vault for the first time into a wasteland, that was such a cool concept.
I never played Fallout 1 or 2, but I watched a lot of videos about them on youtube and playthroughs and I think that Fallout 1 possibly has the peak story of any Fallout game.
As far as my era in PC gaming, I got into it heavily from 2009-2015 and then generally left it a bit, I am not a heavy gamer today. But during the era that I did do PC gaming, the top 10 games I enjoyed the most out of probably a total of 90 games that I played across those years were the following, Mass Effect series, Borderlands series, Two World 2, Dragon Age, Starcraft 2, Skyrim, Morrowind, Stalker, Half Life 2, Fallout 3.
And games I played on PC during that era that I thought were heavily overrated and sucked are the following, Tomb Raider games, Assassins Creed games, Bioshock, Crysis, Duke Nukem Forever, Oblivion, Portal, Battlefield, COD, Metro 2033, The Witcher, Halo, Dead Space etc.
The reason I kind of left PC gaming and gaming in general is because after a while I realised that most games I was playing were vapid and like something else I played (but just reskinned). Most of these typical action games are just a total waste of time and I forgot about them after playing them (which shows how vapid they were). That out of probably 90 games I played in that era, I only properly can remember any interesting story or gameplay elements in only 15 of them.
It's not that I don't play any games at all anymore, but I am not hyped for new releases or religiously playing new releases or in that circle jerk of corporate AAA game nonsense. The last game that I played in fact was a Japanese visual novel type game with a really memorable and nice story, and enjoyable gameplay and levelling mechanics like a strategy game combined with a good anime story almost.
I know there are new games like Starfield, Cyberpunk, Diablo 4, Stay Human, Horizon games etc, yet I honestly have zero motivation to play them, since I feel like with those games I have been there and done that already many times over, they almost never have anything new (it's just a reskinning and redecoration of a story I have already played through many times).
Yeah, I am not even waiting for Elder Scrolls 6, and I expect it to suck as well, considering Starfield. But I don't even care either, it will be funny to just see fan's reactions though if it does indeed suck.

I always thought Bethesda was a joke, but I kept giving them chances. I had Terminator, and got to the famous game ending bug where you couldn't enter the final building. I gave them another chance with X-Car, which was an undriveable MESS, the car drove like it was on Ice, it was unplayable. Then my sister loaned me Daggerfall, I installed it, wandered around, found a Dungeon, and fell through the world while climbing down a ladder into the Dungeon, so I quit, and uninstalled it. I gave them another chance with Morrowind, and another chance with Oblivion and the stupid POTATO HEAD CHaracter Maker, and that's when they introduced the first PAID DLC ever, HORSE ARMOR. Then they decided to Release and re-release and re-re-release Skyrim, and monetize the hell out of it, and they just released some "Creation CLub" update just yesterday that once again BROKE ALL OF THE FREE MODS AGAIN. SO, the HELL WITH BETHESDA. I'm not going to buy any more of their crap.

@GeneralRubicon Fr, but at this point, I honestly don't care as I've lost all interest in the game.
The funny thing is I was so excited once I found out about this shipyard that sold parts I've never seen before. I was going to make an awesome ship build, then out of nowhere crashes.
Bethesda gave me the old bs, and then they told me to try deleting saves, so I deleted all my old saves and made new ones from the point i was at leaving me no where to fall back on before crashing.
The only thing I can think of is my gigantic bounty for every faction and lots of items on my person and infinte box.

That's how it works on internet communities, people rarely are sceptical or research things themselves, they just repeat what some other folk on a forum are also repeating, it becomes a factoid essentially. I take anything some random nobodies say on a forum or a youtube video with literally a grain of salt, since the internet is about 90% full of people just saying stuff and never having researched any of it themselves, but merely repeating stuff they heard someone else say.

In a weird way history repeats itself. The games we get loose on quality and substance, only there for a quick buck and much more with the whole Cash-shop epidemic. wasn't there a similiar event back in the 80s or so where something like that also happened? I could be wrong with the timeline of course, but what i know is that during the gaming crash a lot of the games where more or less garbage. Only there for money and nothing more. Fun was not on the priority. Mayn say the ET-Game was the last drop on the hot stone that made it crack. I think there was much more. End result was the Industry crashed, and for a long time it was not even clear if it would recover at all. Have the feeling we move to such an event. A lot of the main players do some rather stupit shit. And i would say the idea of asking for 100 (insert currency here) for something that is not even finished and would need much more in additional dlc could be the drop this time.

