- This is my official move in vlog where I moved to London and share my empty london apartment tour! I have just arrived in London and am getting this video up in record time so I can start sharing this next chapter with you! Hope you all are as excited as I am for this new Living Abroad Diaries series!

Congrats on the new apartment in London stay safe and safe travels and when you get a chance please try the Restaurant the laughing halibut it has the best fish and chip that I ever had when I visited London when I went on a high school graduation trip.

My name is Jamia Haynes, and I am a 1st year Ph.D. student in the Department of Health Behavior at The University of Alabama at Birmingham Ryals School of Public Health. As a public health practitioner and doctoral student, it has always been my goal to work/study abroad. In 2018, I graduated from The University of Alabama at Birmingham with my BS in Public Health with a concentration in Global Health and a minor in Medical Sociology. During my time at UAB, I was taught by outstanding and profound professors who shifted my mind on public health in the national and international sectors. In addition, I was educated on the significance of public health, locally and globally. This inspired me to be the change worldwide; it sparked innovation, increased my knowledge on developing sustainable approaches for communities (locally and internationally), and taught me the importance of community engagement. I hope to be the change worldwide. With your donations, I will study population health in the United Kingdom. Educationally, I would be able to learn about public health systems by meeting with community experts and healthcare organizations, meeting with community-based partners in both Aberystwyth and London to learn about public health issues facing the United Kingdom (rural vs. urban), and learn about historic and modern public health issues in the United Kingdom (London Fog, HIV/AIDS, drug use/misuse, health inequalities). Welcome to London, Katie! It's a big beautiful city, even though most days are very cloudy 😅 I feel like it can take a while (a couple of months) to adapt to everything. I've moved 1 year ago, and still so amazed by this city, and this country, everyday. Wishing you all the luck and see you around! 🍀🇬🇧

@@maisiem.6053 It's a beautiful city where there is always something different to do. And that's really great! It is an expensive city, but the wages are quite good and that's definitely why people move here. Living alone can be very expensive but if you share house with another person, it will be easier. There are many rooms to rent as well if you'd like to house share. Best of luck!!

Katie I am beyond excited for you congrats!! I've been with you since your college years and the your Masters, wow can't believe you're done went by real fast. So proud of all you have accomplished in your studies and working on yourself and your mental health, because without that the rest isn't really as enjoyable. I'm a little biased since I'm a therapist. But I really admire your courage in going after what you want and prioritizing your health to where you feel comfortable in your own skin. And the different places and countries you took on during this path, not easy. It required starting in New countries learning different languages I am truly impressed I don't know if I could of done it being away from family months at a time and the culture shock although I'm sure very exhilarating. Take it ALL IN girl and Enjoy!!!

Hi Katie, welcome to London, we too are based in London but left to live our nomad life literally one year earlier around the time you arrived in London, And as a happenstance, we actually moved to Barcelona about the time you left, so looks like we are following you haha. Not to mention, we too visited London (Whitechapel) for a month back in March 2022, so cold and windy. How did you find this London studio/1 bedroom apartment? Airbnb? It looks exceptionally clean and uncharacteristically tastefully decorated, very very very hard to find.
We are going back again for two months next March and April 2023, but only because we have to hahah U.K. is not our cup of houmous. :-) We are now back again in Barcelona, and loving it! We'll escape the Catalonya winter down to Madeira for four months before getting ready to get damp again for a couple of months in London 2023. LUCKILY we'll come back again to Spain, but this time Valencia for three months. Best of luck with your german studies and in your new position. Saludos, Anki

Hi Katie, thanks for the vlog ❤ I always travel between Europe and the U.S myself... and I'm REALLY wondering how you could pack for a "move" with such a small suitcase? How on earth could you fit all the apartment/kitchen tools that you showed in the previous haul? Like all your kitchen miscellaneous things and your board games. Did you ship another suitcase separately? (I'm asking for advise as a world traveler myself 😊)
Hi Sophie, thank you for the comment! Full disclosure, I unfortunately wasn’t able to fit everything from that haul in my suitcases this time around. 😭 I think it will take me a few suitcases/trips to get everything over (especially the tableware and heavier items) but for this trip, I focused on bringing clothes and some necessities that I really wanted to have (I managed to bring one of my favorite pans for the kitchen hehe!). For this trip I only brought one large and one small suitcase but hopefully I’ll get the rest of my stuff brought over soon! 🥰
