This guy is bashing the # 1 most fun vehicle I have ever owned in my 70 years of driving. I have gone thru some major upgrades to make it my own. My wife and i have been on a bunch of long distance rides, like 10 days at a time, we have traveled thru Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington Colorado, Nevada, South Dakota and New Mexico.
Id argue that there are many more vehicles that can offer the same fun, without the downsides of riding in a handicapped plastic tub. Miata, S2000, Solstice, Ariel Atom, Morgan, Caterham, hell, a Vette cart... basically anything with four wheels that isnt made out of recycled water bottles. The only real novelty of the Slingshot is that single rear wheel, which is useless for handling, and terrible looking.
Im glad you have fun in yours, but theyre terrible little things, and there are much better "cars" that accomplish the same goals but better.
So basically the experience of anyone who's ridden a bike in heavy rain.

I got caught in the rain one time biking home from McDonalds, fucking paper bag of food got so soggy it started to rip apart, had to stop at the gas station and get a plastic bag just to make it home with all my food.
The Polaris Slingshot is not a car .. it gets registered as a motorcycle. As a car it would never pass the crash tests.

Legal grey area. Many states classify a three-wheeled vehicle (specifically one that's not a motorcycle with a sidecar) as something "other than car" and that doesn't require the training of a motorcycle. I think these things are bath tubs for cowards who can't ride, but that's beside the point.
In most states the slingshot is classified as an autocycle now. No need for motorcycle license.
I usually see old bikers who don't, maybe can't, ride anymore in them. Always wearing their group's jacket and their leather hag of a wife in the passenger seat smokin a cig.

Totally disagree. I have owned my Slingshot for two years and have gone on several trips exceeding 600 miles and loved every minute of them. Wouldn't trade it for nothing.

There is a reason they have that am small 4 banger. Any more power and you cannot get traction. Seeing as you can easily break the tire loose with the stock drive train.

My brother owns a slingshot that thing isn't right if it's not maintaining speed I've been in it up to 120 easy .
I don't know what he's on about. I rented a Slingshot off Turo in LA and was immediately impressed by how quick it was. I was doing 100+mph on some of the canyon roads in it. Even around corners. Drives like an economy car my ass. Got it up to 140 on the highway chasing down my buddy on a bike.
The slingshot does easily over 120mph. 5th gear is overdrive and only lets you hit 90 tops. You have to stay in 4th gear if you want to exceed that.
Been there done that 120mph is easily hit in 4th gear. This clown is a joke.

Maybe it was limited, I know on my Lincoln I could set up a "My Key" which will limit the speed to 80mph amongst other things. On a car that can very quickly get to 120 without a hiccup.
I have no idea how to start with this video.
1) max speed of it is 130 and car and driver took theirs to 110 before stopping because that was their personal limit.
2) 11 year veteran motorcyclist. Ride motorcycle - you will get caught in the rain. So much of this video is botching about getting soaked due to his own lack of preparedness for inclement weather.
3) waterproof interiors will never look like a posh Bentley.
3) Manage your expectations to the vehicle type being reviewed. This vehicle is designed for exposure to the elements. If you can't handle that seems like more of an issue for you than the vehicle.
5) A major point in a review would be comparing a vehicle to similar vehicles. If you were in a Morgan or a Can-Am Spider would your experience have been any different? Better? Worse?
Slingshots are shit... I dont agree with a lot of car reviews but most are 200% accurate when it comes to these shit boxes
It wouldn't do more than 85 MPH? I've taken mine over 100 EASY, and it gets there pretty quick! BTW, the engine size is 2.4L Ecotec not 2.2L.
I was at a gas station and a older lady pulled up with one. There was a few people gathered by it and someone asked what’s it’s top speed....she said 220. I wanted to tell her just because the speedometer says that doesn’t mean it can go that fast but I thought I would come off kinda rude so I let her have her moment lol

There's a pack of about 10 of these that come to my neighborhood every weekend. They have neon everywhere and the loudest stereos on earth. They remind me of a certain South Park episode.
You can do 130 mph + in fourth gear, fifth is overdrive -- for cruising. You could have rented one with a top, if not, be prepared for rain in Florida (haha). Basically -- it's a recreation vehicle -- it's a toy. I keep rain gear in mine just in case. The base model starts at $19,000, the Grand Touring (comes with a top) is $30,000. I know -- you were not aware of these things.