I'm at 12:37. You are young and it shows.
Sorry, Oblivion was a disappointment for people, who started TES at Daggerfall and Morrowind: very generic fantasy world, proc gen turned into theme park, some very repetitive quests and Todd's lies: Radiant AI, "nothing is scripted", dynamic shadows and parallax mapping turned off on release, atrocious 1024 distant LOD textures, stupid enemy leveling system.
Fallout 3 was a disappointment for people, who played Fallout 1 and 2: writing was significantly worse, clunky 3d person controls, bugs everywhere and the main sin: this was not a fallout, but oblivion with guns: a theme park of disassociated "points of interest" instead of coherent deep world with design for people who would not give it a second thought.
And i don't really believe Todd had much to say in Daggerfall. He was a "crisis manager" for Morrowind, which is when he turned simulation and proc gen into a cell-separated theme park.

I was trying to be as general as possible. Also alot of this is going off of my own experience and what I could research as early reviews. Sadly not as many consumers reviewed games back then. It was pretty hard to find reviews from consumers at the time of release. But yeah I definitely understand what you're saying.

@@GeneralRubicon interesting, you are right, that research of those times can be actually hard: not a lot of resources. You were never wrong in your assessments in this video. It just felt like it was a bit "incomplete" if you know what i mean. Like someone truncated the frustration i had for oblivion and fallout. It's interesting how Skyrim actually can't be called "bad". It actually was magnum opus of Todd Howard's approach and actually proved it's not completely hopeless if done with care. It wasn't genius in any way, but it was good enough to not be disappointed. And it was his first and last "hooray", i would say.

What Gary Gygax said about 2e AD&D. He did the same thing with rules compatible releases of Sixguns & Sorcery. When WotC bought, and changed D&D from a miniatures wargame into a story telling narrative.
The same problem that Gary knew of many years ago. That was the level in which characters in a campaign stop. The 1e AD&D for demi-humans for a number of classes was between 4 and 7. Many 5e campaigns stop when characters reach level 5. 1e AD&D was structured around 10 levels, and more levels could be taken to lengthen character progression. However, WotC immediately changed it to 20 levels with 3e. The core issue being unresolved still manages to plague the game.
Bethesda needs to make a new engine from scratch. They have the money for it. People have been saying it for years. However, this new engine cannot be a reincarnation of the Creation Engine. Just like a new edition of D&D cannot solve certain problems that exist within its own system.

    • @KneppaH
      @KneppaH 4 дня назад

I think they spend way to much time on fixing fallout 76. They said that it was their "B team" who made this game but I think the main studio was heavily involved too. And after the disastrous release of that game in 2018 they had no choice to spend alot of time of it to fix the mess they made. Then there was Covid19. My guess is that the active development time was less than 2 or 3 years. And it showed when Starfield finally released. It's a half finished game. The "polishing delay" was a lie. The game was not even close to being fininshed at that point.

Skyrim actually was their most successful, selling in total now 60 million copies. How many copies has fallout 4 sold? 25 million copies.
Skyrim was truly the most hyped of any of their releases and the most marketed, which explains why it sold so many copies and is still being heavily modded and played till this day.
Morrowind only sold 4 million copies and Oblivion only sold 9.5 million copies. The true peak of Bethesda in popularity and sales was Skyrim, it isn't debatable, and after Skyrim they have been continuously declining as a company.
Their newest horrible release Starfield has only sold 2.5 million copies and sales have dropped to almost nothing now as many people came out exposing the game as horrible, so a lot of people aren't buying it, and its service life clearly will be short.
And this release by Bethesda will certainly have some impact on the Elder Scrolls 6, because some people will no longer have faith in Bethesda and assume that ES6 will be as bad as Starfield and will no longer fall for the hype that they fell for with Starfield.
Why does a company die off like this? It isn't rocket science, most of the artists, story writers, programmers etc don't even work at the company anymore, it is instead a whole new group of people making these games than made the previous releases that many appreciated.
Yes, ES6 likely will be made by a lot of the same people that made Starfield. Yes a lot of the broken characters, and vapid procedural generation likely will be part of ES6 sadly. Bethesda had a good run while it lasted I guess, they enjoyed constantly growth all up till their peak performing game Skyrim, then they have died off after that essentially.

A smaller map about the size of Mortal Shell. Bethesda makes a game about the same size utilizing a new engine. They release, and sell it for a profit. Then, increase spending on R&D working out the kinks on a smaller game. What is learned, and using what works to expand the size on the next game. A large map, a whole lot of complex systems, and piling all it onto an unstable engine. This shall keep leading to the same problems.

You mention the more intuitive leveling system of Skyrim implying Oblivion was worse.
You mention the radiant ai. Which btw people are ravenous for an Oblivion remaster and the thought of that radiant ai this day and age has me cracking up.
You could go on for days about issues with Oblivion however all the issues were things the child versions of ourselves were easy to overlook.
Bethesdas bangers had no expectations attached. How are they supposed to deliver on the expectations of millions of peoples childhood nostalgia? Not gonna happen, at least not for us, our childhood toys just aren’t as much fun anymore. We’re too critical and too cynical.
