You asked; "What exactly is it we imagine when we imagine no religion?" for me, my vision is of not being divided because of religion. In my 55 years I have yet to find much unity between people off different faiths when you start to question their beliefs. And then you come to wanting to legislate laws based on religious dogma. I imagine a world where religion plays no part in lawmaking, where morality isn't only in the realm of the religious. In fact, the one comment I hear the most, and is the one I find the most offensive is when people claim you can only be a moral person if you have "faith". That is simply not true. Does that help answer the questions?

If you have no god then there really is no morality (because there is no authority to judge right or wrong) so therefore you can't be moral. Any "morality" you come up with is just that a made up thing that doesn't have any real force or meaning in the universe. Without god we are just a random accident of physics that's all.
World without no religion:
No religion discrimination
No cast discrimination
Allowance to inter cast or inter religion marriage by society cuz there will be no religion
No terror attacks.

You know what you get when people don't create religious themed art, architecture and traditions?
They create other culturally rich art, architecture and traditions.
The religious didn't invent empathy, morals, order, or human culture.
Religion is just a piece on the tapestry of human culture.
Non-religious art, achitecture and traditions are everywhere and they can be just as amazing.
No imagination or hypocrisy is required to see it.
One just need to suspend the confirmation bias for a while and look around.
Humanity should be the only religion in every region!
Actually RELIGION was made to group people together and anyone came and made worlds 1st religion with it's ideologies,beliefs and stuffs and have thought of that this Religion will be followed by every person born on earth but twist is everywhere not all people have same ideologies and hence many other people came time to time and made their own separate religion with different ideologies and grouping their community and then one community didn't like the other one hence resulted in a clash. Which we see till now. So to overcome with this problem we need to Focus on HUMANISM(not any religion or Dharama):- which means to see every people irrespective of Gender,Cast,Color,race,etc as human,which means HUMAN for HUMANS and GOD is everywhere which is OMNIPOTENT,OMNISCIENT,IMMORTAL,SHAPELESS,BIRTHLESS,GENDERLESS etc.. and doesnt need any monuments or place to worship,it can be worship anywhere with true heart. Life will be so good if humanity started help each other in every field. If we do this then the cities and invention u see in SCIENCE FICTION MOVIES will be a REALITY.❤

When I see religion in practice, one blatant and obvious common denominator is dogmatic fervour. But in all these TED talks not once do I ever hear them talk about this. They talk about the trappings of religion, customs, rituals, yoga, art and architecture and various creative by-products but never about dogmatic belief itself and it's effects on others. Something that impacts many if not most of us on a regular basis. All I hear is silence. Same with this woman too, won't talk about religion and it's rigid dogma.

Don't need to, I've seen the effects of a lack of faith on the streets. Not a pretty sight.

She doesn't really make a point.... what would a world look like without religion? All she keeps talking about it human need, human need for what about religion? She also keeps saying "we" when talking about people's opinions instead of saying "some people" because realistically, you cant assume everyone agrees with you. I feel like this talk was poorly prepared over all... but that's just my two cents.

I understand what she is saying. There is a constant war going on in middle east asia and constant conflicts happening around the world because of religion. She is trying to make the world a safer place by explaining why we have religion so we will be more likely to be curious instead of frustrated when someone has a different belief than our own. By saying that religion meets our human needs instead of it being a choice, it shows that when we partake in religious activities we aren't purposefully being rebellious. We are just being human. So, next time you see someone doing a religious activity you don't understand please don't ridicule them. Instead, understand that they are human and they are meeting a human need.
It would probably be really tedious to pull apart humanity from religion. So, to keep the attention of the audience she might have decided to keep it simple. There might not be any studies on the topic yet, but she decided that her philosophy was important enough to share to try and make our world a safer one.

This is one of the least informative or useful TED Talks I've ever watched, what was the point of this presentation other than to point out that a large portion of the human race supposedly needs the religion crutch to get through the day.
A point that I'm not convinced of in the least, we're better than that, we only have to realise it, we can thrive without mythology and tortured mental gymnastics attempting to create meaning where there is none.
Religion is a about belief in one claim or another, none having a solid foundation in reality, surely we can collectively do a system update of sorts, one where we are in line with reality, where we base our decisions on reason and science, I'd much prefer knowing what's true over religious peoples unfounded beLIEfs.

I find this Ted Talk to be more inclined on the religious part and not addressing the overall values of the other part. But there's huge difference between RELIGION and ATHEISM and HUMANISM

Humanity is the need of the hour but not any organized religion.
What does "need of the hour" mean? I do like humanitarian work! And, we could use more helpful people making a positive difference in the world.

Catholic who always believed in karma. What goes around comes around is just another way of saying you'll reap what you sew.
So the people killed and displaced in earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, droughts and the like are just getting their karma? Cancer? Hunger? Abuse? And those of us fortunate enough to live comfortably, enjoying good health and abundance are also getting what is due us?

my sister won’t talk to me or let me visit her because i don’t believe in any religion. this started this year, 2024. no explanation other than that. she 81 and im 77. never anything like this before. how ever her husband said that there conservatives and they live in florida. the trump cult?? i just don’t know.
This was just strange.
so deeply unconvincing that it's solidified an opinion in me that religion is at best completely pointless in a modern world. Sound more like she's trying to convince herself than anyone else.
I could imagine a world where people in the middle east aren't bombing each other over land because of religious bases.

“it’s easy if you try”
you really have no real explanation of why humanity "needs" religion....none of the example or arguments correlate.. saying to not believe and actually not believing are two different things, even if the person is saying that he/she doesn't believe in karma but still is acting in the ways that reflect his/her believes shows that consciously he/she is making the choice to believe in it. it's like I am telling my friends I believe pizza is unhealthy but still have pizza at home!! so saying something and actually doing it are two different things.

I believe too that she wasn't able to clearly convey her message clearly, what I understood however is that religion has allowed large populations a common set of understandings about how society should function and what goals everyone should persue in the belief system that has allowed huge human collaboration to build human projects which wouldn't have been possible if all the people participating in the project didn't shared same beliefs. Secondly, the religious rituals have less to do with the religion itself and more to do with humans need of social interaction and rituals provide a reason for just that. Belief helps individual to cope and overcome obstacles or in some cases even restrict them.

Religion isn,t a topic about supernatural.
An example:
Islam religion. ....
Islam means peace and religion means life style.
Means peace life style. And the source to know about is Al- Quran.

A true Muslim never kills an other person.Islam doesn't support it. How kills people doesn't belongs in Islam. Cause Islam means peace!
our creator gave us the privallevege to think and do. Which way you go its upto you.

I simply reject all discriminatory thoughts and islam does that pretty much although we cannot describe that primitive thing as a thought.

Thanks you are a Muslim. I follow my Allah’s advice .There does not have a single topic which can turn a person against humanity.
Allah told us to think before we do, how should we think which way we have to think it is given in Quran. For example:We learn how to be a patience person from Sura”Ibrahim” and many more.
I suggest you not to think partially and think Islam in basis of some people actions.
And I did no tell that I am more knowledgeable then you. I simply show you a helping hand as a friend as a brother.