I once tried to haul a cord of firewood in my caddy, that day i learned that a car is a tool and to pick the right one for the job at hand, This isnt the slingshots fault its the fault of the fool that tries to tour and back road blaster, its like doing the TransAmerica trail on a GSXR, it can be done but again wrong tool for the job at hand
I've been wanting a Slingshot. I'm a stubborn s.o.b. and Freddy didnt change my mind. I might actually Turo one first. I'm experienced on motorcycles, which may give me the upper hand with the wind issues.
But you have to wear a helmet so how is the wind even a thing?
If only those T'Rex things were as popular as the sling shots... The company really missed out on a huge opportunity after the hype died down. Could have made a cheeper version at that 35K price point instead of the 50-60K they charged and they would have sold like hot cakes.
And yes, you'll get wet when it rains. This is a specialty vehicle that does one thing: exposes you to the elements. If you don't like the elements, drive a car with a roof, or stay indoors that's air conditioned.

I just rode one 675 miles from Pawtucket Rhode Island to Richmond Virginia. Froze my ass off. But it was awesome.
The moral of the story... well, two of them... Always drive a vehicle that is designed to have a top, and learn how the heck to pack clothes for a trip.
"It looked really outlandish but sort of drove like an economy car" -My experience exactly. It's slower than a Camry, and doesn't exactly handle well. Like a kei car with no top, a blast to take to town on a sunny day, but that's it. It is kind of cool that you can touch the ground while buckled in and holding the wheel though.
Funny, I just entered a raffle for one of these at a mall... now I'm reconsidering even entering the raffle... worried for "what if I actually win it?" I live in Chicago mind you...

I was a Polaris salesman and needless to say once you get over the strangeness factor of it it’s an eh car. It’s great to learn how to drift in if you get a boosted one.
The worst part about the Slingshot is it's dirt slow and owners think they are cool... There is a turbo kit and 4 wheel conversion now, for $80k you can build a track monster. 😂

Because there is no weight in the back, not because it's fast lol. A 250cc bike would smoke it.
You buy the 4 wheel conversion to have something sort of cool like an Atom or KTM X-Bow.
I drove from Mn to Fl 2 years ago. I don’t know if something was wrong with the car or your driving but I can do over 100 I my 05 slingshot without issue. I have a windshield and sometimes I wear a helmet but it’s not a requirement to drive or interact with my passenger. As far as the rain, you are just as exposed as a motorcycle but the rear end can get lose depending on the tire treds.

I couldn't decide wether I wanted the bike, or the sportscar, so I got neither. Exactly the pos I knew it was. My buddy had one for 6 months, and tried to goad me into a ride. I declined saying that I've never seen anyone smiling while driving one. Including him. Look, the next time you see one.

Living in Southwest Florida, I can attest to how insane the rain can be down here. I believe Tavarish ran into what I call "a wall of water". Impossible to drive thru with a normal car nevermind in this Polaris.
My slingshot is stock and I can do 130-140, big stereo and wheels and im in at 23000.00. Florida must pay way more geez

Don't know what you were doing when you were driving the " Slingshot " ( probably " Granny Shifting " or either you''re not very good with a " Clutch " ) I've driven them and I've gotten up to 100 mph ( I got off of it because I didn't want to get arrested or get a ticket, and if you knew how frequently the weather could change or didn't even bother to check the " Forecast " for the probability for " Rain " then the experience you got was of your own fault ). For those who say " Slingshots " are " Shit or Not worth the money " well that's your opinion and your entitled to it, but there's " Thousands & maybe Millions " of " Slingshot Owners & Clubs " that would beg to differ, I'm sure there somethings you've owned or thought about owning that others thought the same about that as you do the " Slingshot " only difference is they let you & others find out for yourselves & didn't try to " Impose " their thoughts & views on you & others. The sling shot is great when you understand that it is not a car, it is a three wheeled motorcycle. About 130 is where I’ve been, so this renter must have put a limiter on the car. It’s 1700 pounds and has nearly 180 hp.

Not defending the Slingshot. But it's hard to drive a permanent convertible or ride a bike in the rain and complain about that in your review of the vehicle.
I've been caught in really heavy rain on my bike and I don't hold that against the bike.
The rental company probably put a limiter on your unit to prevent idiots from killing themselves in something they are not used to driving.
For the price of these, you could have 8 NA Miatas. Polaris slingshot is different, but about the dumbest thing with an engine. "you always need a zero" frikin priceless!

