Spirits or ghosts have a tricky propensity to evade detection when in their presence, we humans openly challenge their existence. That's why Utt failed to detect Cik Pon just now.
My suggestion is to install an infra red camera in the studio & record that prop for several dark nights. Sorry, Wayne if the result comes out positive, too near for your comfort!!! Who knows, Cik Pon could be a regular live audience of Tales From Incredible Tales episodes!

a toyol is an imp… its job is just to steal money from others.
my grandma used to tell us of how to deal with toyols, there is a blanket we Malay called it ‘Tampung Seribu’, which it was made from lots of square small pacthes, stitched together to form n turn into a blanket… so when a Toyol come to the house, and when they see the blanket, they will started to counts those patches one by one, and at some point they will lost counts n they will start all over again. they’ll count until it reaches the Fajr/Subuh prayer time, they’ll hear the call of the Prayer (Azan) n they will just quickly get out n try to go home as fast as possible… so, we will always have this ‘Tampung Seribu’ blanket at home always…

from what I gather from the native ppl and the older kampong ppl.
the imps arn't child human souls. they are literally plucked out from their dimension using black magic or witchcraft or similar methods.
unlike kmt which are human souls who still kids because of what ever reason like bad karma.
or accidents like miscarriage.
that terminated their soul development into human adult forms with the human flesh body.
and with the belief of reincarnation as per mentioned when they are attracted to humans who have made a human form. hence some humans can sense them and their attachment.
basically in layman terms, humans form the empty vessel for these human child souls to inhibit via the circle of rebirth in the Buddhist way of life.
and yes what Utt is saying there are also both good and bad ways to invoke or approach both types.

One of my relatives back in a day found large ‘tempayan’ (large pot used to fill water or rice) sealed with cement when go fishing..he pick it up because it was so heavy maybe got gold inside he think😂 at home he smash it but nothing inside..at night the monster that escape from it come and attack him unfortunately he died..this is what my mom always tell me when i was a kid.. i think you guys should have a discussion on whether these "ghosts" "entities" "demons" actually are real. why do taoist spirits not possess catholics? or why catholic/christian demons dont posses hindus? or any other mixture? they racist or discriminate is it? or is it all in the person's mind? can a catholic priest exorcise a malay spirit or something?
To make it brief, all these entities (spirits, demons, etc) are as real as you!
But some of them are shape shifters which manifest according to local cultural beliefs & taboos. Traversing dimensions is theirs. And they can possess anyone regardless of religion practice.
Exorcism or spiritual battles cross race lines & these entities communicate with the mind (mind reader?) as they are energies as thoughts are energies. No language barriers.
Whatever we rationalize are limited by time, space & matter. As I comment, some entities are already 'eavesdropping'!!!
