To me, average is basically doing slightly above my ability but slightly below my potential. Attaining my average performance has nothing to do with what another person has scored. We all have different degrees of potentiality.

Most times the ego makes me feel I am better than someone else, & in most part, with such thinking, I find I that am actually losing it slowly. Nowadays, I make sure I do my best coz I set the standard for myself.