It's a First-gen Smart Fortwo, relatively powerful (for a Smart car), with waterproof interior, no roof or windshield, and horizontal bars for doors so you don't fall out.
rather than driving a slingshot, a KTM X-bow is way funnier ! and it handles pretty well
my "rock bottom" was a four hour motorcycle ride through a blizzard.
That sounds pretty shitty. Mine would probably be an hour ride in torrential downpour and 20+ mph winds on a dirtbike, then sitting and waiting for a few hours(while soaked) for dad to bring the trailer as he made us pull off. Apparently there was a tree down on his way back, and he had to get a heavy ass ttr 225 up and over that. It was needlessly risky for him to go and try to be a hero alone like that, had I known what he was going to encounter, I would have gone with him.

I road tripped in one from Houston to Austin. It was 100 degrees in Texas and it was fun to drive. It's a very easy to shift and drive. It made me fall in love with manual transmission. The Bluetooth stereo will increase in volume as the road noise increases. Basically, like a big go cart. It doesn't feel like it's so powerful that it can get out of hand. FYI, the cops will mess with you a lot in it, even though the slingshot is not really that fast. My friend got pulled over when the rear tire spun and peeled out on a hill. You have to have a helmet or you will get smoked by rocks in the face.

The Slingshot is like a motorcycle, but without the fun, power or speed. It's crossed with a car, but without the comfort, handling or practicality. Technically, its a tricycle... that even a kid wouldnt like.
A Polaris slingshot runs over 85 mph. I just sold mine and it would cruise 85 easy.

One of my closest friends has a custom Slingshot X (driven by Tanner Faust) that’s turbocharged and makes 454 horsepower. We took it 30 minutes on the freeway to San Francisco with nothing covering our face and I lost my sunglasses. So to everyone in the comments, it’s not a terrible car to drive around the city in low speeds, it’s a terrible car to drive in high speeds. Also we’ve hit 104 wearing ski masks so it’s not that slow.
I had a 5 speed manual 2 door Cobalt. It was a very reliable car and good on gas. Good motor for this Polaris but I think the slingshot is very over priced just like those Spyders

My uncle had a Slingshot. That didn't last very long. He had his fun with it and then traded it in about 2 months later

I didn't realise how small the car community was until I started working on repairing my own vehicles, and always ended up on one of four channels. Samcrac, Doug Demuro, VINwiki, and Mighty Car Mods.
I'd say that has much more to do with RUclips algorithms creating popularity. Most car people just aren't connected enough to make consistent RUclips content. I actually wish RUclips would suggest more than the 4 channels you mentioned.

I ride a motorbike day in day out and even in rain I've got a smile ear to ear the polaris sling shot is horrible it for some one who wants a motorbike but doesn't want that danger that comes with it and wants a steering wheel
This review is quite old and Polaris has upped their game by introducing their newly designed and re-engined Slingshot. They added a fantastic electronic package, a 203 HP Polaris engine witha 5 speed or automatic transmission. Top speed is faster than you might want to go …….. at 125 MPH. I bought mine a few weeks ago and am on a cross country 10,000 mile ride. Wonderful experience so far and at 73 years old, it is my choice instead of a motorcycle.
If you cannot ride anymore, or never rode and want the experience of a motorcycle, the Slingshot is something you may want to consider. BTW: When it comes to a review on a motorcycle or Autocycle never listen to a person that reviews it like it was a car. If the weather was better the review would have been better. It is not a baseline car, or a “zero” car because it isn’t a car. And if you are daring enough to ride it in a tropical downpour, then you will get wet…. Just like any other expensive open vehicle like a tour bike or convertible with the top stuck down. Contrary to the reviewer, it is a great vehicle for a long crosscountry ride…..I wouldn’t exactly call the 5 hour crosstown trek the reviewer went on a cross country. I drive farther than that just for ice cream.
Took a motorcycle trip from mid Missouri to Florida keys then hit the Redwood national forest taking the coastline all the way. Took Hwy 70 back through Colorado. Will be thinking of this trip for the rest of my life.

Tavarish 5th gear is over drive gear sad to say you had a bad experience with the slingshot. If you stay in 4th you can get up to speed pretty quick 1 through 4 esp with removing the factory lag in the system with a pedal max. If I bring mine to FL hopefully you drive and have a better experience. No it won't beat your Lambo or Bentley to 0-60. lol 110 is easily to reach but going to 5th brings your speed down.
Those things suck. The Slingshot is built here in North Alabama, and they constantly clog up the backroads off 565. Almost as much as the spandex clad cyclists.
