  • The Indian Independence Act, 1947 was formulated by the government of Prime Minister Clement Attlee and the Governor General of India Lord Mountbatten, after representatives of the Indian National Congress, the Muslim League, and the Sikh community came to an agreement with the Viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten of Burma, on what has come to be known as the 3 June Plan or Mountbatten Plan. This plan was the last plan for independence.
Soon after there was a broadcast by the then Viceroy Of India, Lord Mountbatten about events leading to this decision.

Rakhi Upadhyay There was no power struggle... Gandhi offered prime minister post to Jinnah to avoid partition but Jinnah refused it he said we want our seperate homeland & stick to that claim...There was no alternative left but to accept partition....& cabinet mission plan was flawed because it gave to much autonomy to the state & it proposed a weak central govt..it divided provinces into 3 groups based on grouping clause along religious line...if it was implemented India would have broken into 100 parts...& there would have been a weak fragmented india...so, A Pakistan is far better than fragmentation of whole India...

Gandhi offered prime minister post to Jinnah to avoid partition but Jinnah refused it by saying we want seperate homeland of ours & stick to that claim...so, there was no alternative left but to accept partition....& cabinet mission plan of 1946 was also flawed...it gives too much power to the state...it gives autonomy to the state...& this plan proposed a weak central govt...which means a loosely federated state.....& it divided provinces into 3 groups based on grouping clause along religious line....if this plan was implemented India would have been broken into 100 small parts....thats why Congress fist supported the plan but when they know the true motive behind the plan they withdrew from it...So, a small Pakistan is far better than a weak fragmented india.....

Partition was idiotic, on part of all of the leaders, a decision for power rather than for people.

@Technical Yuvaan Soni Mental hi nahin, Jinnah kaminah tha. If he thought Hindus and Muslims are two nations why did Muslims invade India? Why did Muslims live in India for centuries? Why did Junagadh which was Hindu majority acceded into Pakistan and was accepted. Why was Jinnah asking Hindu majority state of Hyderbad to be in Muslim rule. How dishonest was he?
