A man with a microphone on an empty stage, no dancers, no backing band, no explosions or other "effects", just this man and his mesmerizing voice! Artists of today: Watch this and maybe you learn a thing or two...
I am 81 and have heard several artist before Bobby’s version and several after. No one comes close to this, Bobby owns it. This version came out as I was headed for Viet Nam. You can feel the loneliness in the words and the way we felt as we were away from our families for one long year. Bill and Bobby always did one solo on each of their albums and while on tour. They both wanted to do “Unchained”, so they flipped a coin. The music was written as the theme for the little-known prison film “Unchained” (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. The movie “Unchained” is about a man in prison and longing for his wife and children. Hoping his wife will still be there when he gets out. So you can now understand the meaning of the song. The movie was not very good, or so my friends told me. But we were all teenagers so what did we know. Several artists sang it and it made the billboard top 100. But no one can come close to Bobby Hatfield’s version. Bobby’s version hit the top ten chart. And did it again when it was used in the movie “Ghost” It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by Bobby. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.
This has to be one of the most difficult songs to sing. From the bridge just over half way through to the last six or seven seconds it's enough to shred anyone's vocal chords. Above and beyond that the lyrics are just simply beautiful.
Me also in 1965 I just began secondary school and we lived on 2 acres near Geelong I always think of this when I sing this song at the karaoke.....God Bless!!!!!!!
@@dingse3_ Lol - watch the entire show - all live. His mother was in the audience. It’s telling that this generation can’t believe it’s possible to sing live!
I was born in 1950 and when I heard this story in song I knew it was going to be around for a long time. To be listening to it today seems like a dream, he's a great vocalist and I've never heard a better cover than his version. When I was in primary school I could hit high notes, he's in his late twenties and he has been able to sing this song, with what seems to be, effortlessly. I don't care if it was on the UK charts for how long, it's one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. He just makes it so much more, it was originally from a film about a prison. You can see where the song is trying to take you, just brilliant.
Have you heard his 1990 remake? It’s not as perfect, his voice is smokey but he was 50 years old and he still ‘had it’. 😁 ruclips.net/video/I3FNSOuF2no/видео.html
50 years later when he hits that 'I need your love'.. I still get a chill.. What is the psychology of that? The octave interval is something primal I guess.. It's effective in 'Over the Rainbow' but more dramatic here.. Thank you Rightous Brothers and Phil Spector..

I'm lost for words after watching this video. A very well put together song. This must be one of the hardest song to sing in the world. The way he effortlessly sings in falsetto is something out of this world.
Another timeless immortal classic. Gee, I wonder how many rap songs will be remembered 55 years from now. Would any songs from today's recording artists be remembered 55 years from now?
Hatfield's version of Unchained Melody is great but IMHO it's not the best. It's very close, but not as good as the Roy Orbison version. Orbison had a better and more melodious voice. He also sang with more emotion giving his songs a more haunting quality. If there is a rock and roll heaven, you can bet Roy and Bobby are up there entertaining the troops
Yeah. This comes from a time when "Getting It Right On The Night" was THE professional standard. If standards have dropped, then it's at least partly our own fault for accepting the excuses...

One of the best love songs ever
2020 listening
I'm lost for words after watching this video. A very well put together song. This must be one of the hardest song to sing in the world. The way he effortlessly sings in falsetto is something out of this world.
Another timeless immortal classic. Gee, I wonder how many rap songs will be remembered 55 years from now. Would any songs from today's recording artists be remembered 55 years from now?
I think this one will be.....it is timeless.
And I will be 110 years old.
Ditto ‼️ Steve 😹👍🙏
Timeless = legend
No rap song will be remembered 5 years from now -- let alone 55 years from now...
Love me some good old classic s
Oh Bobby no one can sing " Unchained Melody " the way you do! Best version ever!!! You were a genius with that raw talent RIP
Martha marlow
Hatfield's version of Unchained Melody is great but IMHO it's not the best. It's very close, but not as good as the Roy Orbison version. Orbison had a better and more melodious voice. He also sang with more emotion giving his songs a more haunting quality. If there is a rock and roll heaven, you can bet Roy and Bobby are up there entertaining the troops
have you met Mike Yung???
FooBar Maximus
Then I guess you’ve made millions off your voice the way he did. Fuck! You really are ignorant.
Gotta be one of the most powerful performances of all time

Fabulous singer indeed
Yeah. This comes from a time when "Getting It Right On The Night" was THE professional standard. If standards have dropped, then it's at least partly our own fault for accepting the excuses...
Fake! ;)
This is BEAUTIFUL ♥️
Love this song to bits &pieces
74 million views as of today. I think I have clocked in 1 million of them. My favorite song by who sang it best. RIP Bobby Hatfield. Thanks for the memories of a more innocent and kinder time.❤❤❤.
