Planning to make the trip for the first time this year. How is parking there? Gotta show up a couple days early to get a halfway decent spot? Asking because we have a 28ft trailer and with the track being on a mountain I'd imagine the parking situation isn't the greatest for trailers.
I wouldn't recommend bringing your trailer, there's no camping at the track and everyone has to pack in and pack out each night. It's honestly a shit show, you have to line up either super early in the morning or drop a vehicle off in line the night before just to get a spot to park at the track, it's very limited space and they only let so many vehicles in. When I went I dropped my van off in line at night, then rode my e-bike back to my hotel for the night, then got up super early and rode back to my van in the morning.
Did you rejet for the altitude? Sounds a little choked up. Good riding dude, GoPro does no justice for how rough and gnarly the track is. So hard to ride fast haha
I tried to but it still just never ran right. It was good for 90% of the throttle range, but for some reason right near the midrange it just blubbered around a bit and I could never get it fixed. Unfortunately the yamaha guys at the race were no help at all, they just wanted to remap all the four stroke guys bikes haha.
Your C Class is like our Wisconsin B Class. You had such a narrow powerband with your jetting being off. Nice job letting that 250 flow the whole race. Do you have the correct jetting now for this elevation etc?
Ya our class system in CA is a little bit of a joke for sure. I haven't been back to this race yet but I'm hoping to next year, still not sure exactly what I'm going to do about the jetting though and unfortunately Yamaha track support didn't really want to help me with it.
@@485Josh if you'd like I have plenty of notes for my 2006 YZ. You'll need more than just the right main jet obviously to run right at that elevation. I can get u real close with the clip position, needle, etc. You'll just have to adjust for the temperature for that day. And it's not that your classes are a joke IMO. We only get to ride from Mid April to the end of Oct. Then the ground is frozen and there's 1 indoor facility but it's a 6 hour drive. We do however have amazing studded tires for frozen lakes but even with that the window for safe ice is very short. You guys get so much more seat time and I'm jealous.
@@fugginrambo Thanks for the heads up, if I end up going with this bike again I'll definitely be asking for those notes haha. The problem with our classes, especially at national level events, is that everyone stays down as long as possible. What you end up with is C class going fast and B class going pro speeds, which makes A class almost pointless. There isn't a very good system for forcing people up in a timely manner.
If you can, practice starts on a concrete pad. Prior to this race I had never even seen one before and I made life tough for myself with terrible starts. Also, if you're running a two stroke like I am make sure you bring the correct jets, the race is around 9k feet in elevation.
@@maxroby8912 No way that's awesome, congrats! I'm not going to make it this year because Mammoth conflicts with Big Hill Jam unfortunately. I highly recommend leaving your pit vehicle lined up outside the track the night before practice day and your race day, then just getting up early and riding a bike or something there in the morning before they open the gate. Parking is the biggest shit show I've ever seen and this will at lease get you a spot inside.
@@485Josh dang maybe next year but thanks for the advice. My brother has qualified a few times and him and my dad usually just get up at 3am and drive down there but that might be a better idea
@@485Josh right on. Wasnt sure how that worked with the 2 stroke vs 4 stroke. I thought maybe they would let 125s in the 250 class, and 250s in the 450 class. Sick riding either way!

No, this is a 250.
