I remember learning about Candlemass in a book I checked out from my local library that was basically an encyclopedia full of metal bands. The moment I came across the mentions of "operatic vocals", I was immediately curious and searched them up on RUclips. Then I heard Well of Souls. The sound of Messiah's vibrato at the beginning got me instantly addicted to the band as a whole and I need more. I just got done spending about 2 hours learning a handful of the songs on bass. Lief Edling is definitely a favorite of mine among bass players. I hope to one day start a doom metal band where I can do both bass and vocals with the inspirations of Johan Längqvist, Messiah Marcolin and Leif Edling with lyrics that showcase my love for creepypastas, maybe some SCPs, and various other nerdy things that can work for a doom metal sound.
i had known about candlemass just by their name for years but when i attended my first ever music festival this year, i was lured to their stage and in all honesty their show was the best experience i had there. and that's saying a lot when one of my favorite bands ever, iron maiden, was playing there as well. candlemass was just simply so magical, the singer's voice and the sound of their music overall, their stage presence.. i loved it to bits. been a fan ever since.
